Knight Wolf - Things Went Well...

When you get back to your workshop and start to strip down the armor, you bask in the success of your first night out.  All the successes, the minor failures, and new ideas cascade through your mind on how you can change things.  But one question does hit your mind as you start to review and tinker; is it battle ready?  Should it be?

[OOC] Fill me in on your next steps.

Knight Wolf - Things Went Well...

Stepping off the arrival platform, Knight Wolf headed for the armor rack and had the suit removed and stored on it.  Dean started the diagnostic and basic repair systems before heading out.  He'd let that work while he took a shower.  Despite the onboard environmental system, he still got a bit sweaty in there.

A little bit later, significantly cleaner and refreshed, Dean stopped in the small kitchen to grab some food and drink before heading to the control room.  Plopping himself down in the main chair, he started bringing up multiple screens.  Summarizing the outing from the suit data, bringing up any police data from the incidents he was involved in as well as any of incident reports throughout the city.  He wanted to analyze the data as well as keep abreast of what else was going on.  In addition, he needed to update his files on any 'super' individuals.

As you playback information/data from the suit, you do have a few gaps on in the collection.  It isn't on suit information, but the collections from radio or network information.  They are not large, and seemed to correlate with the quantity of information being ingested at the time, but they are there.

As you monitor the suit's readings and watch the playback, the news talks about the incidents you were at this evening.  The arrest of the robber is standard news, but the SUV that seems to have blown all four tires and taken damage to the undercarriage is different.  The suspects also were heard complaining about "their ears", when one of the TV crews was able to get close.

The incident at Northerly Island is talked about in detail.  Interceptor-X and Mindstrike stopped a robbery at The Museum of Science and Industry.  They recovered all of the items taken.  Two before unknown 'super thieves' were taken into custody; Ghost and Diablo (with Diablo remanded to ATCPE).  Although there was a boat damaged and some of the trails disrupted, there were no serious injuries.

Reviewing the data, he frowned at the data gaps.  True, they were minor and effectively irrelevant.  But they were clear indication of a flaw in the suit; he needed to address it.  He made a mental note to work on the next generation of data storage medium; he'd try getting to that tomorrow perhaps.

The rest of the suit data matched up and worked within expected tolerance levels.  Even the new anti-grav system worked better than expected, even if he only used it on the lower settings.  All in all, he was quite pleased.  He rated the suit as combat ready as he could make it, baring the data storage flaw, without significant redesigns.  It wasn't made to go toe-to-toe punching someone but for how he intended to apply it in a tactical setting, it should be quite solid.

The robbery at the museum peaked his curiosity.  Not that it covered everything but is was the Science and Industry Museum.  He'd made more than a few significant donations to the place, through his corporation cut out of course.  But it was a place that he felt a certain amount of kinship with.  He tapped his fingers idly against his chin, debating taking a look for himself later on.  Something to think on.

For now, he collected data on Interceptor-X and Mindstrike to update the files as well as the two potential criminals, Ghost and Diablo.

[OOC]You would have contacts at MSI.  They would be in the foundation office and any that may have been to 'donor parties'.  You should have cards or something...somewhere.

As to information on Interceptor-X and Mindstrike, I'll need a few questions.  One is in the public eye and more is known about Midstrike than Interceptor-X.  I'll parse information that I can.

Ghost and Diablo are thieves and have never been in any big fights or events that you can find on the Internet.  There are a few police drawings from robberies in Europe that do match Diablo (along with descriptions and 'the use of fire').

So much to do...

Dean brought up multiple screens of various data on the main panels.  He needed to do some financial work to keep the whole multifaceted corporate umbrella and all that going.  On another, he brought up the specs for the suit; he had some redesigns in mind, though they were mostly fairly minor.  On a third, Dean started a connection to start pulling some research data.

The screens start flipping by.

Mindstrike is a public hero, without a alter ego.  Her real name is Rei Rousseau and is the Vice President of Public Relations for Rousseau North America.  She has spent a lot of time in France and America.  From the public reports, she has psychic abilities and has exhibited a forcefield, flight, some type of energy blast and is proficient in martial arts.  She has recently returned to Chicago after time away in France.

Interceptor-X has been in Chicago a few years, is a speedster, and seems to be a little bit of a jokester (last year, when Chicago died the river green for St. Patrick's Day, he put riding blankets that said 'kiss me, I'm Irish' on the Art Institute lions and used window paint on The Bean to write 'Never iron a four leaf clover as you don't want to press your luck' and then stood for pictures).  He seems to be armored.  Aside from superspeed, he has exhibited leaping and the ability to take a multiple shots from assault weapons.

There is little publicly known about Ghost or Diablo.

[OOC]Information greater than this will need to be rolled for.  To get information on Ghost and Diablo, it will be 12 OV/RV (where do you start with super villains?).  Interceptor-X is like looking into Ghost/Diablo.  The information you get from researching any of the three will be limited.  There is more public information about Mindstrike (Ms. Rousseau) and the company, I just need a question to answer.

Interceptor-X is akin to the Flash (although not an omega level hero).

She can manifest telekinetic blades about a meter long that extend from her hands but has never used them on living targets on video or according to any witnesses. She is a native of France from Paris and came to Chicago when Rousseau International opened the North American branch in Chicago. Dean drank the information in even as he furthered his own searches.  He filed it all away for his own use at a later time.  Flipping to another window, he made a few notes for his suit as an idea came to him.  On another, he brought up everything he had on the Museum; he'd been there more than a few times and had compiled quite a bit there.

Multitasking was so ineffient.  He really needed to get the AI assistance program done.

He'd make do for now. Hitting a few keys, he began the fabrication of parts he'd need for some of the suit changes.  A quick glance at the clock gave he a rough idea of how much time he had.  He'd put in a few more hours of financial work, mostly to get it out of the way for the next couple weeks.

Once he was done, he had a little field trip to take.

OOC:
Thanks Mindstrike!

Thank you for any clarifications.  I read through and grabbed things quickly, and I can/do make mistakes.

The public data for Mindstrike fills in a few holes and gives you the picture of an attractive, young, business woman.  Although not a 'party person', pictures of he and her sister from a few major parties in Chicago are found.

Rubbing his chin absently, he figured he'd put it off long enough.  A quick excursion and maybe he could get some sleep in a few hours.  Decision made, he stood up and headed to the rack holding the suit.  While the machines worked to fit the pieces around him, he started up the transporter, inputting the coordinates.

Knight Wolf - Things Went Well...

Active stealth systems activated, Knight materialized in an unused room within MSI.  (It was mildly amusing that he could have gained access as Dean almost certainly, though it would have led to questions he most certainly did not want answered.)  He knew this place well.  More than a few tours and something of a refuge in his childhood, MSI mattered to him.  It was more than just a respect of what came before; this was a place honoring technology, it's advances and it's costs.  Knight decided that sleeping in a bit tomorrow was more than worth the trip to double check nothing was missed.

It didn't take long for him to tap into the security system.  He wasn't worried about the cameras, though his cautious and thorough nature prevailed upon him to handle those as well, but it was the fastest way to get a full update on the robbery here as well as any follow up work being done on it.  He made a mental note to work on the interface system when he had a moment (it was a rather long list in all honesty) to speed this kind of process up in the future.

He is able to see the night security come and go as he works with the security system.  They are making a few rounds and walk by the front desk area many times, but do not notice the invisible Knight Wolf.  The system is a off-the-shelf system, albeit larger than normal with so many cameras and severs.  Covering his tracks isn't an issue.

He is able to find the video from the day of the robbery and download it.  This does cover the few hallway cameras that recorded Interceptor-X and Mindstrike coming and going.

From simple observation during your walk-around, aside from memories, nothing new is seen.

[OOC]
The main reception area has everything you would need for access and is in the open, but because of the number of machines and locations, finding access in a out of plain sight location is easy.  You can walk the galleries of the main atrium without opening any gates or doors.  If you are going to go behind any secured areas, let me know.

Once per adventure, the Character may invoke the Advantage and receive either -1 Column Shift to an opponent’s OV/RV or +1 Column Shift to his own OV/RV when making an Action Check. The Player may choose which of these bonuses to utilize and when to invoke the Luck Advantage.
Example: If a Player decided to invoke Luck while his lucky Character was attacking an opponent in hand-to-hand combat, the Character’s target would receive a -1 Column Shift modifier to his OV/RV for that attack. Conversely, if the lucky Character were defending against an attack, he could receive +1 Column Shift to his OV/RV for the defense.]

Thank you for the luck listing.

The role was not for teleportation, or any action.  Unless you have a specific area you would want specifically, I'll role play your teleport.

As you scan, you have to do a double take a few times, but right on time (right about the time you figured based on the events), a few doors opened without anybody stepping through and you catch site of a bag on the floor for a second and then it is gone.  There are no alarms from the same alarms system for that time.  There is a log of an outside door opening under key, but the camera at that door showed nothing.  The same door is triggered maybe 30 minutes late in the same fashion.

Closing the data down and storing it for later, he decided he needed a bit more details or at least access to a system that had more information than just camera access.  Abandoning his stationary position, he started to head deeper in.  He'd use the teleport to hop past any door or gate; no need for the cameras to see them open.  Once inside, he would have to find out what was taken and possibly why.  The items had to have been returned since the were recovered; they just weren't in their displays currently.

MSI's back halls and storage rooms are much the maze.  There are door numbers, but few maps or guides.  After a time, maybe more than you want, you find a area of store rooms.  The windows in the doors and few signs help with some of the 'hide and seek' and you eventually find the area that you saw on the camera.  You 'pop' into a room full of Nazi artifacts, documents and work spaces.

There are people walking the halls, but there are not many.  Most are security, but there are few in street clothes and white gloves.

You start to search the room.  It is dusty.  You find shelfs of items; boxes and boxes of documents in acid-free envelopes, pictures, a lot of clothing (in protective bags), maps, a study space with a illumination top that has a few documents laid out (they may be doing a repair?  cleaning?), a few helmets, a few hats, a few weapons (disabled), and a hand full of mannequins (currently naked).  There are cabinets with documents, electronic media, and supplies (cleaning, office, etc.).  The room is large; a classroom size. The shelving units only go 6' or so.  The room has an independent HV/AC unit and humidity controller.

You find two things of interest:
1. A document that lists all the items that CPD currently has in their possession as evidence.  It makes guarantees to handling and return.  It invites a 'museum representative' to review what they are doing and supervise handling.  All items will be returned upon the finish of the documentation process.
2. An empty spot on a shelf where somebody has left a big yellow sticky that says Where is the desk eagle?  The good Dienstleiter Brikner is upset it is missing!!

There are no computers in this room, but you do find a network cable run along some shelves to the central 'work area'  that has nothing plugged in to it.  It does stop rather high on a shelf unit.

Knight Wolf - Things Went Well...

Leads exhausted, and he was a bit tired himself to be honest, it was time to call it on this outing.  Maybe some other day he'd sneak into the police department, he thought with a quiet chuckle.  Still, he should at least extend something of an olive branch.

Activating the teleport, he waited a few moments before he reappeared back on the pad.  He went through the disarming routing and headed for the main computer.  He took a few minutes to do a little digging, seeing which officer and analyst would be assigned to the case.  Taking a few extra minutes to reroute some communication to ensure any messages couldn't be tracked was simply common sense.

quote:
Attention: Officer <insert name here>
Re: Offer of Assistance

Good evening.  I would like to offer some private assistance, very off the record, to the department.  I am not asking for payment or anything of the sort.  I simply wish to assist, without any bureaucratic entanglements, officers of this city.  Below I am attaching some images of some assistance I have already provided this evening.

<will attach several images, scrubbed of incriminating details about me or my tech, of the evening events.  NOT the museum.>

I also read up on the theft at the museum.  I happen to be an expert in multiple fields.  If you would be amenable, I would be happy to offer said expertise and a new perspective.  If you like, this method of communication will suffice.  I can also provide a faster method as well.  If not, I wish you the best of luck in your investigation.  I will continue to offer my quiet assistance as I can either way.

Respectfully,
Knight Wolf

Signing off, a yawn escaped him.  It was late and it had been a busy day.  For now, it was time to sleep.  Standing, he headed off to get some.

You have no issues leaving undetected.

A Detective Mia Dello was assigned to the investigation of the theft.  She is run out of the southern district not far from MSI.  She is a 15 year veteran and has been a detective for 4 years working mostly on theft cases (she has a good track record).  In and out of the CPD systems is not an issue for you currently.

In your digging, you find that they are almost done with the processing of the items and did have support from MSI.  MSI also delivered translations of documents and their documentation on the articles.

The odd thing you note, is a security guard comes by and sticks around the door for a while (a few minutes).  He seems to listen in a little (or tries) and leaves.  You do not catch his name tag (on a lanyard with multiple cards...black hair, beard, average height).

Currently, the CPD has the inventory done for the items taken.  The theft is currently being looked at as alone incident by Ghost and Diablo.  Ghost is being held downtown and Diablo was given into ATCPE custody (current location unknown).  There is a full description of the events post their leaving MSI.  The events within MSI is being put together yet (reports, video, interviews).  A rough timeline is in the file.

When you run the face of the man against the CPD database, using their system which is not advanced, you do not get a hit higher that 60%.

The information from CPD on the stolen items is a mix of their notes, MSI's provided information and pictures, and comments from the field.  You have access to all the details of the items stolen that CPD has.

A review of the items could yield something.  It would require a roll.  Read up on Detective - Clue Analysis on page 111 for how it works best.  You're OV would be a 9-10 for a quick review (there is a lot of information here, different items, and you are going from images and their observations).  Time will reduce the OV.

CPD.  Mostly to speed up any related research I might do in the future.

I would be fine with taking more time.  Prefer to go for the type C/full clues.

14:08, Today: Knight Wolf rolled 10 using 2d10 ((1,9)).

Not sure if Sharp eye would lower my target to help me succeed.  Think that's RV?

[OOC]
You slow down your review of the documents and information, but don't find anything.  You feel that it is there, but you just are missing it.  You can taste it.  This research took approximately two hours.

Plotting out what to do with the CPD network and how best to put a 'backdoor' in place, you figure if you write some code and gain access to their mini (yep...they are still running an old mini...which looks to be the weakest link), you could be done in about 2-3 hours.

As you work through the facial recognition, you remember that CPD does work with SmartSearch for some of their technology needs (facial recognition, camera software).

Knight Wolf - Things Went Well...

Dean scowled, frustrated.  It was right there, he knew it.  It just continued to elude him.  However, he wasn't about to give up.  He started a couple different corollary searches to try connecting the information to other possibilities.  The two criminals were the focus of one such search; it was a fair bet this wasn't the first crime the two had perpetrated.  Possibly with the same subject mater.  The second search was about related thefts.  It seemed the two had attempted to steal the material for fun which meant a backer of some kind.  Or perhaps a string of similar robberies.  And of course he kept the search for the mystery guard going...

OOC:

So doing what stated in the IC part.  Searching for crimes the two have done.  then searching for other similar thefts.  Compared and connect the data hopefully.

Will table the backdoor until later/once this is done then.  Can at least get it done and do the access part at a later time.

Is that a separate place to search/use?  Will do that as well.

Making a bunch of rolls for you to use as needed.

1:
20:21, Today: Knight Wolf rolled 19 using 2d10 ((9,10)).

2:
20:21, Today: Knight Wolf rolled 8 using 2d10 ((4,4)).
rolled doubles so another roll...
20:21, Today: Knight Wolf rolled 8 using 2d10 ((4,4)).
rolled doubles AGAIN...
20:21, Today: Knight Wolf rolled 11 using 2d10 ((7,4)).
so... 2nd roll is actually a 27?

3:
20:22, Today: Knight Wolf rolled 11 using 2d10 ((3,8)).

You find approximately 10 robberies that you can attribute to Diablo and Ghost.  They seem to be partners.  You either find descriptions that fit, actual pictures of Diable at the scene of the crime, or an modus operandi that fits.  Not all of their thefts match on the items there taken; they have a few thefts that were for money/jewelry only.

You find the following items when reviewing the materials.
- A Dienstleiter Brikner is the writer, receiver or subject of a high number of the documents.
- The number is too high to be a coincidence.
- Dienstleiter Brikner was a highly ranked in the Nazi political party.
- If you have been reading the items in Mindstrikes discovery, you know or can find the same on him personally.
-

Is that a separate place to search/use?  Will do that as well.  I'm not sure what you mean here.

This was referring to the facial recognition thing.

[OOC]
The access to SmartSearch database would be different than accessing the CPD.  The CPD has access to the facial recognition software, but not the database, which is on the SmartSearch side of any security.  You can jump from CPD to SmartSearch, but the security is different.  It will be additional rolls.  SmartSearch manages their intranet gateways from CPD.  From what you can tell, you are looking at advanced (maybe on military grade) security.

Ah, gotcha.  Ok, while I would just do a little test/probe, it likely didn't do squat.

20:21, Today: Knight Wolf rolled 9 using 2d10 ((2,7)).

Where do the maps of the North Sea show/point to?  What is on the maps vs what is 'known' to be there?

Lastly (for now!), going to do a search to try and find a way to contact Mindstike/Rei directly?

20:27, Today: Knight Wolf rolled 13 using 2d10 ((10,3)).

[OOC]
You do a little 'testing' of the defenses and you find they are formidable.  If you had to guess, just short of military grade security (OV 13).  Unless I let you know differently (confirmed military grade security), we are talking about an AI, or you are actively going against another person, you will not raise alarms immediately or cause a problem (just a game note).

You do not have the maps, but know they were there.  If is not known yet if you can get a copy/image of the maps in question.

Ms. Rei Rousseau is Vice President of Public Relation for the Rousseau North America branch of Rousseau International based in Chicago.  You can find the corporate office without any issue.

Knight Wolf - Things Went Well...

The screens flickered as information scrolled by and searches progressed.  He saved things as he went, continuing to expand on his work.  Some turned out to be of minimal use, some he was rebuffed completely.  But more often than not, his work was providing dividends.  Some rather unexpected ones as well.

Getting access to Mindstrike's, or perhaps Ms. Rousseau would be more appropriate, email wasn't that big of a challenge.  He set up the typical protocols to reroute and make the email untraceable before typing a quick message.

quote:
Ms. Rousseau,

First off, let me introduce myself.  I am a somewhat recent, at least publicly, addition to the hero roster in this city.  There was some arrests I participated in, though I did not stick around to be recognized, this evening involving a ruined car and another with a holdup who went running as well as a mugging with additional criminal connections.  The police were informed anonymously of course.  I go by the handle of Knight Wolf.  Unlike yourself, I intend to keep my personal life secret and separate from my hero identity.

Regardless, I noted your conflict with the two thieves that were apprehended after the MSI theft.  I presume you will be digging into said theft.  I have, in my own investigation, come up with some interesting clues.  Perhaps it might be advantageous to compare notes.  I am heading to investigate some new developments presently.  If and when you are available and are interested in continuing this discussion, please contact me and I can provide a more secure method of communication.  I am headed to the harbor now to see what might be found there.

Knight Wolf

Pushing away from the station, he stood and headed over to his armor and got suited up as the teleporter started powering up, targeting the harbor address he found.

I need to know if you are going for the impound; boat or car?  Two different places.
