Jinniyah - It Has Been Many Years...

[OOC]
Facing north, you would see the buildings that make up 'down town'.  The Willis (Sears) Tower being the tallest of all and made of all glass.  To the east is Lake Shore Drive and then the lake itself.  The buildings around the museum are maybe ten stories at max (been a while since I was in that exact area, but that is what I remember).  Moving north or south takes you into a nice green space.

Give me an idea on where you are (roof? side?).

[IC]
In the immediate area, you see a few people on the greens in front of the museum and do see a few people in white jackets.  The 'road' to your right is full of 'cars' moving in both directions.  It is a non-ending stream.

Jinniyah - It Has Been Many Years...

She was on the ground outside the front of museum, to get a close look at the new things all about, although she stayed out of traffic. Walking down to the street area, she circled a flashy parked car, looking it over, wondering what all the buttons and knobs and things inside did before moving on.

She did not initiate conversation with people as she walked by them, but she did look them over, which might be unnerving or insulting to some, or mistaken for interest of another sort by others. She would stop for conversation if someone spoke to her, but otherwise she was walking towards one of the people in white jackets. Were they sheiks? Guards? Police? Untouchables? It was hard to say, so she tried to walk closer to one to see what decorations they might have. It might help tell their level of importance, or perhaps there would be words on them to read that might bring understanding.

(ooc)
Zahrah is still in the immediate area right now, but will, if all goes well, probably walk towards Willis Tower if there are no obstacles. The most powerful people must live there.

As you approach a group of two, with one person wearing the white lab coat, you see it does not match their clothes (which is just pants you see currently).  The coat does have the MSI symbol on the left front breast pocket.  Both people have ID cards hanging from lanyards around their necks.

[OOC]
The main steps are not used since they changed the traffic flow, but they are great.  They lead out into the green space with some 200 yards to the first road.

Some pics for reference of the front steps...

Since the white coat is similar enough to what she is wearing, duplicating what Stephanie had been wearing, there really is no need to approach any further. Zahrah already knows what it is- obviously ritual clothing of the temple she just left.

So instead she will go to the green space and enjoy the feel of the sun and the wind. It had been far too long since she felt either. Perhaps take her shoes off and feel the grass between her feet as well.

After about 30 minutes, she will start walking towards the Willis Tower, wanting to see it more closely.

That should not be a concern- the actual distance between the two is 6.68 miles, so it is well within her allowable radius.
(The standard AP radius is 8 miles, but the AP upper range is 15 miles 800 feet, so she is fine no matter which you choose to use.)

Since she is going as directly towards it as she can, she would mostly be using the lakefront trail, the right most path your map is showing along the water, which is 7.9 miles, since it looks like the most direct path she could walk. That would take a bit over two and a half hours walking, which is certainly doable- her Body is not superhuman, but equals some of the best athletes on earth, so she would not have any problem walking that far or long. And with her extended lifespan, she does not think of that time as anything more than a blip.

No doubt it would actually take much longer for her to get there though, since she is not using a mapping program, but going as straight as she can, which would require some detours and backtracking. And she is not in a rush either, she is free again, and looking and reading things as she goes, taking what she needs to take in. If she has to take six or seven  hours, that is also fine. Stephanie did not give her any commands, so for what she does now she has all the time she needs until called for. Seeing the world of today is a very valuable use of that time, which is another reason to walk, rather than blink herself there. She can see the people, the way they move, how they dress, how they sound, etc.

It comes in as 2 hours and 36 minutes on Google maps. I wonder what the discrepancy is from?

https://www.google.com/maps/di...114!2d41.8788731!3e2

In any case, it does not particularly matter. As noted, she is in no hurry, and is not planning on using any magic to speed the trip. The journey is much more of the point than the destination. The Tower is simply a very recognizable point to walk towards.

I suspect that it was actually the distance, not the time, that prompted the initial concern though, but that should have been adequately answered.

It could be. I use google maps for most uses, but if there are problems at times, mapquest is my second choice. I do not care for apple maps.

Jinniyah - It Has Been Many Years...

[OOC]
1)  The move from MSI to Waverly Island was police following a car (and Diablo in flight), but they did not engage.  All the details on how they slipped out of MIS were not shared.  Intercepter-X didn't get on the scene until they were at Waverly Island.  That is where the 'stalemate' occurred.
2)  I have not problem with 'going on a walkabout'.  Just let me know for sure which way and how?  'Straight as the crow flies' is possible (and maybe the one she would follow logically) to as she is navigating by sight.  It would mean more neighborhoods.  There is a path along Lake Shore...far side by lake.
3)  As to Google, Apple, MapQuest and their different estimates; they all have different base assumptions.  How fast is the average speed of a car in a city environment?  What is the average walking speed of a person?  They will have different 'road knowledge' as there are a few companies that can provided that and I doubt they all use the same one.  We've run into this with park permit providers.  They all have tools to help you with design (how big a parking spot should be to maximize your lot, recommended speed limits, etc.).

Let me know the path of the walk and we'll see what happens.

I did mention the path she was taking, but it probably was lost in the other discussions.

Since she is going as directly towards it as she can, she would mostly be using the lakefront trail, since that seems to be the straightest line to follow.

The lakefront also makes it simpler since it is a clear feature to follow.

As you wander, you find a concrete trail that some others are following.  I curves this way and that way, but takes you under the two road ways used exclusively for cars and you find yourself on the shore of a body of water.  A directional sign says Lake Michigan Trail and points an arrow north labeled 'Downtown'.  An arrow pointing south say '57th Street Beach'.

People are going in both directions; running (not in fear...just running), riding (what you remember is a bicycle...but of a new design), there are parents with children and even a few people fishing along a rock wall off the water.  You even pickup the smell of cooking meat.  The mix of cultures is new to you, not in the presence but in the quantity of each.  It is greater than you remember ever seeing.

You turn north and head to the larger buildings can be seen clearly above the trees.  There are so many and they come in so many colors and shapes.  There is no the domes you are used to see on large buildings and most do not seem to be made of stone.

[OOC]
You can travel north along the Lake Shore from here to downtown.  As you walk, you start to see how people are crossing the roads and where it is safe (there are some bridges, but not everywhere).

Jinniyah - It Has Been Many Years...

It was strange to see so many people running for no apparent reason. She could not see why they would be doing so.
They were not running from anything, and people went in different directions, so they were not going towards something either.
The only commonality was they had vaguely similar types of clothing, in style if not appearance or culture. Perhaps it was a religious devotion?

The bicycles were interesting. She had never ridden one, but was not certain she wanted to. It seemed... unseemly. And inefficient.

The smell of the meat was tantalizing, but she did have to eat. She could, she just did not have to do so.

To avoid trouble, she stayed on paths were people mainly travelled, and crossed when they crossed.
She was a quick study, and easily picked up the meaning of the colors and those crossing norms, even if the words walk and don't walk had not been shown.

The throngs of different cultures did not perturb her. She had seen Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people from Mesopotamia,
Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia, Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the areas of Libya around Cyrene,
visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism), Cretans, and Arabs all together at once, so this was not that dissimilar in effect.
Differing ethnicities she considered of little consequence. They might divide or unify themselves themselves by it,
but to her they were all just humans. She categorized them her own way, unrelated to race or ethnicity.

You must walk for 20 or 30 minutes and see all sorts of new things.  When you get to one of the beaches, you see new things everywhere.  Food stands, which are not new, but the foods were different.  "TACOS"  "Pizza by the Slice"  "Maxwell Street Polish"  There is a man selling colored floating things with a sign that says "balloons".  A woman selling "boat tours".  There is a woman and child with a sign that says "homeless...please help."  That isn't new either.

Then you feel your bottle being touched.  "Zahrah, where did you go?"

Like with the meat, the scent of the food was attractive, in its newness, and she would go close to the stalls to take it in.

The balloons were not completely new to her- Hot air balloons had been in existence since the 1700s, and they came to Persia in 1877.
But to see them so small without a visible fire for lift- that was new. She was also aware of balloons made from the parts of animals-
that had been going on for hundreds of years longer. But those did not float in the same manner.
She vaguely wondering if jinn held them aloft, but dismissed the thought- unlike a bottle, lamp, or ring,
a balloon would not be strong enough to serve as a djinni totem. They were cute though, and it was enjoyable to see them float on the wind.

The poor and beggars were not new sights, true, but it was most unusual to see a woman in this role. Men and children, certainly. But a woman?
Had she no male relatives to take her into their household? She tried to puzzle this out when she felt hands upon herself and her mistress' call.

With blink, she was gone from the beach, back at the museum, with her bottle.
"Here I am. I am always here if you call, miss... Stephanie. Have you a desire to be fulfilled?"

Zahrah nodded. "If there is work to be done, this one is at your service. As for where I went, since you did not request I confine myself
to my bottle or the building, I walked by the river and saw part of your magnificent city. How much of it belongs to you?

"Oh, very much I would like to see your markets, your squares, your temples, mosques, palaces, and towers. It has been decades, at the least. While I do not become bored while confined, no matter the length of time, it is not as exciting as going to see what the world has become. And it makes me a better servant to know your world."

When Stephanie laughed about her accommodations, Zahrah interjected, "Your home will be no disappointment to me, mistress. But if it is a disappointment to you, you have but to wish for more."

When talk turned to moving, she said thoughtfully, "I can give you no help on how I was brought to this place specifically. My bottle was boxed, limiting what could be seen. And there was little to hear that sounded like it would lead to freedom and service to a new master, so did not strive to follow and remember conversations."

She shook her head, "As for shrinking my bottle, no. While it is a part of me, it is also my prison empowered by Solomon's pact with the one who rules all. I have no ability to affect it, physical or magical, in any direct way."

When you talk about seeing what Chicago has to offer, she smiles.  When you talk about changing her apartment, she just sighs.

"The apartment will have to stay as it is.  But seeing Chicago is something that we can do.  OK...if you cannot shrink the bottle, I think I still have a plan.  I'll have to get a different purse or a backpack.  We'll get you out of here tomorrow, after work.  I'll need to run to get a few things.  Will you be OK for the night?"  She glances at her watch.

"I will be fine," Zahrah assured her. "Just as the wind cannot blow forever, so must this one rest, so you may have little concern there will be much activity here. Simply leave the stopper off my bottle, as it is, and I can enter when necessary and exit at your call." She ceased maintaining her solid state, her smoke drifting towards, and then into, her concealed bottle.

She did not intend to stay there the entire night, but there was no reason to tell Stephanie this. Her mistress would undoubtedly feel more reassured if she thought her djinn was planning on remaining there until tomorrow.

But instead, she planned to rest, then a few hours after Stephanie had departed, exit her bottle once more. Had Stephanie specifically told her not to, she might have stayed to clean and organize things here. But with a directive against doing that given, she would pursue other activities. Clothing herself in similar fashions to what she had seen on her walk today, rather than the lab coat ensemble she had duplicated before, she would teleport once more outside the museum to resume her explorations, this time seeing the night life of the city. After all, the smile Stephanie had given her earlier implied her mistress would be pleased with Zahrah doing so.
