A ding hits your phone in the middle of the night. The text reads, I am done with the documentation and review.

Your alarm goes off earlier than you wish, but not to far beyond the norm.  Alexa's voice reminds you of a meeting at 8 AM a the Dirksen Federal Building with Agent Buenger of the ATCPE.  Not long after that Hiromi can be heard on the phone with the office.

The memory of the Mediterranean last night is wiped away by the current taste of morning mouth. Rei performs her morning rituals in the bathroom before she walks into the living area toward the kitchen for coffee and a light breakfast.

As she makes a simple cheese omelet, bagel, and coffee, she asks Hiromi, "Who were you on call with at the office?"

She then eats and dresses in her usual suit jacket and skirt with heels. A Louis Vuitton carries her essentials. She opts not to carry the burner cell with her leaving it with Hiromi to give her at the office after the meeting with Buenger.

Without pausing from a conversation, Hiromi pushes a croissant across the island top when you enter the room.  "Yes Dr. Morris, I understand that you are looking for additional funding, but there is a method to request that and calling directly isn't that.  And yes is it part of my job to handle calls on behave of Ms. Rousseau."  She rolls her eyes a little when you look at her.

Your trip downtown is uneventful and you are admitted to the Dirksen Building, after walking through a metal detector and having to check in as a 'registered guest'.  When you arrive at the offices of ATCPE, you see they are in some flux.  There is a some boxes, a little construction, and what looks to be a new 'front desk' area.  The suite is maybe 5 offices big, but they are being refreshed and expanded.

You are greeted by a young man in a 'fed' suit.  "May I help you?"

Upon hearing the who and why for the call, Rei just sighs and shakes her head before sipping her coffee as her bagels toast.

She makes a mental note to have a discussion with Dr. Morris that while her surname is Rousseau, she does not control the purse strings for the company.

Rei responds to the young man in the suit, "Rei Rousseau here to see Agent Buenger. I have an appointment."

She makes a mental note to inform Sentinel about the expansion.

"One mement please."  He gets up and steps trough a door and to the left.  He comes back just a few seconds later.  He stands in the hall and motions for you to come this way.  "The last door on the right."

In an office that smells of paint, behind an average desk, sits a tired looking man.  There are two average chairs before his desk.  "I'm Agent Buenger.  Please sit Ms. Rousseau.  Can I get you a coffee?"

Rei sits but declines the polite hospitality as she hasn't determined if this is polite, "Thank you, Agent Burnger, but no thank you for the coffee."

She then asks, "So what do you need from me?"

"It seems your meeting with the ACPTE has been moved up the schedule and it is time we got to know each other.  I'm the newly minted agent for Chicago and suburbs for the ACPTE.  Your meeting with Special Agent Flowers and Special Agent Franks, who are not assigned to a specific location and will 'float' though the territory is the reason your meeting was kicked up.  This is not a legal proceeding.  This is simply a fact finding conversation and has nothing to do with the incident at the museum.  CPD has jurisdiction over that.  But since the ACPTE is assigned to track and document 'specials' by government agency agreement, U.S. law and U.N. special information exchange agreement, that is what we are here to do.  You sure you don't want that coffee?  The new forms are a little longer and more detailed than the old ones."

He does put a business card on the desk and slide it to you.  Blue on white, much like any other.  But the blue circle that said 'ATCPE' with words 'track', 'define', and 'contain'.

Buenger is middle aged, balding and wearing a suit that says the same (standard issue?).  He is relaxed and seems a little tired.

Rei is relaxed as she knows the existing ATCPE file on her is sparse and that the agency wishes to avoid bad press. She shakes her head, "No thank you, but you look like you could use some."

She takes the card and places it in a small metal wallet she produces and returns to her purse, "I am familiar with the older forms as I had to fill them out when I applied for my Work Visa to enter the country. The information on those forms has not changed in the last six months since I filled them out, but I understand the desire to meet personally."

He chuckles as he gets up to walk over to a office fridge with a coffee machine on it.  "Six months...that is old news.  The agency is changing and we have more information to collect.  All of it is still voluntary and will not be shared beyond our records, unless international law and U.N. court requests are made."

He pours himself a mug of coffee.  It smells weak.  "Meet personally...yes, that is important too.  We need to make sure we are doing our homework and part of that homework is putting eyes on the people in the system.  And thank you for stopping the robbery.  The report says it was a standoff until you arrived.  Which begs the question, why did you?"  He sits back down and pulls a tablet out of his desk.

Rei smiles, "I had the afternoon and was close enough to help. My family has a history of supporting the arts and sciences."

Rei then asks, "So what more information do you want?"

"Let's get started then."  He starts to go through bio questions (height, weight, general description, powers, strength, etc.), your history (major events, a short family history) and then he hits a the last question.  "In your own words, why do you use your powers as you do?  What do you want?  I've hit text to speech for this question."  He stops and looks at you for the last question.

You are allowed to skip questions as this is voluntary.  It takes maybe 20 minutes (mostly multiple choice questions).

Rei answers the questions truthfully including the fact she has never officially attempted to quantify her abilities and only has rough guesses such as the range of temperatures she is comfortable at and her flight speed. As fro family history, she points him to the Rousseau North America website which has an English translation of the original French version of the family history from the Rousseau International website.

At the last question, Rei takes a short breath, "Because I have power, and I choose to use it to help others. I am not particularly powerful, but I can make a measure of difference as I did at MSI yesterday afternoon. To not use my abilities would be a waste as would any talent squandered. I will not disregard or ignore that my actions also aid the family business with good public relations, but that is my job."

She then asks, "May I ask you a similar question? As you seem to be a bored and tired bureaucrat which is sadly real or a clever ruse, why are you an agent of the organization?"

Agent Buenger seems shocked at first, but sits back and gives a little sad smile.  "I've been here since the beginning of the agency.  It was something positive and new in the 80's.  A 'partnership' sorta.  But administrations changed, we saw the limits of what we could do, and sentiment was a roller coaster.  It all changes.  And then...the turn over. You don't remember some, but you miss the good ones.  <snort> I have two missing now.  Anyway, I'm due to retire in a few years and here we are...changing again.  Note the last word on the card...we seem we are getting into the prison business.  But...we'll see."

He sits forward, "I'm done with my questions.  Do you have any more?"

Rei nods, "It is unfortunate when something you have been with from the beginning eventually dims your own fire."

She sighs, "I hope to avoid that myself."

She then says, "I have no further questions, but I came here to answer yours. If you have nothing further to ask, I will take my leave."

He stands, "Thank you for coming in.  I hope to see you in the future."  He walks with you to the door of the suite.

Rei leaves and heads to the office via the company driver. On the ride to the office, she orders Agent Buenger a coffee selection good for an automatic coffee machine that are flavorful and high octane with a card to read No one should drink weak coffee they do not enjoy.

The ride to the office is uneventful.  There are a few messages you have time to answer as you ride.  Most of it is routine and dealing with one project or another.  Most of the teams are autonomous, but there are those questions or needs that are political, budgetary or directional that come to you daily.

One is from Hiromi <Directed Dr. Morris on who to go to for funding.  I get the feeling he will be a squeaky wheel. He is researching potential  bacteriophages for something.>

Rei goes through the updates deciding to deal with them when she gets to the office, but she texts Hiromi I may have to get my clogs ready for Dr. Morris. He may learn the hard way with how the French deal with squeaky wheels.

At the office she exits the company car and thanks the driver for the lovely ride.
