Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

Here's my list. Let me know what you think?

1a. I have a few. Ill do their reasons with them just for convenience:

A. Armadillo: He's been everywhere, done everything, met everyone, can survive a fall off the Empire State Building and yet can't catch a break to save his life.

B. One of the more obscure 50 State Initiative guys, like Miles Flatt, The Fin, Maneater or Paydirt. I like the idea that they've had ridiculous adventures we never heard of in, like, Goffstown NH. The idea that Vermont or Rhode Island needed a stationed, federally subsidized superhero team amuses me.

C. There are, sfaik, a few retired WW2 era heroes still floating around- I'm thinking SuperSabre, or Spirit of 76 or ThinMan or something. I think the idea that they've earned a federal pension, got gutted in the last financial crash like everyone else, and had to do odd jobs to make ends meet is fun.

D. One of the 70s "trucker" heroes like US1 or Razorback. Combination of being hard-workin' blue collar guys and being ridiculous as hell.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

Armadillo would be a great choice. His history of bouncing between hero & villain status gives him a lot to play with. Plus, it'd give us a tank for those times when that wall just has to come down right now.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

I’m not into romantic RP at all. So if I go with Speedball, I’d stick with nothing more than the awkward ex angle.

One thing Ive found is a list of people he's fought... I think a fun running joke would him just running into people he "met" before. He lost a roller derby match to Dazzler once, Im just saying. :)

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

Relationship or not, Speedball is a perfect choice.

Squirrel girl would be better than boom boom I think. She's had a bit of a popularity surge lately... Is there any particular version you had in mind?

Peter David's Capt marvel where genis vel goes insane? That one didn't seem satirical. But I haven't gotten very far in, or maybe I have the wrong series.

Armadillo is right in that sweet spot with Speedball too.

Armadillo: "Speedball... Speedball... we fought in Illinois or something, one time? His guys, me and Tiger Shark. Didn't go great."

Wrong volume. PAD wrote two volumes, and I’m referring to the first one, where Moondragon couch-surfed with Rick Jones and stole Marlo at the end of that volume. She offered dry social commentary and played nicely off Rick & Marlo. I think the PAD runs set the stage for Moondragon meeting Phyla-Vell.

smoot, I’d love seeing Armadillo, with Razorback coming in at #2 with a bullet! The notion of Super-Sabre working for supplemental income because Social Security ain’t cutting it has a strong appeal, though.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

To be completely honest, I don't really read a lot of comic books, and mostly absorb info about characters through being around comic book geeks and reading RPG blurbs about them. So I don't know about different versions of Doreen except that some are sillier than others, and she'd probably have Tippy Toe as her partner instead of Monkey Joe. I know she had a thing for Speedball and they kissed one time, and then he turned into Penance McEdgelord and that didn't go well, but I dunno much about timelines and what's canon and what isn't right now.

Maybe we could go soft on continuity? Acknowledge the major stuff, but leave room to grow our own history in-game.

Cool! I think Ill at least start with Armadillo. Maybe switch out or alternate with SuperSabre later.

Btw, while I am loving the idea of Armadillo having had a weird life, Im mainly planning to use it as a source of humor. He had an extradimensional tourist impersonating him. He's met Doom a few times, once as his neighbor in prison. In telling his 'who got me' list, he's got three Spider-guys and its the reason he knows the plural is "Captains America", not "Captain Americas".

But the thing is, I dont expect anyone to use it. Maybe as a running thing, but not seriously. Maybe some stuff he forgot, or someone convinced him happened, but it didnt, or in some dimension, his life is the top-rated telenovela or something.

Fair enough. How do you want to play her then? On a silly scale where 1 = Thanos, and 10 = Howard the Duck, where do you think she falls?

That does sound much more satirical. Sounds like it happens before the Crazy Genis Vel one. I have Marvel Unlimited, so I'll see if I can find it for some research.

Like for Conan, my main concern with Moondragon is striking the right tone.

I'm slightly concerned about her power level as well, but MHR tends to handle that better than most games, and it's not really a focus of this particular MHR game anyway. Still, if we use her datafile in Annihilation, we might need to ease some of it down a bit.

On that scale, I'd probably put her around a 6 or 7. Pretty darn light-hearted, but not breaking the fourth wall or climbing through piping into other timelines so she can hang out with a better Speedball or anything.

ChrisCross drew most of that first volume. Moondragon shows up fairly early, crashes with Rick, watches Trash TV.

I’d see Moony providing arch, dry commentary and she’s always baffled by Earth culture, especially what we have in the States. She could always play the “Straight Man” to the zanier cast members. Not unlike the mix seen in classic JLI.

Regarding her power levels, is there a way of converting FASERIP stats to Heroic? How crazy are the Annihilation stats?

Heh! Do it.

With a cowgirl cow lady and an armadillo guy, we could end up confusing that "totem hunter" guy that hunts Spidermen.

"... that's just... you know what? 'No.'"

Bova actually works quite well for the plot idea that's most fully formed in my head. I was wondering how to get it started; Bova is perfect.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

I'm reading that Peter David captain marvel volume and coming around on moondragon. I think that means everyone can do their first choice. The roster looks like:

Squirrel Girl
Armadillo
Conan
Moondragon
Speedball

That is quite the cast, and has a nice range of abilities.

If there are no objections, I'll update everyone's game name.

I'll also open a thread for datafiles. I find it a lot easier to access them in a thread than in each players descriptions or character sheets.

Does anyone need help with an initial datafile?

I’m good to go.

I’ll use the official Speedball datafile with a few minor tweaks.

If anyone needs help with theirs, I can also lend a hand.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

I'll be using the Armadillo one from the 50 State Initiative book.

Interestingly, the writeups.org entry gives me a good idea how to play him, better.
