Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

Watcher:
Armadillo looked good.

Two suggestions: you can take versatile sfx on your one powerset.
See if you can dial up the 10 xp step in your second milestone. Those are supposed to be moments of major character development.

Would adding "and make it stick" help?

There was an issue of Jessica Jones where he had a pretty deep epiphany for, well, Armadillo, for instance.

Here's an offer for a starting place:

There was a plotline where 'dillo was one of the last men standing after a heist (he was only one of three out of about a dozen guys to just do what they came to do instead of backstabbing). He got a LOT of money out of it.

Problem is (if you can call it that), he met this awesome lady, Daisy, and he's seriously trying to stop with the crime. So, even laundering that isn't great- he can't touch it, its probably sitting in a Cayman Islands  account and he can't use it.

So, he can't use that money, traditional superhero stuff hasn't worked so far, robbing and assault isn't on the table, he's an okay performer (he wrestles) but not "movie good" and Loki got him fired from a plush bouncer gig so... odd jobs.

Knowing as many people as he's met, I figure I'd just have him make a "Rolodex" and start making calls. That or just have him walk into Damage Control looking for a job.

[Who Speedball interned for IIRC. ;) ]

Alternatively, he DID try acting. Marvel had a Conan expy series that 1) Wonder Man got into and 2) the "original" (ie, the stand in for Conan) HATED when he found out. Maybe that's how we met- 'dillo was on the job, Conan comes looking for payback (or, literally, pay back) we get to do Schwarzenegger impressions, alls well.

And make it stick would go a long way. I was thinking about my own personal weekly commitment to finally lose weight. It's just... anticlimactic right now. :-)

There's this issue of She-Hulk where Hellcat is unemployed and tries to set up a super-temps type of thing. I was thinking maybe SG and Speedball came upon the same idea and set something up that's just getting off the ground. Maybe they brought 'Dillo in somehow. Maybe he's using that money as venture capital. We can probably figure it out as we go along.

And I'm not sure how we're going to bring Moony in...

You should do Ahhnold impressions anyway! :-)

Conan, how new do you want to be to the dimension? Would you have been around long enough to get cast in the movies?

I was going to start us in New York, but I do have a fondness for West Coast hijinks. Starting you out in LA could bring the movie angle in.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

-Oh, BOY does Armadillo know She-Hulk. (They've fought, she's represented him in court, then they fought some more on a different occasion, they found out about the Tourist thing together, it's a whole... thing.)

The combination of "Armadillo happened to be dialing down his list of contacts" and "Everyone else somehow got in touch with Hellcat's agency"

Incidentally: Squirrel Girl once nannied for Jessica Jones at the Avengers' place, beating out Patsy Walker (and others):

Funny story actually: https://images.app.goo.gl/AdtejAaw3GuVzcWc6

https://images.app.goo.gl/84Khdrth34mfAMqZ7
 and
https://sketchcardsaloon.com/2...l-girl-vs-wolverine/

among other things. ;)

...which 1) gives her a Degree of Kevin Bacon (Armadillo knows Jessica Jones, a little) and 2) a reason to have met Bova (who is- let's be honest here- THE BEST NANNY IN THE UNIVERSE. She raised, like EVERYONE. ;) )

-If Armadillo was good with money, he'd be a different guy. ;)

-'Dillo's a San Antonio guy, but Daisy's in modelling, they might go to LA and "try new stuff". Besides, he's only lost a few fights on the West Coast, so fresh start. ;)

I'd like to have him having met the modern-day "Savage Avengers" in the Savage Land per the most recent comic series. Later on he meets Dr. Strange, so we can say that he wound up on the left coast somehow. Maybe he wakes up with no memory of how he got there, which would fit in well with his hatred of sorcery. I'd prefer not to have him involved with pop culture at all, since one of his Limits is "Distrust of Cities. Earn 1 PP and step up Mental Stress or a Complication related to being in a civilization." If we spend a lot of time around buildings, he's going to have to get to work on buying that off. :)

For the record, I'm not playing the Arnold version of Conan. I'm playing the book/comic book version. Conan was a lot smarter than the movies made him out to be. I'll be playing up the naivety, but dumbing him down and making Schwarzenegger jokes is not in my plans. Everyone else can feel free to have at it though!

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

Oh, I kind of figured:

-The "Arkon" (Conan, basically) movies exist in the MU.
-An Arnold-style actor plays him in the movies.
-Wonder Man played a villain in "Arkon IV"
-We're in the phase where the Governator is doing movies again (and not... very good ones? That'd be about right for "hire Armadillo!" We'd be up to about IX at least by now, I'd assume.)
-Conan, once finding he is owed a great deal of currency, is kind of relentless about it. :)

I didn't mean to say I was assuming you were playing it that way. Sorry for the miscommunication.

Also, feel free to call him everything just short of the right name. "Glyptodont! Over here!" "Javelina- look at this!" etc. ;)

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

If Doreen & Robbie kicked off their own Temp Agency, Moondragon might seek them out over Patsy’s. Moony’s false pride could easily keep her from asking a former pupil for a job.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

I've read about 1/4 of the Robert E Howard stories, so I'm familiar with THAT version of Conan.

Savage Avengers isn't in my Marvel Unlimited subscription yet, so I have to confess to ignorance. Who's in it? I saw Wolverine (OF COURSE- he's on EVERY team since like 1995) and I think Elektra.

How much as Savage Avengers Conan gotten used to this new dimension? If he wasn't hanging with the Savage Avengers, what would he be up to?

Continuity is going to be a giant mish mash. Hope nobody minds. A couple of specific versions of things I like (and plan to have in the first arc):

- Jeff Goldblum/Thor Rangnarok Grandmaster. The blue guy in 616 is cool, but Goldblum is just SO good.
- The green hulking version of Hydra Dreadnoughts from Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoons rather than the silver spikey guys.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

Another point I might have missed someone mentioning in the big wall of stuff I've just skimmed: Conan exists in Hyboria, which is legit just past Earth. He can time travel to modern day simply by being sealed away for a while. No dimension travel necessary.

Also yeah, Robbie and I could have started our very own Heroes for Hire type deal, renting out superhero services and getting odd job requests instead. :D

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

I've noticed that most images are now behind https urls. That seems to block embedding in RPOL posts, as images rather than links.

Anyone know of a work around? Other than downloading the picture, then uploading it to my google docs/imgur/whatever and posting the link that way? Any work around that doesn't require all the copying?

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

Quick read:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savage_Avengers

Squirrel Girl: Per Savage Avengers & my earlier post, Conan's already in the present day. It's just a matter of hand-waving him to wherever the game starts.

I like the idea of Conan finding out they've been making movies about him without his knowledge, input, or permission. :D

Watcher, I don't know if any workaround; I download pics, upload them to imgur, & take the code from there.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

And away we go!

This first scene is meant to bring Conan into the fold and give us all a chance at an action scene to warm back up to the rules.

Usually, people try to have PBP call out the next person up like they would at a table. That keeps things sane, but slows it down. Even with a 24 hour rule to get your turn up, it's possible we could go a whole week between posts if each person called out happens to miss their day. I'm open to discussion/consensus on how to handle it.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

In all my MHR games, that initiative method made the game move much smoother than free-for-all posting, where people all waited for someone else to post first. I say we stick with it.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

I’ve had basically the opposite experience with MHR initiative. Using the RAW in PBP grinds things to a crawl, but having everyone post, then the Watcher ends the round with one big response post, and opens the next around makes things go much, much quicker.

Let's see what a few others think.

Then I'll make a decision. Part of what we can do with this beach battle is try out one of the two methods. If it doesn't work, we can use the other method for the next one.

Re: The Sidekick Lounge (OOC)

Let's try posting at your own rate.

So everyone but SG still had a turn and can post.

I haven't said anything about dice pools... I encourage people to describe their action well enough that their dice pool should be pretty obvious.

Then in ooc text under the narrative, write out the things you're sticking in the pool. Veterans of MHR on RPOL know what to do.

Then go to the dice roller and roll. Make sure it says record each die. I'm going to hop over and set that as default as soon as I post this. But it's good to check.

Paste the dice roller text under your pool, choose your dice for total and effect die.

You can safely assume I will buy all opportunities as a single stepped up die if you roll multiples, unless I make an announcement that I'm pausing that (which I will do if Doom pool is getting too crazy)

I just posted a 2nd house rule which is really more of a pre notification so nobody gets surprised: we're going to reset individual character plot points to 1 anytime we reset Doom pool

Also, Armadillo's post reminds me that I have no Milestones. I was thinking about taking whatever Event Milestones were available. Watcher, please advise.
