Chapter One - Always A Beginning

A long, long time ago the World was in an age of chaos. In the middle of this chaos, in a kingdom called Hyrule, a legend was being handed down from generation to generation, the legend of the "Triforce": golden triangles possessing mystical powers. Whoever found these triangles would be granted their powers, enough to reshape the World. An evil army took up the search for the power, and spread across the land like a plague. The kingdom of Hyrule needed Heroes...


The cries of terror from one town bleed into the waking world, where the same sounds can be heard coming from outside. Each of our heroes open their eyes and hear screams and high pitched battle cries mixed in with the sounds of men shouting orders or receiving them. Diyan, the Green Witch, and Helor awaken from their beds, or at least bed-like cushions set out for the refugees. Hu wakes up by way of materializing out of his sword at Lozuh's forge. Being the first outside, Hu can see the reason for all the noise: Bokoblins and their trained octoroks!

Groups of the monsters have made it into Hateno Village, with only Talon's poor militia to fend them off. They're terribly outnumbered, and starting to fall! Hu can also see that his friends' weapons are still with him at the blacksmith's place, meaning his friends have no weapons to speak of. The demo house the others slept in is across the market square, with bokoblins in the way! The situation is rough.

[Welcome to Chapter One of Throne of Sorrow! The prologue, as you might expect, was a dream, so all HP, SP, and MP is at full and no equipment lost any Durability. Helor and Diyan gain 4 Temp HP each from Home on the Range.

This is not all of them, this is the group you'll be facing while the militia holds off the rest. The Octorok and Bokoblin Peons have already taken their actions, causing the townsfolk to run in fear and give them free reign of the buildings.

The market square is two Moves across, meaning you can get across in two turns if you do stuff, or one turn if you Sprint. The people who aren't swords are on the east side of the square and the weapons are on the west, including Hu. At the moment, those indoors are safe from bokoblin attack, since they don't know you're there. The blacksmith is probably going to be a high priority for the raiders, however, since it's full of shiny stabbers.

Realizing just how bad this situation is steath seems to be required. If I can I want to try and sneak around the monsters to the weapons.

While the heroes began to sneak their way across the battlefield, giving the combatants a wide berth, the monsters continued their rampage across town. A bokoblin wielding a nasty massive cleaver swung down his blade at one of the town militia (a farmer with little more than a pitchfork to defend his home) from behind, felling the poor man in a single strike. More bokoblins flowed in through the opening in the town's defenses!

Helor and Ajri slip into the fray, making a beeline for the equipment on the other side of the battlefield, and go unnoticed by the active combatants amid the clash of battle.

Young Octoroks' turn!]


The younger octoroks, only about the size of large dogs, see much more of the fight going on as they focus their attention at who they can shoot their snoots at. To Taliya's misfortune, they spot her making the run around the battle and close in on her, getting just within range of their target. To everyone else's misfortune, they spin wildly and spit rocks in every direction!

[Young Octorok Swarm uses Cardinal Shot! That's four Basic Attacks, one in each direction, with +7 To-Hit and 4 damage!

Angered at the guards striking down the townfolk, Green Witch steps up to the window with fire, literally, in her eyes. She mutters a series of arcane words, spitting the last syllable at a group of the guards, the sound and breath turning into a green fireball. "జోలా యొక్క ఫైర్‌బాల్!"

She targets the berserker, who seems to be the leader of this pack of bokos.

[Ok, will do Zola's fireball at a group of the guards. Probably going to catch a bunch of unwanted attention for that, but maybe it also makes a diversion for the rest of you.]

Lifting up Smithsoul as his own weapon this time, Hu casts a glance at the current situation. Bad. Very bad. Furthermore, his allies are without their weapons, and the smithy seems to be a target for the raiders. Well, no one was getting in unless he said so.

Heftily swinging Smithsoul through the air, Hu channels spiritual energy into a slicing blade of light that cuts towards the biggest bokoblin. He will hold his position for now - at least until the others get there.

[Hu uses Sword Beam on the Bokoblin Berserker for Weapon + Combat = 11 sharp damage.]

[Bokoblin Berserker takes 11-4=7 damage! 9/11 HP remaining!]

The flying blade beam cuts right into the bokoblin, leaving it flinching and angry. It yells at the shielded bokoblin beside it, then points at the weapon spirit!

The bodyguard gives some sort of yell back, but then charges after Hu, ducking behind its shield as it approaches!

[Bodyguard moves toward Hu, requires one more move to reach him. He also takes the Defend action.]



The large land octopus pulls itself forward on its four arms, faster than one would expect given its body proportions, aims its snoot into the air, and spits a rock with incredible force! The rock comes down on the Green Witch, a target well out of range of normal attacks, but apparently not from this rubbery beast.

[Octorok moves closer to the fray, staying 2 moves from the heroes, and uses Arc Shot for 6 SP, targeting the Green Witch. The attack hits for 8-4=4 blunt damage!]



The throng of bokoblins armed with clubs shouts battle cries and runs for the blacksmith's place, and also towards Hu!

[Bokoblin Peons Sprint towards Hu, and technically reach him, but are considered to still be in motion in the fiction. They are indeed within melee range.

Diyan goes unnoticed in all the fighting, as the Green Witch and Hu have the monsters' attention. The bokoblins have reached her destination already, and she may soon have to pry her weapon from one of the beast's hands.

[Diyan is now one Move away from the gear, hasn't been noticed, and should be free and clear if the peons don't get her stuff first.

Helor arrives at his weapon, Hu, who is fending off a mass of bokoblins! The group at the blacksmith's grows, even as more enemies draw near. Those smaller octoroks drag themselves closer to the fray and once again let loose an aimless barrage of rocks in all directions!

With the rest of the group apparently having made it to the blacksmith and their weapons, and her hiding place here in the inn not really that safe given the adult octorock's accuracy, Green Witch shrinks back from the window and heads around to the back door. She attempts to stealthily make her way through the back streets to the blacksmith to rejoin the rest of the group.

[In case I need to make a roll. Just a straight 2d6 here. I probably don't have much bonus.

[Sneaking is a roll of Agility vs Perception, so with your Agility 2, you got an 11 total. You lost the Berserker's attention when Hu fired a beam at him, and you've lost the Octorok's attention when you broke its line of sight. As this town isn't really big enough to have back alleys, it really comes down to timing your run across the road. Two more move actions, or one solid Sprint, to reach the blacksmith's!

"You're not getting past me!" shouts Hu, drawing Smithsoul back. He closes his eyes as flame-red strands of energy weave from his hands across the surface of the blade, causing runes to light up.

"Take... THIS!"

With a mighty spin, Hu strikes out at all the Blins surrounding him in one blow.

[Hu will first use a free action to sacrifice 1 point of Smithsoul's durability to increase its attack power by 3, then will use Spin Attack, dealing Weapon + Combat = 14 sharp damage in a Burst 1.]

Chapter One - Always A Beginning
[Peons have 0 HP and are simply taken out if their square is hit, so 4 Peons go down just like that! The Bokoblin Berserker is in range, having chosen Hu as his target, and takes 14-4=10 damage, cut in half by a Parry that takes it to 5 damage, leaving him with 4 HP remaining!]

SWOOSH goes the massive blade, slicing through bokoblins like paper! Half the group of Peons is cut down, and the Bokoblin Berserker barely raises his blade to defend himself in time, nearly taken down as well!

The shielded bokoblin makes a run for the blacksmith's shop as well, trying to catch up to the others who went ahead of him. He reached his goal, but without time to set up a proper defense. Still, he'd gotten close enough to aid his greatsword-wielding companion, if necessary.

The Octorok on the field moved closer to the action, but kept at range rather than moving in. When it spotted the Green Witch (Perception 9 vs 9 Stealth), it attempted another attack on the Green Witch as she made her way from one building to the next.

[Octorok rolls Shoot:

10:15, Today: The Owl, for the NPC Octorok, rolled 14 using 2d6+7.  Snoot Shoot vs Greenie.

14 hits, dealing 8-4=4 damage!

Green Witch is at 8 HP.]


The remaining bokoblin peons attacked Hu with their clubs and screeches!

As Diyan is really close to the blacksmith she is just going to run an get her weapons. If she does not take hp damage she is going to sword ray the shield guy for 7 damage. If she does She is going to attack the shield guy with a fist attack for 12 to hit at 7 damage

Diyan quickly grabs her sword and spin-swings it toward the bokoblin bodyguard, letting out a piercing beam of light in the shape of the weapon! The monster takes the blow and stumbles back a step, but recovers quickly and doesn't seem like it was very bothered by the effort, growling menacingly at its attacker.

[Diyan deals 7-6=1 damage! Bodyguard is now at 9/16 Health!

[Taliya deals 10-4=6 damage! Berserker is now at 3/11 Health!]

The beefy bokoblin flinches and shrieks as the throwing knife embeds itself in the creature's shoulder, then turns its eyes on the source. Charging with a bloody cry, the berserker runs and LEAPS at Taliya, swinging down its oversized cleaver with its whole body for momentum!

[Bokoblin Berserker uses Jump Attack on Taliya, dealing 12-4=8 damage! It is now next to Taliya and suffers the Off-Balance condition until its next turn, meaning it can't use Reactions or use Evasion in place of Concentration or Vitality.
