@Tamlyn: Beryl is from Waterdeep, so if you want to also be from there, I could see us serving together, or if the timeline doesn’t work out, maybe served in the same Marine Company. If you don’t want to be from Waterdeep, maybe we were enemies at some point? That could be fun...

@Beryl & GM: I'm gonna leave it to the GM what kingdom's navy Tamlyn served in. It was 25 years ago when he enlisted. It was a good aligned kingdom and at the time (or within a year of his enlistment) they were at war with an invading force. It was a war that lasted at least a couple of years. It could've been Waterdeep if that works with all of this. It could've been somewhere else. I am flexible. I intentionally didn't attach specific names to the locations in Tamlyn's background. So they could be fit to the story inside the game. In any case, it has been 20 years since he was in the navy. Firbolg are long lived. Tamlyn is 52 and still considered young (the equivalent of his mid twenties I think). If it was Waterdeep, it's possible we served in the same company but not the same ship as the one Tamlyn served on was destroyed and his naval career ended due to severe injury at the time.

@GM: I think my sheet is about done.

Hm. Well, it's 1491 DR at the moment in the FR, so 25 years ago it would have been 1466, and the only big naval conflicts at the time I can find in canon is some heavy pirate fighting in the Moonsea. A fleet of pirates known as the Black Moon Corsairs under the command of Kamoth Kastelmar, Lord of the Black Moon, did battle with the navy of Hulburg.

Hulburg is a goodly enough coastal city with a navy. That could work.

Aasimar Divine Soul Sorcerer/Oath of the Ancients Paladin reporting for duty.

Alvistra is from a small religious enclave which exists along the Sea of Stars. She was the Homelander (of Amazon series The Boys) of the area. By Homelander, I do not mean that she is so brash and cruel but instead that she was raised as a "weapon" of this small religion which venerates a lesser god.

She was raised how they wanted, was taught what they wanted and even was sent out into communities to prepare orchestrated miracles to further the reach of the region's faith. The church was so bold as to orchestrate combat for her (sometimes the priests would return the monsters which fell to her blade and sometimes she was just a weapon pointed at an undeserving community of goblinoids).

After a while (a long while) Alvistra figured out the shadowy purposes to her actions and uncovered the corruption of her enclave. For speaking out against this sect, she was exiled-and we all know what eventually happens to icons after they can no longer be leveraged to increase the money and influence of their backers...

I updated Tamlyn's character description with a pinch more detail. Unfortunately, short of paying someone to draw him there won't be a way to put up a cool picture for him like some of you have up. Description will have to suffice. There just isn't a lot of great Firbolg art, let alone art of Firbolg's with one arm.

I just had an awesome idea that would be so cool in combat with Tamlyn. I was just randomly looking through monsters and got to dragons on a random page flip and this thought popped into my head. Using his monk abilities to run up the side of a tree or nearby cliff as the dragon was flying by, free action to move his echo into position right on the dragon's back, then bonus action to swap places to teleport onto it's back as it's passing in flight. Then Tamlyn could blow action surge and ki points to try and make it flub a stunning strike save to drop it from the sky and slow fall his way down if it succeeds. So much fun synergy with echo knight and monk (let alone astral monk).

I did mention the weirdness but perhaps I should have also mentioned that a little trust would be required for us to move beyond the weirdness, after all I am not here just to screw over your characters-just to challenge them.
