"BY THE EYES OF HELM, DIE YOU MONSTER" Gaius yells as he plunges his sword down again.

OOC:
1d20+6 = 7+6 = 13
Advantage
1d20+6 = 7+6 = 13

2d6+4 + 1d4 = 5+5+4+2 = 16

Gaius takes a look at Fenlen and tries to gauge how he's doing health wise and wonders if it would be smarter to heal him than take another slash.

The gnome puts a final bolt into the beast. Severing the remaining connection to the babe inside. The beast begins to melt as does the baby within. Fenlen gushes forth from the depth of the creature covered in a disgusting goo. You all watch in horror as the beast dissolves back into the water whemce it came. You think at some point you see a small white wisp escape the dissolving monster about where the nerve center of the babe was. The specters are gone and the portcullis opens. The air of this place seems to have changed the shadows are not so menacing anymore the air is lighter and the breeze a bit fresher.

Gaelin rushes into the chamber towards Fenlen.  She like like she intends to embrace him, but after seeing the goo she pulls up short and pats him on the shoulder affectionately.  Then, she looks at her hand and tries to find a convenient place to wipe it, finally deciding on the altar.  "Cousin, I'm so glad you were not fully digested by that disgusting creature.  Your suffering was not entirely in vain, it seems we have exorcized the evil from this house.  When we find a place that serves wine, the drinks are most definitely on us."

Fenlen shakes his arms out, flinging the disgusting mess to the surface of the dais with a wet, sloshy splashing sound. Then, he wipes his face as clean as he can get it, and smiles at Gaelin. "I don't what in the hells I just went through, but I do know that a drink will help me feel better!" He laughs, and collects his sword from the ground, wiping it off and sheathing it. "Gaius, I think I'm just going to let you take point from now on. I'm a pretty good shot with a bow." He laughs again. "We should get going."

Chompski approaches the dais and slaps Fenlen in the arm. "Oy, glad to see you again friend. Tell us, what was it like to be digested? Did it... have a stomach?" Chompski then turns an eye to the dais to investigate for anything left behind from the creature or any details he could use to discern what foul ritual or group spawned this monstrosity.

If he finds nothing there, he also makes his way over to the pile in the alcove to investigate.

Chompski looks around at what remains of the flesh mound on the dais. It seems that destroying the beast has caused it to physically fall apart. What sort of ritual could have been used to create such a foul beast is unknown but Necromancy would surely fit into that equation somewhere. There is nothing else to be found in this room or in the pile of discard bones and refuse.

"Thank Helm THAT's over."

He looks around at the group, some covered in goop, some look a little bloodied, all worse for wear.

"It seems to me like a rest might be needed. My armor is fine but I fear for the rest of you. What do you say? And where do we go from here for that matter?"

"I may sound odd, but the house feels good now.  We could possibly rest a little here before we press on.  I could cook up a very nice meal using the kitchen, assuming everyone's stomach has recovered enough to retain food.  For where we go from here, I think we keep following the road and see if it takes us somewhere familiar.  Or at least somewhere with a bath, food and a warm bed.  And bars on the windows.  After this house and the wolves, I would prefer to travel during the daylight hours."

As you make your way back into the house you see that the downstaris is now in the same shape as the upper floors. Dusty, old and broken down. There is no longer any food in the pantry and the book that was taken crumbles as you open it. What ever force was holding the house together is no longer there.

After seeing how late in the day it has become, Gaelin follows Chompski’s lead and mediates for four hours, followed by four hours of spear and unarmed combat drills. The following morning she bounds happily down the stairs and prepares the best breakfast possible with the supplies on hand. She is not wearing her traditional monk outfit that was cut in places and covered in dry blood, but is wearing graveling garb. As the others start to congregate she claps hers hands excitedly and begins. ”I think I was able to fully understand more of my sensai’s teachings after reflecting on yesterday during my meditation. I do need some practice. Is anyone interested in shooting arrows at me?  Chompski?  You know you’re tempted.  I wonder where the road will take us today. It’s got to be somewhere nicer than here. Maybe with a bath, wouldn’t that be amazing. I never realized what I would miss from the monastery until I left.”

OoC; Long rest to get the benefits of the new level.

Like his elf companion, Fenlen also spends around four hours of this time meditating as if in reverie. During this trance, more than a century of memories come to him, but all those regarding magic cut through the rest, revealing spells and fighting techniques shown to him by the other high elves of Evermeet.

He opens his eyes and puts his newfound skills to use. For the next two hours, he conducts rituals of bonding with his scimitar and his longbow. Elvish script, written in blue fire hovers in the air just inches over the string of the bow and the blade of the sword for a moment before disappearing. Fenlen tests his ritual, flinging his scimitar in a spinning arc across the room, and with a wave of his hand, the sword vanishes before it hits the floor and reappears in his grip.

Now quite pleased with himself, he smiles and sheaths his sword, and sets it down propped up against a wall next to his bow until it's time to leave.

OOC: Long rest, benefits of 3rd level.

Martial Archetype: Eldritch Knight
Weapon Bond: Bonded with two weapons (scimitar and longbow). Cannot be disarmed of them unless incapacitated. Can summon 1 weapon to my hands with a bonus action as long as I and my weapons are on the same plane of existence.
Spellcasting: Can cast some wizard spells using INT.

"If I take the head off these bolts and attach some balls of fabric to the end, they shouldn't be too dangerous I suppose. Conveniently, they would also work well to test out Dog's reflexes." Chompski says while he fiddles with a few of his crossbow bolts. As he starts working, the group hears a large clanking upstairs that starts slowly and builds in speed and intensity until a large mechanical creature comes barreling down the stairs and bounds into the kitchen with the rest of the group. The mechanical construct can best be described as vaguely ape-like in stature, with a portion of its weight resting on it's large claw-like hands. Cables can be seen actuating the arms as it roams around the room.

Chompski looks up at his companion with a smile. "Oh, you heard your name didn't you? Let's go stretch out those joints." Chompski leads Dog outside and finds a large open patch of ground. He begins firing his practice bolts at the construct; Dog subsequently swats each one out of the air with seemingly no effort. "Optimal performance. That deflection routine will definitely come in handy."

OOC:
Dog is Chompski's steel defender. Along with basic attacks and actions, he can use 'deflect attack' as a reaction to impose disadvantage on one creature w/in 5 feet as long as the attack is against someone else.

Gaelin follows the dog outside to the field.  "That is certainly most impressive.  It took me 27 years of study to get to the same level of skill as the metal 'dog' you built last night.  That and the cool thing Fenlen can do with his sword.  I am always losing things, that would come in very handy.  I haven't seen Gaius or the dwarf this morning, can they turn invisible at will now?  Fly?  Shrink to a very, very small size?  Oh, I hope I didn't step on them.  All of this makes and elf woman wonder about her life choices.  However, should we ever happen upon a foe that uses missile weapons they will be severely outmatched.  Sure, we haven't faced any so far, but I'm sure they are out there, somewhere.  Well, please fire some bolts in my direction."  She says after dog's demonstration.  Gaelin manages to catch the bolts, with what seems to be a considerable amount of effort.  However, she suffers no ill effects.

OoC;  As long as the damage is less than 10, she doesn't lose hit points and can catch the bolts.  More then 10 I need to roll.

Gaius rests his eyes and sleeps hard pondering the evils that have been brought forth in this wretched house, and he shivers thinking of what they could encounter in the future. He looks for guidance and feels closer to Helm during his rest. He asks for guidance, strength, and the ability to protect he and his party.

As he sleeps Gaius feels the presence of Helm and realizes it is now time for him to swear his Oath as a Paladin, or break away from his path and follow his own path. Thinking of his history, the pains and loneliness he experienced in his past, Gaius makes the Sacred Oath.

Gaius awakes from his slumber and feels not just stronger, but feels his divinity course through his very veins! He sees his sword from the corner of his eye and would have sworn that it was glowing just a moment ago. He smiles and whispers to himself

"By the glory of Helm."

”It seems we have all put our previous instruction to practical application since we entered this house and as we didn’t all die very messily, we are decidedly more powerful for it. Nothing remains for us here, it is time to move down the road and see what new adventure awaits some random acquaintances to blunder into. And, if we are lucky, a bath. Maybe a meal not made from dry rations. And a bed. Change of clothes. One of those wonderful drinks with an umbrella in it. Pastries?!?!  Follow me good sirs and we shall find what awaits us.”. Gaelin rambles as she gathers her possessions and starts down the road.
