Briefing Room Three - Taomina Outsystem.

Several hours after the assault on the asteroid base, the command team assembles in briefing room three to hear reports from the various departments.

The Sharshana sustained only a few hits during the exchange of fire, mostly caused by fast-flying debris from intercepted missiles. No significant damage resulted thanks to the ship's heavy armor. A few cosmetic touch-ups may be due when the ship returns to port, but that is all.

The Rosax Guardian has been reduced to inoperable wreckage. The Sunburst Scatter had been partially stripped of components and has suffered significant structural damage, but with field repairs it ought to be (barely) capable of limping back to a port. There were a handful of survivors from the Guardian; the Sunburst Scatter's crew had sustained two losses and several injuries when Rosax struck; the Rosax forces had given the latter professional medical treatment; the Sharshana's medical staff were planning to monitor them nevertheless.

The Rosax forces had ambushed the Sunburst Scatter and had made a point of disabling the ship and capturing its crew rather than destroying it outright; from the reports of the Sunburst Scatter's crew, it had been a professional if seemingly spur-of-the-moment operation. They didn't have much to offer on what Rosax was intending since the Rosax forces had (wisely) kept them in the dark about what was happening. They had been held more or less according to the rules for captured combatants, which further highlighted that Rosax was a professional operation.

The Rosax forces that had remained on the surface had furthered that impression: tactically, they'd been performing a fighting retreat, simply trying to stall the marines' advance as long as possible rather than going for kills (or going out in a blaze of glory), finally surrendering to the Sunburst Scatter's crew when they'd finally backed into the prison block.

Between on-site investigations and interrogation of the captured Rosax crew members, you now have conclusive intel on where Rosax intends to strike: back in the Endup system, where most of the racing ships are expected to gas-giant refuel before proceeding. There are six ships assigned to the task, with orders to disable and capture: this isn't simply a terrorist operation but a calculated attempt at kidnapping members of the elite... and from what intel has garnered, the Rosax forces seem to believe that this is all part of a legitimate (to the extent that word can apply) privateering operation, although none of them are high up enough their chain of command to know who ordered it or what they plan to do afterward.

More broadly, it appears that Rosax operations were intended to destabilize the area; this would impact the political standing of the Duchess of Trin or the Duke of Zeng (or both), but it is again unclear who is behind it. Rosax forces received their orders from electronic drops outside of the current theater.

This has also complicated the matter of disposing of the Rosax forces: as they've upheld protocols and agreed to exchange information in return for guarantees, airlocking them is now out of the question unless Thenroy wants to bait serious trouble; they'll have to be turned over for trial, and given the agreed options for the location of the trial, they're unlikely to be legally deemed as pirates - which doesn't mean that they'll get off without any punishment, but it's liable to be far less severe.

The political implications of all of this remain up in the air, especially seeing as the Rosax strike force has yet to be dealt with, and the first racing vessels are due there within the next couple of weeks!

Briefing Room Three - Taomina Outsystem.

"Endup is only one jump away! If we arrive before the racing vessels, they won't end up collateral. And if we arrive before the Rosax ships, we'll handle them one by one.", said Iitan, brushing her left leg still sore after an encounter with a pirate's heavy engine.

Briefing Room Three - Taomina Outsystem.

Thenroy was in a mixed mood as the information had trickled in. Objectively speaking there was a  lot of good that had come with taking the pirates privateers alive. They now had a plan and Thenroy wasted no time in ordering the jump to disrupt the ambush.

However...Thenroy had a full speech prepared to deliver when he spaced the pirates that it seemed more and more likely he would not get the opportunity to deliver. He spent every hour hoping beyond hope that somehow the opportunity would be given. Rosax would be found guilty of horrific crimes like torture or abusing the prisoners, that Rosax would try to break out of prison...the list went on.

And yet none of that came to happen. Thenroy was a brutal man but before he was a Captain smashing pirates and spacing traitors he was a nobleman and therefore he knew better than to risk political standing among his peers just for the sake of petty revenge. An opportunity would present itself and he had recordings taken of the fight "for briefing purposes" and when he got particularly restless he would re-watch the Sharshanna smashing through the Guardian over and over again.

It was a good fight and a good win. Spacing a bunch of traitors and pirates would have been the cherry on  top but a sundae without a cherry was still a sundae...

OOC: Let's go kick some pirate butt!

Briefing Room Three - Taomina Outsystem.

Jacqueline looked rather upset. She was uncomfortably aware that an operation aimed at kidnapping members of the elite could have targeted her family although she didn't have to worry about her friends being in danger since, except Iita, the shy Jacqueline didn't really have any. Hrolf had gotten quieter around her lately.

"I'll start calculating the jump immediately" she said, all business. She looked at the calculations on her tablets and tried to think rationally. "It's got to be a power play. There's no hostile nation closer than the Sword Worlds, and I think we can be pretty sure they aren't behind this. But who benefits? It takes a lot to otherthrow a Duke, and if it's just spreading a little chaos they're going to a lot of trouble" she mused, tapping her stylus against her cheek. "I wonder if there's someone on one those racing ships that Rosax's employer is targeting... a noble's heir or and admiral's child or somebody like that."

"Back to Endup" she muttered as she worked out the mathematics. "Not a very fun planet." She loved seeing new planets but even for her Endup had not appealed.

Baron gave a nod of thought to Yune's speculation and figured it was worth investigating.

"Intelligence, prepare a report on the participants and notable specators for the race. Highlight any that would be of notable ransom value or would be particularly embarrassing for their capture."

Jacqueline looked very pleased to see the Captain valued her idea. "We should stay on our toes. Whoever can arrange something like this is either powerful or very daring."

Briefing Room Three - Taomina Outsystem.

"Captain, our cruiser is only lightly damaged. The tension needs to cool down. I suggest - after holding the ceremony for the Marines who died (*) - we organize 3 days of R&R and celebration of the Marines' exploits, and the people saved. Focused on the Marines, since they spend so much time getting bored aboard.
Since you would not accept us arriving in Endup inebriated or UI, those 3 days would be followed by 4 days of combat training and exercises on our simulators...
"

(*) on a smaller ship the corpses would be consigned to space, but I assume our heavy cruiser (50,000 tons) has sufficient space to hold the corpses and drop them to the next planet to be taken care of - or repatriated to Zeng. Plus, Naval Tradition. :)

Jacqueline nodded. "I conquer, a little relaxation after all this tension would be good for morale."

Taomina -> Endup

at the end of their shift, Iita calls Jacqueline.

"Hey J., would you please assist one of my team members? There's an ensign named Vanessa Velasques who's practically in tears, because she took Astrogation and did a blank exam, only to panic and fail it, and the real exam is in a few hours. You'd do her, me, us, a favor if you went over this with her just a couple of hours. Could you do that?"

On a positive answer from Jacqueline, "Thank you. She's waiting for you on deck B {junior officers} cabin C-66, corridor G."

Taomina -> Endup

Jacqueline sounded a little surprised, but said "Um, sure, I could help her out. I mean, I've never really taught astrogation, but it's all the same numbers, and I'd be glad to help out a fellow officer." She gathered her tablets and notes and made her way towards deck B. She hoped she'd be able to help out Velasques; numbers she could handle but panic and emotions were much harder for her.
