Zeng System: Space Trials.

The first task facing the crew of the Sharshana is to put it through its paces in a series of space trials to ascertain whether there are any major issues with the ship, and to start building a list of all of the little things that need to be adjusted, tightened, replaced, recalibrated, or otherwise seen to, whether by the ship's maintenance and engineering teams, or with post-cruise work in the shipyard.

It will also be a test of the crew - and of the officers that lead them. Working together for the first time is always a challenging experience...

The Sharshana currently has a CEI (Crew Efficiency Index) of 6, which imposes a -1 modifier to tasks undertaken by the ship's crew. This could change during the mission, for good or for ill.

The space trials begin with a series of low-power maneuvering exercises and simple small craft operations, proceed toward full-thrust tests of the ship's drive and navigational systems, and conclude with run through a marked course.

Hrolf (Chief Pilot) and Ishakhi (Small Craft Ops), let's see how things went for your department and whether anything unusual turned up: both of you make an Average (8) CEI roll (2d6-1 at current CEI).

The M-Drive is far from being the only system of concern to the ship's engineering staff during the trials. Some of the engineering and technical tests take place concurrently with its flight testing; some take place in between or afterwards. Nor it is limited to stress testing the Sharshana's hardware from the power plant and computer cores down to individual comm relays: several damage control drills and simulated system failures are also part of the process.

Iita (Chief Engineer) and Mammady (Bridge Engineer) are responsible for this one. Both of you make an Average (8) CEI roll (2d6-1 at current CEI).

Ah, the Gunnery department. So many weapon systems, so many target decoys to use them on.

If only the ship wasn't being so difficult.

Maybe it was due to the exceptionally volatile nature of high-powered weapon systems and ordnance, or maybe the Sharshana was simply feeling cranky by the time the flight testing was done, but everything from the point-defense systems all the way up to several test-fires of the spinal cannon - and the sensors that supported of them - seemed to bring out more than their fair share of glitches for the gunnery crew to deal with.

Sidare (Gunnery Officer) gets to deal with with this. The intermittent system faults impose an additional -1 DM on the CEI check, so Sidare will need to make the Average (8) CEI check at 2d6-2!
