Re: OOC - Discussion

In their twisted ethics the slavers probably view slaves as property instead of people.

Their honor is rather poor

Re: OOC - Discussion

I updated my last post to give the details of the level.

Demetrius - You're 1 zone away from the Fore of the ship where everyone else moved to.  On your turn you could reach it with a single move and grab a weapon the has been spilled to the deck.

Or you can spend a Luck point to Influence the Story and introduce some detail (probably not worth it here but good to keep in mind).

Nantas - have a look at the details and feel free to make any changes to your actions should you choose.

Can I take an Insight check to see how likely the guards are to respond to Nantas' taunt before I take an action? Or do I need to declare something now?

Sure, but you're pretty new to Barsoom and they're not exactly clear as you're looking at them through multiple rows of bars.  Let's make it a D2 check.

Re: OOC - Discussion

Yes, if you're making an Attribute Test then it cannot be a Free Action.   Empathy + Reason D2 attribute test

Thinking about this some more I wonder:
- What's the benefit if you make this?  How will it help you?
- What's the price of a failure (other than rolling a Complication that is)?  There may not be a price, may just be no benefit

I'm kind of thinking this may not be worth rolling for.

I'm kind've thinking the same thing. Gonna go with my gut, here, and Demetrius' relative lack of understanding of Martian culture.

How does the fight against "minions" work? it seems much smoother than in the arena, but then are we going for single hit kills?

Re: OOC - Discussion

Yes, Minions are dispatched with a single point of damage.

Actually...that means I should have you roll for damage, shouldn't I?  Always possible you roll nothing but 3's or 4's.  Shoot, I wasn't thinking

GM, I want the last slaver in group 1 to be dead. How many Momentum does that leave me, given my max of 3?

Cool. Question remains for our GM about my Momentum. Sounds like I'm at max (3) before the defending rolls.

Re: OOC - Discussion

According to your post in msg #40 you generated 2 Momentum.  To automatically kill the last minion would cost 1 of those.

Let me review rules and see if you just have to worry about banking any in your pool at the end of your turn or between actions.   It would be important as in msg #48 you generate 3 Momentum defending vs the 0 success...if you have to add to your pool before you can use for to Defend vs the next attack you'd fill your pool up with 2 and 1 would be lost.

Will try to post later tonight

Re: OOC - Discussion

So according to p53 under Generating Momentum:

quote:
Upon succeeding at an attribute test, the
player should take note of the amount of Momentum
generated. Those points can then be used while
the character resolves the current test, or saved for
future use as described later.

So you generate Momentum with a Test (in your case you generated 3 Momentum testing to Defend), you can use any of that Momentum while resolving this test (just like you do when you attack, generate Momentum, and then maybe choose to spend it to increase damage of the attack), or you can save it for later (ie: a different Test).

I read that as the loose any you can't bank from one test to the next.

In your case:
- start with 1 in pool from msg #40
- generate 3 more defending vs the 0 success attack in msg #48 - you'll need to use 1 or loose it as your pool can't hold more than 3
- once you've decided what to do with that extra Momentum, then you resolve the Test to defend against the Slaver that got 1 success - you'll have a max of 3 Momentum in your pool to use to help resolve
- repeat for each Test you make

What could you do if you've got more Momentum than you can store between Tests?  Take your pick:
MOMENTUM SPENDEFFECT
Additional MovementSpend 1 Momentum to move an additional range between the character and a target if not hindered or blocked by another character or obstacle. Spend 3 Momentum to move an additional range between you and a target, ignoring any obstacles (characters in your way can still attempt to stop you).
CounterstrikeSpend 3 Momentum after defending in an opposed test to immediately take a Conflict action against the other character in an opposed test. You cannot Counterstrike a Counterstrike.
Create ObstacleFor each 2 Momentum spent, increase difficulty of another character’s action by 1. Cannot increase difficulty more than 3 steps.
Create OpportunityFor each Momentum spend, roll an additional d20 for test. You must spend Momentum before you roll.
Dispatch a MinionEvery extra point of Momentum spent when fighting minions will dispatch an additional minion.
Increase Quality of SuccessMake effect of success more dramatic or useful. Cost often varies with type and amount increase.
Increase Scope of SuccessMake effect of success affect more characters or a wider area. Cost often varies depending on how much the scope increases.
Obtain InformationSpend 1 Momentum to ask 1 simple question about a character, situation, or scene. Narrator must answer truthfully.
Reduce Time RequiredReduce normal time needed to accomplish a task. Cost varies based on circumstances and length of time reduced.
Roll Extra DamageAfter succeeding on an attack, but before you roll for damage, you can spend Momentum to roll extra combat dice. Each point of Momentum spent provides 1 bonus combat dice.
Send Their Weapon FlyingThree points of Momentum can send an enemy’s weapon flying to where an ally might get it. Two points might knock it to your enemy’s feet.

We normally focus on Create Opportunity or Roll Extra Damage but those other choices could be useful with some imagination.

But maybe sometimes you just let that extra Momentum fade.  No big deal.

Recall that you loose 1 point from your pool at the end of every turn, so you'll have a max of 2 at start of next turn
