Re: OOC Chat
It's funny how games roll right along until players are asked to make a decision, then the attrition starts ;)

Anyway, good to see we're moving ahead.

Re: OOC Chat
Good point. And if we're down to 7 in the group, perhaps we should consider staying in one group after this initial split.

Don, I thought you were going to the ruins. Why are you posting in the thread for the Shard team?

Sorry, I though I was in the ruins. Might want to change the groups to 1 and 2.

Re: OOC Chat
I thought people might want to read the other team's adventure so I included "Ruins" and "Shard" in the title thinking it was a mildly clever way to distinguish the two.

I likely should have been clearer in the opening posts of each.

Sorry, failed my spot check after starring as a screen all day at work. The mind read the blurb as ruins and went from there.

Going to put in updates to the gameplay threads as soon as I can. Various factors in my life are a bit chaotic today and maybe tomorrow. Might be able to update by tomorrow evening.

Tracking is done with Survival, not Perception.

Whoops. Where was my brain at? Oh well just carry on and we'll do it right in the future.

Re: OOC Chat
Perception and Survival are interchangeable for finding tracks.  Survival is used to let you follow them for a mile at a time.  So... it's kind of both.

Re: OOC Chat
Jade is correct.

"...you can use the Perception skill to find a footprint or similar sign of a creature’s passage using the same (Tracking) DCs, but you can’t use Perception to follow tracks, even if someone else has already found them"

From what I can tell, we are looking at Firm Ground "Most normal outdoor surfaces (such as lawns, fields, woods, and the like)", which is a DC15 with two day old trail, making it DC17. Maybe 1 or 2 less based on the size of the Drake.

But that only matters if someone in the group has at least 1 rank in Survival since untrained checks can only follow DC10 or lower tracks. DM, do we need to start coming up with alternative plans?

Re: OOC Chat
If nobody is trained in tracking you can probably follow it for at least a while untrained but would likely lose the trail.

I didn't make this clear like I should have, but the tracks are not headed into the area you guys were going to do a sweeping search of, so if you can't track it you can always continue looking for the guy in the search area.

Or maybe fiddle with the cubes of packed earth in some way. Essentially imagine someone cut the ground below the camp into sections and left them there so they could be moved magically. And they had been moved.

If you wanted to mess with the ground at all they are still just packed earth.

Re: OOC Chat
Well if you want to make another roll to replace your prior mediocre one go ahead given the situation around the check has changed.

Re: OOC Chat
Given the benefit of being trained rather than untrained you could probably follow the tracks a little farther than the untrained default of a 10 DC and make another check to not lose them further along when untrained folk wouldn't have a real chance.

Re: OOC Chat
If you Take 10, you'll hit a 17 on the check. If 17 turns out not to be sufficient, we can pivot.

Re: OOC Chat
Taking 10 is one of my favorite rules in PF1 (mainly because my luck with dice is atrocious).  I hate that they got rid of it in any meaningful way in PF2.

Updates will be coming within 24 hours (probably toward the latter half of that). Sorry for the slow rate, been crazy lately. Had to take over another game suddenly when the GM bailed and at work we had a Covid scare so I'm saddled with double work (thankfully the guy tested negative but he's still got to self-quarantine for a bit).
