In reply to Nixor (msg # 125):

Yes, S'rela is affiliated with Starfleet but not a member.  She carries the Romulan rank of Sub-Commander, equivalent to a Starfleet Commander.  Her position is something akin to the witness protection program as she defected from the Romulan Star Empire.

Re: Crew
Hello there!

I haven't done my official character sheet yet, but I will introduce my character to you all and give everyone some basic info.

D'rala is a young Orion (probably about early thirties) who is working hard to rise in the ranks of Starfleet. She's very invested in the Orion concept of Cluros, which is the honor code which some Orion's base their lives on. It is a code of conduct involving self control, emotional regulation, and honor in combat.

She resents the common galactic stereotypes that people apply to Orions, and she wants to prove herself, as well as positively represent her people. She's very strongly against the Orion slave trade.

D'rala started her Star Fleet career in the Communications track, but has aspirations of a Captain's chair. She served as the primary Comm Officer when she was previously stationed on another vessel. During a violent disaster involving the last ship she served on, D'rala was forced to take control of the situation when the other higher ranking bridge officers were either all dead or temporarily incapacitated/absent. Her off-book actions saved lives but were questioned by some in Starfleet command. She's gained some recognition, but also some high ranking critics. I'm still working out the more specific details.

Perhaps she winds up on this crew because their captain is the only one she's found willing to promote her to first officer.

Re: Crew
Offering to you Lt. Claxton, our Science officer. Lt. Claxton is a friendly, a bit chummy  Saurian with blueish green scales, who likes to bother others with his astrophysical theories. He was mentored by Captain Graves as a cadet and he responded to hi invitation to join the crew out of deep respect for his previous mentor. He is a bit irked about not getting a trues science ship posting, but that doesn't stop him to get the best out of the situation. Possible relations with PC's:

D'rala: He is interested in Orion culture and he isn't prone to fall back on stereotypes. If she wants to share details of life on Orion he is ready to listen.

Akira: Good to have someone around who knows what Claxton is talking about when he brings up subquantum fields with shifting frequency wave asion radiation.

Krillek- doesn't know him that well.

Nixor: Calxton's parents were Saurian brandy producers so he has a bit of mercantile background. He is also a valuable help in engineering.

S'rela- secret agents are not really Claxton's type, but if she is respectful, so is he.

Tens- super interested. Freed Borg are rare and Claxton wants to examine the science of it and hear about the experience.

Graves- deep respect and admiration

Tsolo- probably good friend with someone who provides him with reading material and knows that much about different religions and cultures.

Tsolo has an interest in physical reading material; they are interesting in part because preserved. He, of course, is willing to discuss religions and cultures. In general, he is a person happy to listen, seemingly non judgmentally. However, there is one behaviour which is apt to get "his Irish up".

Incidentally, he works out to keep physically fit.

Does THIS adequately convey what the Command Squad looks like, please?

* My biggest conflict here is in the latter end of the Chain of Command:  should that fourth position be held by the Head of Security (who is also a PC), or by the next Starfleet Officer down the ranks (who is a Security Officer under S'rela)?

In reply to Nixor (msg # 138):

You are missing Krillek (vulcan, ensign, security) and Claxton is Saurian and he is just "Claxton" don't know where did "Ben" come from. Also, Subcommander S'rela is the equivalent of Commander, but is not a Federation member so I don't know if she can figure into line of command if another federation officer is on the bridge. I'd say it's captain's discretion really.

Not Dr. Akagi.  She was in a dive bar on the Federation fringe, drinking her troubles away and trading her medical skills for passage, room & board, and more booze...

Re: Crew
Hmm, a Vulcan in the Security department.  Interesting.

I would have to agree, unless Starfleet or the Captain specifically state otherwise, S'rela would not normally be in the command succession.  Presumably Starfleet gave her some sort of commission in order to be a department head, however.

S'rela has spent the last few weeks/months (GM's call) in debrief, essentially in protective custody, likely at the nearest Starbase.

Re: Crew
Please, unless it cannot work ...

When Graves was out on that fringe, and looking for crew, he met Nixor.
I am happy for either Graves to have recognised Nixor and approached the Ferengi ... or for Nixor to have heard about Graves' 'pulling together a crew' and came to the Captain.

Either way, when Nixor became aware that Graves needed a good Doctor to head the Medical Dept, Nixor 'might just know someone', and introduced Doc Akagi.

{Yes, Doc is a bit of a hot mess, with self-destructive tendencies ... but Nixor and Akira are doing their best to hide this from Graves and the crew; Nixor (at least) hoping that this will be the opportunity that will help Akira straighten herself out}

Re: Crew
This is a really ... f**ked up ... crew we have here:

- A grizzled old Captain with (at best) a tarnished reputation, who Starfleet would retire in a flash if they could find even one excuse
- the Sub-commander from one of Starfleet's most enduring enemy empires (in charge of our security and safety)
- a Doc who's a drunkard, self-despising mess; who turned her back on Starfleet
- a Ferengi black market dealer; after turning his back on Starfleet
- a Borg  ... what more needs to be said there!

Lets hope that the 'cleaner' members of the crew can drag our quality and reputation up some, eh!
Before we drag them down with us.

Re: Crew
Since Tsolon has a library, it would make sense if he was on the ship already.

Graves does not have a tarnished reputation. Heís served a respectable and distinguished career. Heís old, though. And was a POW. Starfleet tried to retire him but he begged for a command when he got wind of operation return. They were just desperate enough and he was respected enough that they gave him one last hurrah. Itís not like they know he feels guilty for not going down with his ship. That he wakes up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat. They might feel sorry for him, but he definitely commands respect. Enough respect that they let him take on this mission because he requested it. Even though they have not prioritized it.

It's the most logical decision.

You want a special security officer who has no time for your shit, or your excuses? Someone who makes certain that EVERYONE gets the port of call briefing before taking liberty on Kronos? Get yourself a Vulcan.

More to point, he's also a/the Intelligence Officer for the ship, so he might be a weeeeee too severe with who really has the Need To Know.
