A Realm province on the far shores of the White Sea, Kori is not very wealthy nor set in a locale of strategic importance. Its main industries are fishing and mining, the latter of which includes some few valuable gold and jade mines, and also the only known locations that essence crystals can be mined. Because of their moderate value to the Dragonblooded as jewelry and other ornamentation, the Realm had some mild interest in the crystal industry. Beset for years by harsh climates and the attack of beastmen raiders and barbarians, the province willingly became a Realm tributary a few years ago in search of some measure of safety.

After becoming a Realm tributary, Kori became home to several Realm business interests, mainly around the essence crystals. The Houses also sent troops to secure their business interests, which along with the Satrap's own forces provided some measure of stability against the raiders. However, with the Empress' disappearance and increased friction between Houses, as well as the North becoming a more dangerous place due to the Bull of the North, most of the Houses have withdrawn their interests, and troops, from the province. Perhaps coincidentally, reports of attacks by raiders have also increased substantially in recent times.

Desperate for aid, the satrap asked for help from house V'neef, and in response the House sent their star, Momodi, to assess the situation.
