Interlude: The Many Troubles of Jianta

Taking Momodi's advice, Yuna went into the adjoining bath present in her quarters and relaxed, the hot water washing away some of the tension and worry of the previous hours. She had lost most of her luggage with the shipwreck, but she found a selection of suitable replacements for almost everything she had lost already set out for her in her quarters, so the material loss is virtually irrelevant.

Eventually Momodi comes by to pick Yuna up, accompanied by Nanamo. She says that Y'mithra had been introduced to the necessary people and given appropriate quarters, then leads Yuna through the halls of the "palace", taking her back out of the spire and into the ground floor. They arrive at a spacious room boasting a large map of Kori and the surrounding regions set into a stone table, with several chairs surrounding it. Guards line the walls, and a group of servants kneel nearby, ready to be ordered about.

A large, slightly-overweight man sits on an ornate chair at the head of the table, eating finger-foods from a tray set at his side. Clearly the satrap, V'neef Papashan, he has his deep brown hair done in an intricate pattern of braids and hair ornaments, most set with crystals glowing in a myriad of colors, and his brilliant green eyes roam lazily around the room, at times lingering on the table's only other occupant. Said occupant is a girl not much older than Yuna, with pale golden hair and silver eyes, apparently ignoring the satrap and absorbed into reading from a couple of documents spread in front of her and writing down notes in a journal.

As Yuna, Momodi and Nanamo enter the room, the satrap smiles, turning his attention to them. "You're finally here, cousin." It's unclear whether he is addressing Yuna or Momodi. "Let's get this boring business over with, shall we?"

The silver-eyed girl cringes as the satrap speaks, but he does not notice it. She then puts her documents away, rising and giving a shallow bow to the newcomers. "Thank you for coming to our aid, esteemed guests." She walks towards Yuna, clasping her hands in front of her. "In the name of the Alabaster Seat, I bid you welcome to our realm, Lady Yuna. I am Song Yuqi."

Interlude: The Many Troubles of Jianta

Yuna emerged from her bath feeling refreshed and altogether much better than she had since waking up in the freezing water. She'd survived, she'd made it back, and she hadn't overstepped her bounds in her negotiations with the Bao. She thought. Or at least Momodi hadn't seemed upset with her after she'd explained things. That alone was a weight off her shoulders.

Stepping out as Momodi and Nanamo arrived, Yuna had to restrain herself from giving the steward a hug. That would... certainly be unprofessional. Even if Momodi had done the same. Even if she'd been scared she wouldn't see Nanamo again. There were people around and it would not be proper. And... And maybe afterward, if they convened in hers or Momodi's quarters. Either way, the Exalt could hardly keep a small smile off her face at being reunited with both Momodi and Nanamo.

As the trio arrived in the map room, Yuna's eyes roamed about the room, quickly taking in the positions of the two main occupants and taking note of the guards and servants, but quickly removing them from her apparent considerations. Being surrounded by so many guards still felt so strange, as if they'd all realize that this was certainly not where a peasant-scribe belonged, but they were supposed to be beneath her notice. She had to at least at act the part.

Of Papashan and the room's other occupant, she tried to catch some hint of their mannerisms and attitudes without giving away an overt scrutiny. At the satrap's greeting, Yuna gave a shallow bow, equally vague as his greeting had been, interpretable as either a returned greeting or merely a silent acknowledgement of him and his station.

As the girl approached, Yuna hid her feelings behind a politely neutral mask once again. Momodi had gone over a little of Kori and its politics before she got here, she shouldn't be surprised. And she outranked Yuqi. The heir apparent. Somehow. The Dragon-Blood offered Yuqi a bow in return, shallow but certainly enough for proper decorum, and said, "Your Highness, it is an honor to come to the aid of one of the Realm's most esteemed satrapies. I thank you for the quarters and the warm welcome you have given me, though I do apologize for my tardiness."

Interlude: The Many Troubles of Jianta

Yuqi's eyes widen, as she is clearly surprised at Yuna's response. So is the satrap, whose eyes narrow slightly. If Momodi and Nanamo have any reaction at all, Yuna cannot see, since they are beside her and out of her immediate field of view unless she turns her head.

"Of course. And you can hardly be faulted for the shipwreck; I am glad you found your way here without further difficulties," she smiles, "and secured a local ally in the process, no less." It's difficult to know for certain, but she seems genuinely happy about the arrangement with the Bao, which Momodi no doubt apprised her of. "But please, come; let's take a seat and discuss our current situation, as it is."

She motions for the table, and resumes her seating. After Momodi, Yuna and Nanamo are also seated, she speaks up again, while the satrap seems content to remain idling and eating his food; he does not offer any to either Momodi or Yuna. "As you know, Kori has always been beset by raiders and looters, mostly from roaming barbarians or beastmen tribes that wandered too close. Recently, however, the frequency and scale of such attacks has increased dramatically." She points to the map, to a small city north of Jianta.

"Two days past, we received news that the city of Meitan was attacked. Meitan is not a large settlement in terms of population, but it is one of our main crystal mining sites. It is also where one of our two jade mines is located. Preliminary reports indicate that the town was torched down and more than half of its population was taken captive. We've never had an attack of such scale happen before, nor an attack so close to the capital."
