I've added all of you, and tagged you all with the first classes you proposed.
Feel free to discuss. You're certainly not locked into that if you want to change your mind.

Hello all!

GM, if you would please add Halfling to my tag, I would greatly appreciate it.

This is will be my first time playing PF2, so have a little patience with me if you wouldn't mind.

Anyone really good at putting together characters ?

I have a concept and I know your supposed to follow the A,B,C formula Ancestry,Background and then Class. Human - Half Elf Heritage, Magical Experiment, Summoner.

So I will share what I have so far, I really hope to fit in and actually be helpful to the group and mission.

There is an option in the book for the Background - Magical Experiment or something like that. From the Secrets of Magic book. Going with enhanced senses.

I think I would like to play a handsome young man from Ustalav, of Golorian and he went to one of the universities with failing senses from some disease. They cured him by giving him vampire eyes (thus gaining low light vision/Dark vision) his eyes can glow red from time to time. He has the Scent ability from a lupine. So his senses were restored to him.

His time at the university as an experiment left him open to read the books and tour the halls and this is where he found he had a bond with his Eidolon.

Melanie a Psychopomp.

I am trying to work everything out but things are forming.

As far as builds, Summoners are supposed to be Charisma builds but I would also like some Dexterity, so I can help out from time to time.

As I said just concept stage at this point but nice to meet you all, and hope I will be able to help out. He probably never meant to be an adventurer till he formed a bond with his Eidolon and life changed for him at that point.

The Problem with that class/race/background is your dex maxes out at 14 and your primary stat Charisma maxes out at 16.

A rare background is fine if you want it.

The rare backgrounds break the usual background rules, though. You're giving something up to get the unusual benefits.
In particular, normally a character of any background can easily take a boost to their key ability. Magical Experiment never gives that, since no class uses Constitution as a key ability.

Of course, a Summoner might use offensive spells less often than some others.

You might want to change from half elf to another race and take the beastkin heritage. That would allow you to get both vision and scent abilities.

Hello Folks,

If you are not already familiar with it. Pathbuilder2 is a kick arse app for building characters in PF2.

I have been thinking of playing the heir for this game, does anyone have any objections or simply thoughts on the matter?

As far as classes go, I am very open to playing whatever the party needs. So far I am thinking either Cleric or Bard given what we have listed on the cast page. Unless our Oracle was planning on being the Healer.

However you want to do it is fine, including a link to Myth Weavers. Although I think I've found their PF2 sheet a little lacking--not that I'm not using it for a few characters.

Mythweavers will probably have to do for the time being, since it seems there isn't one in/on Rpol.

In the meantime, I think this is suitably oracle-y!

When does your class proficiency go up? Is is automatic or do you have to upgrade it somehow? Second question, is there a difference in damage for small characters?

Proficiency increases are generally class features you get as you level up. A few classes get one at 3rd but not most.

And no. Also Tiny, although that one does have a bit of a justification: The only Tiny ancestry, Sprites, are innately magical creatures whose strikes are always magical.

Prof in pathfinder starts at trained, which is +3 at 1st level. Then you add stats. Then at 2nd level and up you add in your level.

So 14 dex(+2) plus trained (+3) plus third level (+2) equals a total of +7.

Re: OoC Chatter

Ended up building a basic table sheet. If anyone wants I'll strip it down and repost it here but it's VERY rudimentary.

I'm waiting on a ruling regarding gear (AKA if I can cut my magic weapon and scroll costs in half). The savings will probably go towards buying spells (and more scrolls of those spells; mwahahahahaha) that I will need for the staff I inevitably hope to craft.

And Ember's Eidolon is mostly just a glorified bodyguard for now;

Sure, but that doesn't get you extra gear any more than adventuring or Earning Income prior to the game does. Where your equipment comes from doesn't change how much of it you have.

I meant "also." Thanks autocorrect.

And proficiency bonus scales directly with your level. Trained isn't just +2, it's 2 plus your level--that's +5 at 3rd level.
Sorry, I thought you meant improving your proficiency type. That improves with level, too, but not do linearly.

So we do not get to have, by way of example, two-crafted +1 weapons for the price of one by extending the crafting process?  Ok; will be finished fairly quickly.

I also need a GM-picked skill.

Sorry I'm a bit late; I've been hit hard by the flu the last couple of days. Don't worry though, I've used my time well by obsessing over useless details and throwing out part of my character concept........

I hope to finish my character and create a background+description tomorrow.

And a bit late for most, but I had made a sheet for a previous game which never materialised:

OoC Chatter

I usually just post a link to the PathBuilder2 pdf.

As far as my character goes. I was done, then I changed my mind an am thinking of switching from cleric to champion. Gives a little healing and still has the front line fighter we need.

I'm planning on being the second son of a distantly related house. My elder brother is going to inherit our Father's land so I have been sent to secure this.

I'll do that for now and translate it later when I have more time. This weekend, my son #2 is getting married, so I will have time to post, but not work on character sheets. I'm a truck driver and I work 55-60 hours a week so weekdays are very busy for me. CC is always the most time consuming.

I've posted my mythweaver sheet for the time being, it has most of my stats and info, I just had a longer day at work than intended so I'm a little behind on finishing up all the crunch.

Fluff wise - This is Mezzaline, the changeling oracle and ex-cultist! The cultist background was a little strange but I think it can work given the setting, how she'll fit in with the rest we'll figure out.

Booker most likely met you after his noble family crashed and burned. Given thier link to human trafficking and the transporting of such victims for sale, you could have known Booker by his real name. He had no idea what his parents where doing for all that money, so by the time he got involved in bringing evidence to the king(or whoever) you would have been freed and met a much poorer and less privileged Booker.

Ember's a wizard, but with a more mystic edge; he's haunted for starters, including by his (multiclass dedication) eidolon. He's got a fair knowledge of the mystic and occult, with hauntings as a specific lore. He'd do well for shared backgrounds especially with anyone who either has similar or polar opposite inclinations towards spirits and mysticism.

Re: OoC Chatter

I've finally settled on my final character concept; seeing that Ember had also taken the haunted background convinced me to go with this one ;-).

Athraz is a kobold who had a life changing experience; quite literally in fact, as he was dead.
For a time.

The how and why of that matter little for now, what is important however, is that he is on a mission to slay malevolent spirits. Other jobs are somewhat acceptable as filler to pay the bill, but any rumour of malevolent undead, especially spirits, will cause him to travel far and wide.

Thus you may have encountered Athraz on a regular job, but if you were in any undead related business, the likelihood of encountering Athraz was much higher.

The rumours of a haunted mansion are obviously hard to ignore for someone with such a focus.

I could see a champion (Player6?), or a cultist (Ember?) have that sort of connection?

Each character can attempt a Society check to recall knowledge to see if you already know anything about Xarwin Manor and another for Ioseff Xarwin.

That will probably earn all the Research Points you can get for those topics before investigating, but you can also spend two hours to make Diplomacy, Library Lore, or other appropriate Lore checks to do some research in a library, if you want.

Not that many relevant skills, but worth the effort. Woo no INT modifier!

In terms of character connections, Mezzaline is both an ex-cultist (the background is vague, so plenty of wiggle room I guess?) and with the cosmos mystery, it's likely that Mezzaline is aware of a whole bunch of strange and esoteric information tat might have been useful either to Iosef Xarwin or the party, depending.

EDIT - 20:07, Today: Mezzaline rolled 16 using 1d20+6.  Religion.

Re: OoC Chatter

Between Booker's knowledge of history, Ember knowing where to look for notes on haunted locations, and Mezzaline recruiting the aid of librarians and asking just the right questions, the party manages to find some information on the manor--and most of it is probably true!
In particular, they find a map with the precise location. They also know that the manor was built about 80 years ago, in the year 4642, and that it was fully abandoned only 15 years later.

That's information you get for 2 RP, and you've earned a total of 3. That's most of what you can get before investigating some primary sources, but you haven't quite hit the cap for regional lore yet.

(Mezzaline's Lore check would be a success, but cults isn't a useful knowledge base for either of these topics).

You can also each attempt a second Society check if you want to see if you know anything about Ioseff Xarwin.

And actually, I think I'm going to throw the second hook at you too. For this, I need to choose a research topic to give you... in the interest of not giving too many hints yet about what you might find, I choose Asethanna Xarwin.

The slim half-elf dropped his pencil. "I'm sorry to eavesdrop, but did you say 'Xarwin Manor'? Xarwin as in Asethanna Xarwin?" he said eagerly, "Are you going there?"

He'd been sitting at a nearby table at the library, a table holding books about sculpting and painting. Also perched on the table was a small, intricately carved wooden statue of a small bird which he had been drawing, fairly adeptly, in his sketchbook.

"Oh, no... I suppose it's probably as in Jossip Xarwin. Joseph.. ? Well, Asethanna's spouse. I don't know much about them, but they'd be the actual lord of the town while she was just the lord's wife. But she was also an artist, you know."

He held up the wooden bird. "This is one of hers. She was respected in her time, but not especially famous, and she's mostly forgotten now. She was an up-and-comer, but died young before she really achieved success. Or disappeared? I'm not sure anyone really knows what happened to her."

He held out a hand. "Caladrel. I've been studying human sculpture styles. If you're visiting the house Xarwin lived in, I hope I can convince you to tell me anything you find out about her. My teacher would pay especially well if you uncover some incomplete or forgotten work!"

There aren't a lot of them. Splint or half-plate armor. There are several held 1st-level itemsWalking Cauldron. And the cloak of feline rest.

I think that's about all.

Elmelio:

You did post while I was writing mine, which is why I didn't mention Elmelio. But I didn't add him because those are failures.

That said, if spending hours in research until you're sure you've learned everything you can is something your characters want to do... you can just say that. "Two hours" isn't a high cost before you set out, so we can just assume you get it eventually.

Re: OoC Chatter

The DC to notice that something was wrong was 15, so not only did almost everybody spot it but several of you critically succeeded.

Normally when a creature rolls Stealth for initiative, you compare it to the opponents' initiative rolls to see who goes first and their Perception DC to see if it's spotted. With about half of you rolling critical successes, though, I feel like I should give a benefit for that, so...

Malcolm and Mezzaline spot the centipede swarms. Sorry Elmelio: this applies to you, but your Perception DC was high enough you didn't need the help.

Elmelio, Malcolm, Mezzaline, and Athraz spot the centipedes and win initiative.
Ember also wins initiative but doesn't spot the enemy. He'll probably get some hints from the others, but can also Seek to notice them--their Stealth DC is 19.
Neither Booker nor Saoirse spot them, but it's a moot point as they also lost initiative. They'll reveal themselves before your turns.

I tend to think it's only fair for players to know the mechanics representing details their characters are clearly aware of, so some notes on swarm monsters:
For most purposes, the swarms of centipedes count as two Large creatures.
They can share space with other creatures, and must do so to damage them.
Swarms are typically vulnerable to area and splash damage, resistant to physical damage (especially piercing), and resistant or immune to precision damage.
As they lack a single mind, they're immune to mental effects that target a single or set number of creatures; they can be affected by mental effects that affect all creatures in an area.

I think that about covers it.

Saoirse:
Wow, Saoirse is oblivious to danger. I think I want to live in his head. Definitely not in his boots.

I though something else distracting was a nice way to describe a failed perception check.

Since swarms don't make attack rolls, being hidden doesn't do as much for them, anyway.

The apology is mine, since it looks like I accidentally cut a few sentences from my post.

Swarm A Strides into Saoirse's space and uses its Swarming Bites twice. 8 piercing damage and 3 piercing damage, with a DC 20 basic Reflex save against each. If either save fails, also make a Fortitude save against the venom.
Swarm B Strides to Athraz's space and does the same thing.
Friendlier damage rolls this time--4 and 2--but the saves are the same for you--DC 20 Reflex for each damage roll, and Fort save against venom if either Reflex is a failure.

Missing sentences in italics. So Saoirse takes a total of one damage after a critical success and a regular success.
Unfortunately Ahtraz that is a critical failure, so that's 8 damage and calls for a Fort save. Plus the second Reflex save.

Re: OoC Chatter

That's a success on the second Reflex save, so only one damage there.
However, a failure on the Fort save leaves Athraz afflicted with Stage 1 Centipede Swarm Venom poisoning. That deals 4 poison damage and leaves you flat-footed (which is... actually not very hampering when the swarm has no allies that use attack rolls).

Since it's an affliction, you can also repeat the save starting on your next turn to see if the condition worsens or improves. Until you either reduce the stage to 0 or it runs its course.

I was holding off on doing this when it had a very good chance of ending the encounter, but it's been several days, so...

Re: OoC Chatter

Do you want us to roll checks that we shouldn't know? Like should I roll my perception from earlier?

You can let me know or you can roll it. However you want to do it is fine.

So what's next? Resume checking the pond?

Re: OoC Chatter

Does Malcolm have his eidolon out? I don't think you've actually mentioned her at all.

Looks like one vote for checking out the water next, and two for heading to the front door.

Re: OoC Chatter

There's no duration on manifesting an eidolon. You can keep her out indefinitely if you want to.

And this definitely won't be a long-term problem, particularly because that would be wildly unfair. If you'd had Melanie out earlier, I would have described an unpleasant feeling but disregarded the mechanical penalty. This is in keeping with the advice in the book--the effects on certain creatures can be a useful hint, but we don't want to unfairly target players for choosing an ancestry/animal companion/familiar (eidolons aren't strictly mentioned because "Malevolence" came out before Secrets of Magic, but I'm applying the argument here) that coincidentally might be strongly affected.

I chose to hit you with the penalty in this case because you happened to manifest her for the first time when the party is almost certainly about to resolve that particular problem anyway.

I'm adding a new research topic, incidentally.

Oh, and nobody has checked the pond yet. Some of you were going to, but that was interrupted by the centipede swarm attack. It was one of the suggestions for what to do next, but so was heading to the house. In the interest of keeping things moving, I picked one of the suggestions when it wasn't settled.

Re: OoC Chatter

I would like to check the pond if it means giving Melanie time to clear her head.

Thank you for not keeping her constantly sick that would be bad I don't see Macolm forcing her to be manifested if it hurt her.

Re: OoC Chatter

I'm guessing that Ember can't just roll Arcana and Occultism and wrack up some extra party research points at this junction?

I think we are waiting for the GM. However, it is the holiday season so nothing much will happen until after new years. Most likely.

Re: OoC Chatter

Welp, since the GM hasn't logged in since November, I guess this game is dead. I will be removing it from my stickies, but let me know if it starts up again.

Happy Gaming y'all.
