Part 2: still Amsterdam

An hour or so later, you are gathered again in a safe place that you use sometimes, together with the young attacker who you captured at the park.  He is conscious, unless you've taken steps to change that.  Outside it's the middle of the afternoon; in here that might not be apparent, depending on where you are and what precautions you have taken.

So where are you right now?  And what exactly are you doing with your hostage?

In reply to Director (msg # 1):

On the way here, our young friend will have been blindfolded and given a mild sedative so that he can't process where we're at. Once here, we'll treat him well, though he will still be secured. Feed him dinner and get friendly.

16:33, Today: Rob Zwartnacht rolled 2 using 4 Fudge dice ((1, 0, 0, 1)). +3 for empathy to create advantage "Friendly and relaxed"

Rob's strategy pays off.  Drugs, snacks, and maybe a little bit of a attention to both his physical injuries and his wounded pride, and your hostage seems to be in a much more malleable mood.  It'll still take some finesse to get him to spill anything sensitive, but you've laid a great foundation at least.

NPC unnamed hostage rolled 1 using 4 Fudge dice.  resisting Rob's friendly treatment (+1).
-total of 2 vs Rob's 5 means Rob gets a success with style --> your team now gets 2 free invokes on Friendly and Relaxed (and you can still spend Fate points to use it more than that if you feel the need to).

Rob brings the prisoner a cup of strong coffee.

"Whoever you're involved with is into some bad stuff. We'd like to help you but we need to know why you were there to grab us today. We can protect you, but we need to know who we're protecting you from."

20:51, Today: Rob Zwartnacht rolled 1 using 4 Fudge dice ((0, 1, 1, -1)). (+2 for manipulation, Overcome to get the prisoner to spill. Will use invokes if needed)

Director, for the NPC unnamed hostage, rolled 2 using 4 Fudge dice.  Resist interrogation (+1).
-that's a total of 3, against Rob's total of 3.  I'm assuming you would rather have a solid success than a tie, so use one of the free invokes on Friendly and Relaxed and that puts you over the top.  So...

The young man gives you some shifty responses at first, but in his relaxed state he accidentally lets slip that he is with FSB, and once you and he both realize that he said it you find it much easier to get what you want from him.

"It's funny, you want to know who I am getting involved with your job, but that's exactly why we're here.  Your team interfered with something my people were doing, so we were assigned to tail you and find out who you are.  Or bring you in and find out who you are.

So who are you people, anyway?"

He thinks about it for a minute and eventually replies cautiously "We had a person of interest coming in from out of town.  I think you might have been interested in the same person, but I don't know why.  And before you ask, no, I don't know why my people were interested in him.  My orders are only 'need to know,' just like yours."

"I don't know, that was someone else's operation.  My team is surveillance, I guess for him they wanted, eh, more than surveillance."

He gives you all a big smile and then adds "Come on, let's be fair now - I have told you so much, you can answerat least one question for me now."

In reply to Director (msg # 9):

Rob chuckles. "We're just your average security consultants and today just errand runners, really. What I don't understand is your team lead made us as secure types and still thought we'd cooperate going along with people using strongarm tactics. We gave you all plenty of time to make peaceable contact, so really, I don't get the thinking. I'm sorry if anyone got hurt, though."

In reply to Evelyn Shepard (msg # 12):

"I'll tell you what, since you've been honest with us, and nobody here wants to hurt anyone, let's have a little chat about us stumbliing into you surveillance operation. Seems like you have an interest in the Germans, but that's always true for Russia, no, but today you're out in force as boots on the ground."

ooc: we know the Germans weren't the real surveillance Target so Rob's trying to get him to slip and give us something we don't know. do I need a manipulation roll?

Manipulation does make sense here.  I'll roll for you to save time if that's okay.

Director, on behalf of Rob Zwartnacht, rolled 3 using 4 Fudge dice.  Manipulation +2.
Director, for the NPC hostage, rolled -3 using 4 Fudge dice.  Resist interrogation (+1).

Total of +5 vs -2.  That's a sufficiently high victory that I'm going to dispense with the game mechanics and just say you've got him pretty much under your control for the time being without needing to roll more for this scene.  Unless someone wants to move things in a drastically different direction, anyway.

"Well, interest in one particular German at least, but that was before you came along.  So now here you are, and someone needs to know who you are, and well... here we are.  So listen, even without taking you, my people know that you all know how to handle yourselves, and they're not going to like that.  What can I tell them so they will know you're not really a threat?"
