A Q-ship in the form of a Subsidized Merchant? May be... I can make it non-stealthy in order to pass as a merchant but it can have a stealthy ship boat. No passengers anyway, because it can compromise that the ship is a Q-ship.

In reply to Danila (msg # 862):

I believe that MGT 1s supplement 'Merchants and Cruisers' has an example of a subsidized merchant converted into a Q-ship. You can certainly improve on the design. With advanced EW could you spoof a stealth ship into having a 'normal ' sensor profile of the standard civilian ship?

Edit: correction the Q-ship is in 'Traders and Gunboats'

That's question for GM. Nerull?

I guess you can with a good role. If all else fails.

Maybe we'll do Secrets of the Ancients next, or move spinward, what do you think? We cut this one a little short, but it also isn't over, getting Bennerj and the Wolblutn shouldn't take too long, there is the Mammoth, or let them to the authorities.

Both sound they could be fun. As for Bannerji and the Wolbutn instead of killing or arresting him if we were sneak up to his ship with the stealth ship and remotely hack his computer copy useful information and leave backdoor and viruses to track him could he lead us to the Mammoth and the leaders of the conspiracy?

We have the itinerary which could be unrelated, but seems to lead to where the meson gun was to be delivered. There's definately some connection, but we can't nail it down. I'm all for gathering intel directly from Wolbutn if we can...

Fantastic design, Danila player ! :)
The ISS could, say, lend it to us;
then we look for the Wolbutn with it,
and depending on what happens, either we keep it to tail the Wolbutn, or we give it back and...

The ship that Nerull has presented us presents us with a an opportunity to adventure in game with new capabilities and to travel to a larger potion of the charted space and beyond. (...) We as players would need to embrace the bigger opportunities ...

I think you're over-optimistic ;) Let's focus and finish this adventure first and foremost, and once it's under our belt, we'll be happy to consider other venues :)

Working on a Q-ship design (inspired by the Q-ship in MGT1 "Traders and Gunboats").
How compromising would be a barbette or a small bay installed on a Fat Trader? :)

Andrew Steward Copeland:

RAW there is no such option, however, the opposite was never stated too.
I don't understand why pop-up version is ever needed, for example, for missiles: if one wants to hide its missile he can simply place it inside the ship and close the bay, like modern missile silos on destroyers, and more than that - one can fire them all at once. Grumble-grumble.

Andrew Steward Copeland:

I didn't see it in MGT2, but my Q-ship will be better! ;)

Re: Out of town

OK, here is my proposal.

The concept of this ship is described by an old joke: "The most dangerous enemy is a runner. If he is stronger, you will not run away from him; and if he is weaker, you will not catch up with him."

Indeed, very few dedicated warships can catch up with this Q-ship. The ship is disguised as a regular Subsidized Merchant, but whoever tries to attack it will be very surprised. The ship is designed to quickly get close to the target and do it up close and personal: four pop-up triple turrets with rapid-fire plasma cannons. Long range is for the weak in spirit! But wait, there's more. Electronic countermeasures, advanced sensors and software, thick armor. The Corsair, with its pathetic laser turrets, won't even scratch the paint. At the same time, the ship is within a reasonable TL14, and all systems are civilian grade (no particle beams and nuclear weapons). However, even TL14 is a serious problem for repairs in this sector (maybe that's why the Scout Service on Aramanx wants to dump this problem on us, lol). This ship can even be used for trading! With a minimum fuel supply of 1 parsec, the ship can carry 85 tons of cargo. Of course, there are collapsible tanks there, which, if necessary, will increase the range of the ship to 3 parsecs. The ship actually has Jump-2, but this capability can only be realized with drop tanks, so consider it as a Jump-1 mostly.

I didn't put a stealth coating on the ship as it would make it VERY expensive, but the ship has a small 20 ton boat, and the boat has an advanced stealth system (and advanced sensors). The boat, in turn, is also well armed and protected and can successfully fulfill the role of a heavy - but fast - fighter. The boat can also carry 8 people - not counting the pilot and gunner - for infiltration missions.

Re: Out of town

Love the Q-boat design. For some reason the cute white rabbit from 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' comes to mind(I have a plush of the rabbit on my computer desk). The converted SDB is still  a fun concept.

The mystery background could be fun. With the Q-ship could have it's mysteries also. Perhaps the ship could been in a dry dock by the ISS (perhaps impounded
And forgotten). Oberlindes, who originally increased their fleet by acquiring surplus navy ships  and somehow  wound part of a mass purchase from the Navy. LSP could have made this ship for a long forgotten  This ship could have been forgotten, or may have been misfiled for a reason.

The 200 ton chameleon could be used for the mission and I could work with the either ship.
