Re: OOC Thread

Not to pile on the critiques, but are they/were they moving at half speed AND is everyone, even those not affected, spending 10' per square because of Entangle's difficult terrain? And the radius on the map looks like 30', not 40'.

Re: OOC Thread

Oh wait, does the Entangled condition stack with the difficult terrain?  So it takes quadruple movement for those that failed the save and double for those that didn't?  That would change things.  The first time I read that, I thought it was referring to the same thing, but now I see it could be different.

Re: OOC Thread

Yes, half movement from the entanglement and difficult terrain from the spell are different things that in effect stack doubly. Also, though not relevant here, terrain effects that hamper movement (Difficult Terrain, Obstacles, Poor Visibility) don't follow the stacking multipliers rules of most d20 and do stack multiplicatively. So 5' under all 3 conditions costs 40'.

In reply to Saviae Aessildais (msg # 154):

I'm wondering now if I've ever played that spell correctly.  I guess in 5e, the spells restrains creatures if they fail the save, and makes it difficult terrain, so it's a little different.

Re: OOC Thread

In reply to DM (msg # 155):

Like I mentioned earlier, I find it odd that the entangle effect doesn't anchor them and somehow stays on them when they leave the area. I've always seen it interpreted to anchor them--meaning they need to break the entanglement to even be able to leave the area. But the spell apparently doesn't say that explicitly.

Of course, Entangle is clearly a really strong spell and would probably be a first pick even if it were 3rd level...

Re: OOC Thread

I -just- realized, despite being both an Elf and a Magus and it being listed clearly on my CS, Saviǣ is not actually proficient with a longbow. XD Luckily I suspect the -4 Attack doesn't change the results of her attacks so far.

Well, with the quadruple movement cost on a failed save, you can only move 15' with a double move.  So anyone within 25' of the center of the spell who fails the save will be trapped for at least a full turn, and even if you make the save, if you're withing 10', you're still trapped for a full turn.  That's a pretty powerful spell that can rob someone of an entire turn - maybe a turn and most of their move on the next - for just one action.  In terms of action economy, it's basically the same as sleep, though the fluff is different.

Re: OOC Thread

There's a bit in the description of entangle where it says "you can't move if you're entangled by an immovable object or unbreakable force" but I don't think plants qualify as that.

Re: OOC Thread

I’ve never played Entangle as anchoring the affected creatures, at least not in 3ed or PF.
But yes, difficult terrain and entangled condition stack, and the entangled condition I think only remains until the end of your turn once you leave the area.

Re: OOC Thread

GM, I’ve assumed we can reroll ones on Cure spells, is this ok with you?

If so the CLW on Saviæ should bring her back to consciousness.

Where is that from? I've never heard of that rule.

Is that a common house rule?  I've never heard it either.

I've seen it a couple times before, but I wouldn't call it common.

In any case, I have CLW and two remaining slots, so I can heal Saviae if she needs more.

I've also seen a house rule to maximize cure spells outside of combat ... just sayin'...

Re: OOC Thread

I thought it was quite common to reroll ones on cure spells.
I think it started with tabletop and GMs just feeling bad when someone spent an spell curing 2 measly hp.
Either way, let me know if that’s not applicable here, Saviae will just heal 2 hp from my spell and can receive some more from Thurak.

Re: OOC Thread

Having healing be improved, maybe even maximized outside of combat makes some sense.  (Though if someone has Maximize we'll have to think of something else!)  I do like keeping the randomness in combat.

I don't think we need to worry about anyone being sad if healing is maximized outside of combat regardless of whether anyone takes maximize.

No one takes maximize with the intent to metamagic healing.  By the time someone's throwing level 4 spells, they're probably gonna go cure crit for 4d8+7 (avg 25) rather than using the same slot to maximize a lv 1 for a straight 13.

Ach, sorry.  Been a busy week at work.  And 2/3 of my kids went back to 2-days a week in-person schooling after being out for almost a year!

Since Saviǣ was busy being stabbed to death when it happened, I'll leave it to someone else to bring up the bandit who fled...

Ah, work keeps killing me.  We always have fits and starts, but I had to spend a couple days actually *in the office* and our firewall prevents access to RPOL.

Re: OOC Thread

How about horses? The bandits that came to Oleg's were all mounted, are there any in the camp?
