Too bad he isn't a kenku. We could go around making places smell like fried chicken.

In reply to Jackal Japes (msg # 13):

That made me recall that time a group I was in had a kenku Bard with a mild southern accent who used a trumpet and spells that made fog or smoke.

Took a long time for us to pick up on the Foghorn Leghorn joke.

Similarly I was in a Star Wars game and nobody caught the joke of the character name Bade Briskely until he became a Jedi master and someone put the Master title before his name.

Just so long as we don't have to wear a disguise to go down in the woods because you're having a secret picnic you didn't invite us to we'll be fine. I don't want the surprise that you're hanging out with your friends and having a lovely time without us.

Might be running two groups since there's a lot of interest. Sad there's not a lot of GMs for this system. Maybe not a lot of site users have picked it up that also GM things.

Greetings all. Glad to be here. Shoony investigator here. Forensic Medicine type with my free archetype being Medic. So, gonna be throwing out some beefy Battle Medicine and Treat Wounds. Going to be putting a fair amount of focus on that, though I won't be a slouch in a scrap.

Shame I can't find any pug portraits though. This will have to do I guess.

Yeah, I'm probably slotting that in at level 6 since I'd need at least a 10 prof bonus to get the bonus healing from my archetype with Assurance. Maybe sooner since at level 4 I could at least auto-succeed on most stabilize attempts. We'll see how things go though.

Thinking on it, I really wish there was an Investigator feat that let them use Devise a Stratagem on a Medicine check. Kinda like doing an exam before treating. It makes sense in theory, but maybe that would make them a little too good at healing?

I could see that maybe being the case if it were too early in progression and in a game without that house rule of fails don't immune people to a different person's tries. You could DaS, see you'd roll a 1 or 2, then just wait out a timer or tell someone else to do Treat Wounds instead. That would be handy.

Indeed. Hello everyone!

I'll be playing a teddy bear magically brought to life. (but statwise just a leaf leshy because my cotton stuffing has been made alive again like a plant)

I intend to do the care bear stare. I was thinking bard/champion, unless one of the new classes would do that better. Anyhoo...

Yeah I think Julius will be the oddball among us by proxy of being the only one who is not extremely odd...

Re: OOC Chat

@Gm the Dm, is there a preferred character sheets for this game? I'm trying to organize this and that for Vynyc and wanted to make sure it ended up in the right form.

Also, just realized almost all of the animal companions available to Vynyc aren't suitable for a mount. That was going to be my shtick.

Re: OOC Chat

You can use anything I can read. Even off site sheets. Personally I dislike on site text sheets from a player perspective as they are often really fiddly to enter stuff into while maintaining the spacing of everything.

And while they won't have the mount quality, you can ride on anything at least one size larger than you, are there no medium ones? I'm not at home to check smoothly.

If there is a medium one I would let you use it as a mount. Tabletop rpgs are all about fun and that's not unbalanced or anything.

Re: OOC Chat

Horses are the only PHB animal companions that are Medium or Large. Advanced Players Guide adds riding drake, Pathfinder #154: Siege of the Dinosaurs adds monitor lizard, and  Pathfinder #149: Against the Scarlet Triad has the camel. All of them have the mount quality.

Here I was just picturing a simple wolf. :)

I remember having the same issue when I wanted to make a goblin champion. It's unfortunate they haven't changed that in the final version.

Re: OOC Chat

In that case just take the wolf and make it rideable by you without any other changes. Or whatever believable animal you wanna ride.

It won't unbalance anything. :)

Re: OOC Chat

Looking forward to proceedings. Should have the last bit of stuff done on my sheet by tomorrow.

As a side note it's refreshing starting out with my defining class feature at level 1. While it isn't as major as DnD 5e subclass stuff; on a conceptual level I dislike having to wait til 3 to get the option that defines my special way of doing things.

1-2 (less so on casters) in 5e always feels like playing a prequel to me.

Re: OOC Chat

Oh I feel ya there. Though I'm the kinda guy that picks classes to play based on their subclass or archetype option.

So 5e is like "Yay, I can't wait to be 3rd level so I can be mah class!"

There's some merit in a lower power image start, and I enjoy 5e, but I prefer Pathfinder scaling where even 1st level adventurers are a bit special by proxy of the events that set them out to begin with. DND 5e is kinda 1st level ranger is a talented hunter/woodsman. Pathfinder 1st level ranger? You're not just a woodsman you're a ranger.

Re: OOC Chat

Though honestly I think both could stand to take a moment and throw down a small book to address the big Achilles heel in their systems, which is coincidentally the same thing: feat support.

Right now 2e is very heavily slanted towards options in the class feat slot while there's a noteworthy lack of variety in general and skill feats. Some skills don't even have feats beyond 7th level.

Meanwhile 5e feats are an optional system literally everyone uses and there are barely any non-UA ones. Legit the feat support is so bad there's not usuable feat support to augment a Rogue using Theives Tools. Seriously why is the only Burglar themed feat (named that) terrible on a rogue?

Re: OOC Chat

I was just noting that little oddity myself the other day. In order for it do anything for the rogue they have to not take Expertise in those tools at the first chance they get and instead wait til 4th to get it since the benefits of that feat do not stack with Expertise.
