Re: Ooc

Little is known about Charge's normal ID. However her Hero ID has some renown to it. Villain's tend to underestimate her because they just see a normal looking black her attractive girl with a pair of marbles in her hand. It's when she sends her powers into the small metalic flakes inside the marbles things get interesting.

Hey Nightshade, I assume it's the same Nightshade I played with you with in Quoza's other games where I played Michelle?

Re: Ooc

I didn't want to play Michelle here because I already have a version of her on rPol in another game. I did propose Charge and Marie (Mind Dagger) for this game though and Quoza liked Charge.

I think you might of been in a game I used Marie in before way WAY back in the Hero Central days.

I believe there's a Sharpshooter in another game I'm currently in, although it is one that seems to be fading.

In reply to Steel Sevent (msg # 43):

Perhaps, but Flicker is mostly speedster and your moniker suggests the character is mostly technology.

I think I played with Nightshade in an old RPoL Champions game. I think I was playing either Tantrum or Nighthawk in that game.

Re: Ooc

Nightshade looks a little familiar to me, i think we might have played together in another game where i was playing Solaria?

It was the first time i played Solaria and a lot of fun, but the game master had way too many players to manage so i declined the campaign after a few days.

Hopefully, better luck here.  Barbie has been a work in progress for me for a while now, but this is the first time i'm actually roleplaying her.

btw, strange question this is but, does Night Shade have arms?  The picture makes it look like you have wings in place of arms, though they might just be covered by the wings too so it's hard to say.

Re: Ooc

Hmm...

Madam Eventide, you already posted the character sheet so it shouldn't be a huge breach of privacy to request for you to post it 'here'.

The reason i'm requesting this, is because it would make it notably easier to clone the code with a copy/paste of the character sheet here (to be modified).  You can't copy paste the code  used on a character description.

Tunneling is an interesting power with some interesting utility use.

My only thought on Eventide was that her Presence doesnt change when she Get Huge.  I would certainly listen to someone that was 6'7, but I would certainly pay more attention and be inclined to listen to someone that was 50'+ tall.

I would also point out that Just getting huge cost her 6 end to maintain, add another six for her force field, and that's 12 end, just... standing around.  Making an attack with all that strength is another 7 end.  That's... 19 endurance used in one phase.  She only has 31 endurance, so... she'll be good all out for 1 and a half phases.  2 1/2 if she's just standing around soaking damage and not attacking.

This is your character, and you're obviously free to develop as you see fit, but as a fellow player, i thought you wouldn't mind some observations.  It's worth noting that you're only 282 character points in a 300~350 point campaign, so you have room to work in a few more disadvantages to gather some points for a reduced end cost here and there, or just some extra endurance to improve your duration in combat.

Re: Ooc

Howdy.

It's been many years since I've played Champions.  That eval Barbie just gave Eventide looks really helpful to work out a characters vision with how it would play out in the game.

I might need that kind of review to get back up to speed on the math portion of things.

Re: Ooc

I've was introduced to champions way back when.

I've also game mastered a game or two, so i'm working with the insight of a player who wants to role play a 'concept' and not be totally useless in combat, while understanding the concerns of the game masters desire to keep a character from being broken and ruining the campaign.

Player concept is a personal thing, and really shouldnt be messed with.  A player should always play what makes you happy, cause we all join this campaign for the happiness that a fun campaign brings, this is a personal call that someone else shouldn't judge harshly.

What is considered 'broken' and a no-no in the campaign, is also subjective to what exactly the game master wants to deal with, or deems appropriate for his campaign.  Again.  Not something anyone should meddle with but the game master.

So the one place a social sharing can help with is the observation of blinding weakness you might not see yourself, or the sharing of thoughts on how the characters interact.

I'll go on the record to admit that I thought Barbie might have felt a little under powered for a 300-350 point character campaign, but i think she compares favorably to Eventide.  She can't take damage the way Eventide can, but Barbie won't start feeling dizzy from using her powers after 8 seconds either (3 phases of activity for a speed five character).  If Eventide is going to have a such a short duration of activity, she should consider a power limitation that states her powers can only be turned on for a short period of time to get something out of it.

My personal rule of the thumb is, that the character should be able to stand around with their powers turned on, and the Endurance use from these powers should not exceed the Recovery of the character.

The reason for this, is that a character can opt 'reduce' their speed to one, and as such, maintain a 'zero' endurance use for having their powers on when not in combat.

ie.  (Not to pick on her, but because she's the only character we can all see)

Eventide has a Recovery of 6.  So out of combat, when she's just loitering around, we can presume she's 'normal sized' and has her full force field in effect, or she's really large with no force field, or maybe half strength of both.

This is actually not a terrible thing, if she's not in combat i dont see her being 'huge' and out of combat you can presume her force field is not in full effect, and perhaps be at 'half strength'.  If the character is 'resting' to recover end she can maintain a high speed (for reaction) out of combat, so the game mechanics support her powers at a minimal use out of combat, but ... just barely and the moment she gets into a fight her ability to stay in it is going to drop off dramatically.

A couple of possible solutions might be to reduce the power of the force field, and take End Reduction cost for the power.

Changing Mental Defense and Power Defense out of force field for 'Mental Defense' and 'Power Defense', reduce the end cost for those defenses to 'zero', making it easier to maintain the force field, and creating space in active powers to purchase reduced end for force field.

The cost structure of Growth is a little tricky, and the math makes it harder to reduce the endurance cost without losing effectiveness, so the only way to reduce the cost here is to use the power at reduced levels to manage the endurance.

Any ways... that's my thoughts on improving the performance of Eventide with minimal intrusion on the current character... oh...  At level 4 growth you're at -8 dcv, so that 4 dcv, becomes a -4 DCV, you're really hard to miss.  So whatever skill levels you get, you might as well focus on making it.   If you martial dodge, you bring it up to dcv... 1.  This is not a great martial skill for her, though Block is really groovy in that you're using OCV.  Combat level or two could go a long way to make up for that OCV of 4 might be good to help this along.

A general +1 HTH combat skill is 5 points, a +1 OCV for all HTH skills is only 3  (That's a third of the cost for improving dex for the ocv).  You can also consider taking +1 with martial skills, for the same cost of 3 points you limit the bonus to your martial skills, but now you can use them for OCV or DCV, which would improve that dodge, so that your dcv improves to something better than 1 when you dodge.  The everyman civilian on the street has a dcv of 3, while not dodging.

I'm NOT picking on Eventide, just... trying to be constructive about some suggestions.  I will have zero feelings hurt if they ignore it all and play as is.  She is your character and you should be happy playing your character.  Just... .don't get offended or presume i'm being mean, i'm really not.

Mac, if you want my suggestions you can ask my opinion in private, but if you do it here, you can here other players thoughts besides mine which might be good?

I'm done with Barbie, but her current format is a little involved, mostly to show how i calculated power cost and what not, to make it easy for the game master to see how i got the cost.  If/when i have Eventides format to work with, i'll post her here for others to review too.

Barbie:

That's just a sample character.  I made it by clicking random options in Hero Designer and posted it to show the format I was using.  If you want it for the character sheet format, you could certainly use it (though you'll probably want to manually add some spaces to it).

Sample Character: https://docs.google.com/docume...Ctk/edit?usp=sharing

HDE code (just paste it into a text file with a .hde extension): https://docs.google.com/docume...gMo/edit?usp=sharing

Madam Eventide, the character, is a darkness-based energy projector and generally better built ;)  She's a re-imagining of a character concept I played in a teen game on HeroCentral way back when (2002, apparently, was when I started with her).  I don't even recall the hero name she went with back then.

Re: Ooc

Okay, I just sent my second draft. As I'm new to both HERO System and RP ing with dice i apologise in advance for any inconveniences. Same with the fact that I'm dead broke and my only manuals are 6e.

Well, currently I'm building a Gadgeteer/Power Suit guy heavily oriented to skills, and therefore, also heavily oriented to limitations in powers. My politics for when I build a character is to go overboard and then strip down the character from there. And... Well, maybe i gave my boy too many skills, so i may be cutting from there first.

By the way hello everyone.

Updated my description to give you all a look at Sharpshooter's build. I usually have a lot more skill levels, but PSLs do the trick without exceeding GM guidelines.

Also, Steel Sevent? Is that name right? Or was it supposed to be Steel Servant, Steel Serpent, or Steel Seven?

Also, I was at Pacificon when Champions was debuted, and picked up the first book. Wish I still had it, for nostalgia's sake. I even picked up a couple of character sketches from HERO artist Scott Ruggles that I still have.

Mr. MacDonald. I'll have to get back with you.

Normally. I read the ooc
Then I read and reply to the private messages. Which takes half an hour.
Then I usually read the ooc again and more messages

Then I go over the character details of those I haven't approved yet (another half hour at the least)

Only the do I read the replies to the game.   Sometimes I don't get to that.

Please be patient and understanding with me.  I try my best and often check on the game again during the day.
