2. Someone tried to get justice for your murder, but failed to lay your soul to rest. They owe you a Debt.
3. Someone has already come to rely on you and your powers. Ask them what unique need you fill. They owe you two Debts.

3) Someone bears responsibility for you becoming a vampire. They owe you a Debt.

I could take one or these both from Amanita:

2. Someone tried to get justice for your murder, but failed to lay your soul to rest. They owe you a Debt.

The first one would be interesting, as it implies either a personal relationship or that Lilith was all wrapped up in the crime family that killed her family.

If we went with a personal relationship, perhaps something Amanita did as a mortal caused Lilith to become a Vampire?

As Jake became tainted after something awful happened to him when he was human, he made the deal for vengence he has yet to gain. As he does not want to see other people wind up like him, even if demonic patrons are not involved in your case, he may have tired to put you to rest. In fact, if Jake killed the person who killed you-it ended up causing you to be trapped as a restless spirit because Jake screwed up. You came back to get your vengence, but now you cant...

Lilith, as Jake is involved with a lot of supernatural goings on, he might have hooked you up with some willing blood dolls. He knows a guy who knows a guy...

Carmen might have had a dire prophecy about Jake...before he made a deal with his demonic patron. Maybe you tired to warn him, but he did not belive in the supernatural back then.

Conversely, you could be trying to figure a way to get Jake redeemed somehow. Of course, he's not very helpful  on that matter.

I think that's all of our new people. I'm glad everybody's getting along so well. I'm also going to create threads for each faction. Mortality, power, night, and Wild so that you can hopefully divided up these conversations a little bit more. Otherwise, a single out-of-character thread tends to get hard to follow.

For the first one I'm thinking one of the less combat oriented archetypes would be a good fit. So perhaps The Aware, or The Oracle? For the other debts, I'm open to whoever volunteers.

Lilith knows what revenge is. Blood for blood. She's a Private Detective and has some access to police resources (guns, confiscated things, you name it).

A friendship between a Hunter and a Vamp? Considering your past, it sounds like a good fairy tale :)) But why not?

Maybe Lilith keeps Jessica well equipped, and supplied? Jessica could see it as a necessary evil. She spares one vamp, but in doing so she can hunt other more dangerous monsters.

Maybe someone from the 'old country' came looking for you to bring you back to your fae king/queen? Ether Jake could have been asked to deal with that person, and killed them, which kept you here on earth, or he failed to kill them but it kept you off thier radar for now.

Jessica, this is a possiblity:

What might have happen is that another demonic patron may have targeted you for death. My patron wanted you to stay alive as it weakened him  to keep you around. While you may not like it, Having Jake pitch in was useful.

Sure! What is Jake doing? Bringing willing people to Lilith or just their blood in a bottle?

Samael came to mortal world effectively because of his family's failed political scheme, though publicly (to the Fae, not everyone in NY) he was accused of a crime too. Which he totally did, but would not usually be grounds for this much of a punishment.

It might very well be that someone was sent after Samael, either because the punishment was not enough in someone's books, or perhaps to capitalize the opportunity when Samael was less protected. How is you debt tally looking? I am one a slightly winning side, so I do not mind being indebted to you, but how are you doing?

Well, I would think if you are the type of vamp who can do bottled blood you would not really need anyone other than blood bank donations.

Your corruption is based on unwilling victims, so I figure Jake has contacts with people who run a semi prostitution ring, but for vamps. Thus keeping the people involved all willing, with regular health check ups and medical screening. Basically the Vegas model of sex worker healthcare.

Samael, I am not sure on my debt tally because everything has not been totally worked with the other PCs. Dont worry about it. What works better for your backstory?

Lets say you succeeded. I think I will have enough of trouble without adding some here. Samael owes you 1, because you helped him get rid of a Fae hitman, who chased Samael soon after he had arrived to NY.

Wow! This all is really forming up. I have at least two characters who have handle/have handled my violent confrontations, oracle to ponder visions with and a Vamp who stashed somehting with me. All I need is someone who broke a promise and I am good to go. Gotta love this games character creation!

Actually, this is how she stores the emergency rations in her Haven. But even those need to be replenished from time to time.
A blood bank is out of question. She does not have a contact in there (maybe Jake does?) and it would be odd to go there too often and ask for blood.
If you like your idea with having hookers as contacts more, I'm fine with that. Considering the above, my question stands: bottled blood from hookers or "flesh and blood" willing hookers?

I figure these people are full on sex workers with the instructions that some of thier clients have exotic tastes and the need for privacy. But there are no such things are real vampires, right?

Of course, some vamps who end up killing these sex workers are delt with by the vamp community, although not nearly as harshly as a hunter would.

To keep her cravings in check Lilith already uses Tinder if there is no other option available. Using Tinder won't mean that she will always find willing victims.
I think the point of this debt is to have a supply which won't make Lilith mark corruption. That's why the only two choices i see are: bottled blood or willing victim.

Basically Gigi is a convenience store employee who had a not so good whirlwind relationship with a vampire "illicit goods" dealer that ended with his slaying. Now she is embroiled in making good on some of his dealings, how much by her choice remains to be seen.

Okay, my backstory is now up in my Description. Basically her parents were killed by gangsters and she and her siblings were burned to death in a restaurant.

Here's where I stand:

-Lilith has offered this one, and I'm completely on board. It's possible that Lilith was tangentially involved in/around/near the crime family that killed her family, and they had some kind of relationships.

2. Someone tried to get justice for your murder, but failed to lay your soul to rest. They owe you a Debt.
-Jake offered this one. What if Jake went after the guy who killed her, to avenge her death, but got turned aside? Maybe he was made an offer he accepted. Maybe his Demon made him. Or some other loyalty got in the way?

3. Someone has already come to rely on you and your powers. Ask them what unique need you fill. They owe you two Debts.
-No one yet. Anyone want to be dependent on a vengeful spirit?

I've lost a little track of who's claimed what for everyone else, but here's some ideas:

Samael:
You entrusted someone with a dangerous task. Ask them if they succeeded or failed. If they succeeded, you owe them a Debt. If they failed, they owe you 2 Debts.
-Is this one taken? It's possible that Sam got himself in some kind of trouble with bad guys, and Amanita agreed to help? Or he appealed to her compassion to help someone he cared about?

Jessica:
You consider someone a friend even though the friendship keeps bringing you trouble. They owe you a Debt.
-Certainly Amanita's friendship would be nothing but trouble, as she's a barely restrained engine of murder and she (presumably) has a whole crime family after her.

Awesome! I have an idea. One of the gangsters contacted my Private Detective services for one member of your family (maybe they owed some $$ to the gang). I had to follow that member, write his/her schedule, where he/she lives, etc. I didn't know that the gangsters would kill all the family as a result. I'm deeply sorry as I'm trying really hard not to kill innocent people. What do you think?

Maybe Lilith helped Gigi get rid of the evidence that was pointing her to her ex or to some of the stolen goods? Any other ideas?
Also, I was looking over your debts, and I like this one: Someone thinks they’re protecting you, but it’s really more like you’re protecting them. You owe each other a Debt. A vamp can have a lot of ways to protect you (including the above suggestion), what about the other way around?

@Gigi: Would you be interested in the debt quoted above? It seems that it might fit your story to have made a promise to a Fae, which you ultimately ended up failing, because you did not understand the importance or oaths to Fae back then. Might not be a bad thing to owe debt to every other supernatural critter out there, because all the easier to collect knowledge for yourself as well.

Considering how the debt is formulated, I think we need to know each other. Maybe I met you at the cemetery when you came back, as I was crying over your grave? Could this be possible? It would make sense to me (since you owe me a debt for my sorrows). If I ever told you that I was involved with the gang or not, it's up to you. But if I haven't told you, then I needed a pretty good reason to cry over your grave (suggestions for lies?). I'm sure Amanita would ask why is Lilith there.

Perhaps I have had some sort of premonition that your search for who killed Vlad is going to put you on a path to greatness, so I'm helping with that. Being able to predict who will do well in an election might make you finding your politician a bit easier...

The only thing Lilith knows about him is that he has a V shaped wound (about 15 cm) on the left side of his back. Carmen saw the V shape in Bronx, in one of her visions, and decided to tell Lilith about it.

I am not possessed per say, I am just demonic now. However, my Patron could have mysterious motives in wanting you to remain on earth, and thus interfered when I was about to avenge your death. Thus insuring your murderer lives on...

No doubt the wolves and the tainted do not get along, as the tainted tend to violate 'territory'. However, Jake could be deliberately not mentioning you to his patron in order to conceal your presence.

Carmen is on the run from the gang that smuggled her into the US. Maybe she hired you to scare them off when they came sniffing around?

alright, so Lillith lives in my territory under my protection. I like that. Okay and Jake is hiding me from his patron for reasons undecided as yet.

@Lilith: Definitely want a connection with a vampire considering her past dealing with that particular creature of the night. I think I like 'Someone thinks they’re protecting you, but it’s really more like you’re protecting them'. Maybe the vampire slayer that killed her ex has been snooping around and Gigi has made sure he doesn't know about Lilith.

@Jake: I kind of like the dangerous angle of Gigu leveraging (or trying to leverage) dirt over someone whose already essentially made a deal with the devil.

@Carmen: I would love to have a terrible prophecy about Gigi. It gives her something to try to maneuver around. Partly something to be afraid of and maybe to have an unearned sense of power. "I know this so that means I can be a step ahead on it... right?"

@Samuel: Makes sense to me. I can totally see her making promises and trying to keep all these deals up in the air until she can really learn enough to get her footing  and position as someone who shouldn't just be a victim.

Debts as of now:

Gigi Deshmukh:
Gigi is leveraging something against Jake to get his help. Due to her investigations, she knows Jake's real name is Marcus Brody. Which is weird, because Marcus died in prison years ago, jailed for shooting at cops. As a result, while Jake will play ball, she owes him a debt.

Amanita Jezra
-Jake found one of the members Al Saddiq after finding out Amanita was killed by them. Knowing the high price for vengeance in the afterlife, Jake thought that if he murdered the man Amanita would find peace. However, the Demonic Patron known as the Inquisitor forced Jake to stand down for reasons only known to it. He feels intense guilt, and owes her a debt.

Carmen Martinez
Carmen had a vision of something horrible happening to Marcus Brody. However, he did not listen to her warning as he only believed in the mundane world. Even as Jake accidentally ran into her later, she recognized him despite his new face and voice. She also had a vision of the creature he had become, and now has sworn to bring him back to the light...somehow. Jake feels intensely guilty about all this, and fails to convince her to give up on him. He owes her 2 debts.


Lilith Voss
A few years ago, Jake found the ever-hungry Lilith in need of a new blood source. Jake has worked out a deal with a few guys from a blood bank, and often works out a way for local vamps to get blood. Granted its not the whole vamp population, but he figured it would be better for the locals so Lilith does not get hungry. She owes him two debts.

Jessica Addams
Jessica had many enemies other than vampires. One of them was a demon patron called Wrathborn. However, Wrathborn's goals seemed to be opposed by Jake's patron the Inquisitor. As a result, he instructed Jake to help Jessica. As one could imagine, she is not thrilled to have a demonic creature like Jake helping her out...she owes Jake a debt.

Samael Thornglade
Having escaped from the Fae World, Samael was being hunted by the equivalent by a fae bounty hunter. Samael could sense Jake was more than he appeared, and 'hired' Jake to protect him. Jake agreed, not really understanding what he was getting into. Despite that, Jake managed to defeat the thing, and Samael got to remain in this world...for now. He owes Jake a debt.

Tori
The Wolves are supposed to guard their territory from unnatural creatures that break into this world. As a result, enough demons have banded together to try and kill any wolves they find...and visa versa. When Jake stumbled across Tori, he decided to lie by omission about her location. He does not know how long he can hide her, but he understands and respects what she does...and wishes he could. She owes him a debt.

Sounds good to me! BUT why would Lilith be a target for the vampire slayer (the hunter who killed Gigi's ex)? I think we need to define his personality or his interests (the MC would use this for sure :)) )

I'm going to create the first in-character thread now. I doubt that the entire crew of you will be required for this job. The ones who aren't included will have another job to do.

If we were a little liberal about the definition of 'fix' I could see Lilith providing Amanita some kind of emotional support that she comes to rely on. Is Lilith maternal at all? Neets was pretty young and lived with her parents and was really wrapped up in her family, so she would feel really empty and alone and adrift, aside from everything else..

Like, maybe she comes over every few days or whatever and Lilith holds her and lets her cry it out?

I believe it could also mean a sentimental 'fix', but are you sure you want to owe me another debt?

It's fine with me, all in all. In for a penny, in for a pound.

But I can also understand if you'd rather spread your Debts around a little.

Overall I have contacts with everyone so far.

Okay, two things that keep coming up.

1. You, the player behind the PC, are the expert on your playbook. If you are the vampire, you are the expert on how vampire powers work. The authors provided us with source material for vampires, which is a great start. However, they deliberately did not explicitly say what the rules are for vampires in Urban Shadows are. That is to allow us to define our own rules in our fiction. The same is true for all your roles. I will contribute as well, naturally. If you establish something about your character in-fiction, it's true. Just be aware that I will also add balancing elements. If you make vampires largely immune to regular bullets, I will find a way to make you more vulnerable, perhaps by making something else true in fiction.

2. Stanley Ipkiss is not a character in this game. I put that on the character sheet template as an example of how to write your debts. Even that's not a requirement. If you want to format them differently, go ahead.

I still have this debt left to give away:

"You consider someone a friend even though the friendship keeps bringing you trouble. They owe you a Debt."

Perhaps others would like to post which debts they still need to give as well?

When you post, there should be a stylized text drop down menu on the right corner of the screen. Also, under the box of posted material there is bold, italic, underline, etc.

It is fun when people talk in a colour, but not necessary. Sometimes people post from a smartphone and it is a pain in the butt to use the formatting tools.

I like it when people indicate that they are writing or texting with italics.

We usually post in 3rd person. I will use your characters' first names, and the NPCs will generally be referred to by surnames.

I want to apologize for the disappearing act. Without getting into the whole deal, I got wrapped up in something and it ended up taking me away from my computer and the internet for pretty much this whole time.

Stuff is still ongoing so I’m going to be taking a step back from the website for a little bit and stop running and playing games here due to time and stress constraints. I appreciate the patience and opportunity to play with you.

1) Jake, The Tainted (Wild), has a friend in the blood drive mobile. I owe Jake 2 Debts.
A few years ago, Jake found the ever-hungry Lilith in need of a new blood source. Jake has worked out a deal with a few guys from a blood bank, and often works out a way for local vamps to get blood. Granted its not the whole vamp population, but he figured it would be better for the locals so Lilith does not get hungry.

2) Samael, The Fae (Wild), was able to find a specific dagger (needed to kill NPC who killed Vlad) and he keeps it hidden (in his enchanted garden) for now. I owe Samael 1 debt.

3) Carmen, The Oracle (Power), helps Lilith realize her true potential through Carmen's visions. Carmen saw the V shaped wound in Bronx, in one of her visions, and decided to tell Lilith about it. I owe Carmen 1 Debt.

4) Lilith lives in Tori's, The Wolf (Night), territory, benefiting from her protection, since she moved to Bronx when she was 18 y/o. I owe Tori 1 Debt.

5) Gigi, The Aware (Mortality), made sure that the vampire slayer that killed her ex doesn't know about Lilith, but Lilith thinks she is protecting Gigi. I owe Gigi 1 Debt and she owes me 1 Debt.

6) Lilith keeps Jessica, The Hunter (Mortality), well equipped and supplied (She's a Private Detective and has some access to police resources - guns, confiscated things, you name it). Jessica owes me 2 Debts.

7) Lilith was employed by some gangsters to follow a member of Amanita's, The Revenant (Night???), family. This got them all killed in the end. Lilith mourned her death, truly and deeply. Amanita owes me 1 debt.

8) Someone relies on you for their fix. They owe you a Debt.

9) Someone bears responsibility for you becoming a vampire. They owe you a Debt.

Certainly the Revenant Playbook is a very blunt instrument.

For me is a bit unclear who you are referring to... because we agreed that Lilith was involved to stalk your family and report back to the gangsters, which got you and your family killed. Lilith didn't knew the gangster's intentions and she mourned Amanita's death. Amanita should know what happened and why Lilith mourned her death (because Amanita owes Lilith a debt, not the other way around).

Once you agree on an acceptable price, he promises he will track down the person who posted the video. He expects it will probably take at most a day.

Yeah.. so... i forgot about this part, but let's roll with it. Lilith would like to see if there are updates on the case file, and any other leads. Like DNA found or any other hint which might help us identify something about the criminal. Tracks, trails, footprints, stuff like that.

The Move "Persuade an NPC" is supposed to trigger when you specifically use some kind of tangible leverage to force an action of some kind. That's now what's happening in Amanita's most recent post (not really). So I didn't include it.

If the MC does think it counts as a Persuade Roll (make him feel bad so he helps us), I rolled an 8.

Lilith was asking about smell & vampire senses, which brings up a point that I wanted to address.

Each of you is playing a different representative of the shadows. Unlike in games where the lore is firmly established, Urban Shadows allows the players to contribute to the boundaries of your archetype's abilities. Lilith has established that vampires can go out into daylight as long as not too much sun hits their skin.

Now she is asking if vampires have advanced senses. The source materials are conflicted, so we can create our own reality. I suggest this: Vampires can have very powerful senses related to hunting healthy humans. Perhaps they can smell blood or hear heartbeats. Obviously the greater corruption, the more powerful their alien senses become.

Then Lilith would try to smell/hear if there is anyone in the apartment. Do I roll let it out or is not needed?
