Chapter 1: The Man Behind the Mask
This whole time Marsuvees has been relatively quiet, chiming in only when necessary.  After accepting the mission, he looks the others over. He thinks of any further questions.

"I understand the need for secrecy as much as any other, but could you tell us why you felt the need to bring this group together for this job and not hire a courier? Or at the very least, whether or not you feel like this job will be dangerous along with clandestine?"

Chapter 1: The Man Behind the Mask
"Monsieur, your assertion of the possible danger being related to our employ seems to be somewhat of an underwhelming conclusion." Luc sighed and turned away from Marsuvees to face the Archduke and spoke with careful formality. "My Lord, all due discretion aside, your are asking us to commit to a task that could have us killing the men working for, nay, possibly loyal and oath-bound to your rivals. Men, whom, one can only assumed aspire to the same lofty position in life as the Archduke himself enjoys. Could my Lord at least disclose the items to be procured and the need for their protection?"

Chapter 1: The Man Behind the Mask
"This gentlemen will accompany, I requested his presence in a like manner as yourselves," the Archduke says referring to Marsuvees.

"It is very possible that when you succeed you may very well make some powerful people angry," the DeMainz says matter-of-factly.  "However, you will also make several powerful allies and earn my gratitude."  When he refers to powerful people he waves dismissively towards the chess table, clearly saying one of his rivals is his opponent in that game.  "I have laid out the order of things such that if you fail to reach Marseilles or are otherwise detained, you will be unable to divulge the knowledge you do not have.  In Marseilles you will receive further instructions."

Pierre nodded respectfully, then glanced at the other two he had travelled with. Calculating that it will take them four days hard to travel to reach Marseille, the sooner they get started the better.

If there are no further questions from Adam or Luc, Pierre gives the  Archduke a Courtly bow and heads out to start their  task. Climbing into the Carriage Pierre settles himself as he did on the journey here.

Leaning forward to gain a better view outbofthe carriage at the others. Monsieurs, tardiness is an unbecoming quality, even at the worst of times, and less so when engaged in such a venture as we now are.

Chapter 1: The Man Behind the Mask
Pyotor was waiting outside the study in a rotunda with stairs curving up when you exited.  He motioned for you to follow and led the way back to the front, standing just outside the front doors of the chateau as you prepare to depart.  Pendu, the large man who drove the carriage before, brought the carriage around as you were exiting.  He gets down and opens the door, but before letting anyone in he points out three hidden compartments: one under each of the two rows of seats and a third behind a panel at the back of the passenger section.  The carriage is quite roomy, space for six inside, two on the driver's seat and one at the back.  Pendu does not speak, and seems to use hand signals to talk.

Luc takes a seat upfront with the driver, Pendu, and gives the man a nod. "I like to be able to see what is going on. And the air is fresher, not so perfumed and scented like those fine gentlemen."

Chapter 1: The Man Behind the Mask
Pendu drives carriage welcoming Luc to sit up front with him.  The first day's journey is uneventful and after pushing the horses as far as he dares Pendu pulls into a traveler's inn for the night.  He will unhook the carriage and sees to it and the horses in the stable, motioning for the gentlemen to proceed him into the inn.

The place is busy, there are many travelers this close to Paris and the location about day's journey from the city means that there is a lot of opportunity.  The master of the house calls to you that you are in luck, he has some rooms available, but you will have to share.  The cost is 2 L per person, including a light supper.

<OOC>

Any plans for the night?  Precautions for the next day?

Chapter 1: The Man Behind the Mask
Entering the inn, Luc looks around taking everything and locating the proprietor.

"Good evening, sir, my companions and I will be needing clean rooms, meals, and storm lanterns for the night." Luc says as he begins counting out coins to pay the man. "We have urgent business that requires us to make haste in the morning. Could one of your cooks be in at sunrise to cook up some black bread or croissants?"

Chapter 1: The Man Behind the Mask
"We have few rooms, monsieur," he calls between poring drinks and answering other patrons' questions.  "Find a table and we'll be with you momentarily.  How many of you?"  The place is bustling with many locals and fare number of travelers.  Luc can find an empty table tucked into a corner, it is not popular because it is hard to get more than three people around it given its position in the corner.  There are three serving women, all past their prime, besides the master.  They wear brown dresses with once-white aprons.

Chapter 1: The Man Behind the Mask
"You may not have three rooms, I don't have three to spare," the master says over the din of the crowd of patrons.  "I shall see about two rooms for your company, m'lord," at this distance it is hard to tell if he is being sarcastic, but he does accompany the epithet with slight bow before returning to his work.

[Private to Piere de Vilfor: Yes, the carriage has the Archduke's coat of arms on it.]

"In town, that way sir," the man says gesturing vaguely to the Southeast, up the road.  "But I'm certain there is no one there at this hour," he adds after walking on a few steps.

Inside, the master brings the three beers and looks at Luc as though to say he won't judge a man for buying three in advance, and takes the payment.
