Chapter 5B - The Ceremony

The wedding.

The Lychester Sept was well lit and spacious enough to accomodate several hundred of Lord Lyman’s guests.

Once it had been a humble structure of wood and simple carved masks hanging from its rafters, but over the centuries it had been dressed in fine stone. Rich translucent rainbow curtains hung in front of high windows, casting their scintillating colours across the Sept. each of the gods was represented in an intimidating eight foot statue of wood. At the great oaken doors of the Sept beneath an embossed bronze seven pointed star, below which the black talon of House Lychester was carved in stone. The sept was centuries old.

Father Mattheus stood in a commanding position, at a high altar between the statues of the Father and Mother. Before him, and a step below, stood Ser Adham, dressed in fine silks and bearing an even finerceremonial cloak dressed in silver thread and semiprecious stones. A nervous smile played across his lips as he waited.

Standing in for Lord Connington, Ser Jasper led the bridal party. His son Ser Jon, a pimply young man of nineteen years, and nephew, Ser Konrad Storm took up a ceremonial position just inside the doors of the Sept, sheathed swords held facing down, signifying that House Wylde had safeguarded the bride this far.

The lady Sylvia entered in resplendent beauty, accompanied by the sound of Ser Jasper’s paid musicians and a few hushed whispers. Lady Eileen Wylde, Ser Jasper’s daughter accompanied her, but stood two steps removed when she reached the altar .

Father Mattheus spoke in a strong and authoritative voice, speaking of the importance of the vows that bound man and wife, and the role of faith and the gods in such a union. He spoke little of the symbolic joining of houses from different regions, leaving others to draw their own conclusions.

As the ceremony came to its end he called for an exchange of vows, and for those guests gathered to uphold the union forged in front of the gods this day.

Chapter 5B - The Ceremony

Bryn, sitting on the bride's side of the sept with his man Jord, pays enough attention to the goings on in the ceremony to not offend, standing and sitting at the required times.

He keeps a surreptitious eye on Ser Walton Banemark, perhaps trying to ascertain his responses to the wedding. It seemed unusual to Bryn that the Banemarks would be present at all, though perhaps House Durrandon had encouraged them to attend.

OOC: 18:05, Today: Bryn Blackfin rolled 14 using 4d6, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 6,5,3,2.  Awareness:Empathy Ser Walton Banemark's response to the wedding.

Chapter 5B - The Ceremony

Berion made a point to stop to wish Ser Adham congratulations in private well before the ceremony was set to commence.  He had grown rather fond of the Lychester heir, with the two bonding during their most recent adventure.  Something about saving the groom to be earned a man a fair bit of goodwill, so his entry was not barred as might otherwise be the case.  The two exchanged pleasantries, with Berion once again congratulating the man and telling him not to be nervous before clapping him on the shoulders with a broad smile and making his way to the ancient sept to join the other guests.

One of the first to arrive, Berion found himself in quiet introspection.  In truth, he couldn't help but shake the thoughts that had bothered them since their encounter with the warg and his beasts but a day ago.  Something was afoot here, and he couldn't put his finger on what precisely that might be.

As such, he stumbled over familiar words that should have otherwise been reflexive, the result of many years of faith to the Seven.  Thankfully everyone else seemed to have much bigger concerns than he, and so it was unlikely that anyone save perhaps those next to him noticed.

Berion Knollwood rolled 3 using 2d6 with rolls of 2,1.  Will (Dedication)

Chapter 5B - The Ceremony

Jenny had gotten there early and was very excited; she wore a dress with the full-skirted design she especially loved in her family's red and black. She was dazzled by the ancient sept; the Drowned God's worshippers had nothing to match it in their grim faith. She watched Lady Sylvia enter. "Oh, I hope I look that pretty when I'm to be married... oh, it must be so thrilling!" she whispered excitedly to the others. She looked around quickly; did she draw the attention of anyone here? She did her best to perform all the ceremonies precisely correct even though the house Septa wasn't here. She watched the bride's reaction, expecting to see how happy she was.

11:59, Today: Jenny Goodbrother rolled 12 using 4d6, dropping the lowest dice only with rolls of 3,4,3,5.  Awareness (Empathy)

Since she's not just come from traveling, Cat has been able to dress in much better clothing that at the feast. An embroidered gown of her house colors and some nicely braided hair makes for a much better appearance. She does her best to blend in and participate in the customs, even though she hasn't been to many weddings yet.

18:38, Today: Lady Catelyn Mooton rolled 10 using 3d6 with rolls of 4,2,4.  Follow wedding customs.

Chapter 5B - The Ceremony

Valen is currently once again in his more formal tunic with the quartered Vance and Knollwood insignia for such an occasion. Weddings are a ceremony he's used to frequenting, and as pious person, considered quite important and sacred to uphold in its custom.

As such he goes about dutifully performing the rites, citing each of the words as if he didn't even need to think to let them flow, each of his movements went along with what was expected with each part of the ceremony. As he was currently beside Ser Berion, he becomes more pronounced in his recitation and movements, trying to at least gather attention more on himself at his side and subtly cover some of the knight's stumblings.

"May the Seven bless their union." He may not know the groom and bride personally, but the young man put a lot of value in the sanctity of marriage under the eyes of the Gods, and he had no reason to bear them ill will in such a joyous occasion.

OOC: Valen rolled a 13 with 6,1,3,4 (Dedication 1B), to follow the ceremony.

Chapter 5B - The Ceremony

In reply to Bryn Blackfin (msg # 2):

Ser Walton proves to be in fine spirits throughout the ceremony, cheering the happy couple and warmly thumping Ser Adham on the back in congratulations, showing an established friendship between the heirs of House Banemark and House Lychester.

During Father Mattheus's sermon he proves a little distracted however, and a perceptive observer notes that Ser Walton appears distracted by the Lady Selene Mistwood, who shows irreverence toward the Septon; miming a mockery of his words and gestures toward Ser Walton, though this is missed by both the Most Devout and guests. Ser Walton's cheeks reddened and he tried to stifle a chuckle behind a feigned cough.

Chapter 5B - The Ceremony

In reply to Jenny Goodbrother (msg # 4):

Lady Sylvia Connington is resplendent in her fine garb and appears to drink in the attention bestowed on her by the ceremony. She casually tosses her hair in a manner calculated to catch the light with her finely combed locks and her walk somehow manages to incorporate a sensual sway while maintaining the decorum of a fine Andal bride. As Ser Jon and Ser Konrad move to take up their ceremonial positions, Sylvia's hand lingers on the bastard knight's arm, and her gaze flits throughout the crowd during the ceremony. Only in the moment of the vows does she betray the slightest hesitancy, with her eyes flicking toward the firmly closed doors of the Castle's sept.

Chapter 5B - The Ceremony

The faith of the seven was not his faith, but several of the older customs carried over.  Jarrak was careful not to put himself forward in any part, but his recitations, or lack thereof at the moments we're somewhat off.  He hoped, at least, that he made no noticable mark on the brides day.

03:09, Today: Ser Jarrak rolled 5 using 2d6 with rolls of 4,1.  Deception (Act), focus on participation in the ceremony.

Thoren stood with the Blackfin group, though as ever, endeavored to present himself well without calling particular attention. His finery could be described as sufficient for the occasion and his station without being gaudy. His practical outlook on life left little room for peacocking.
