Chapter 7: The Stands

With the opening event coming to its dramatic close, there was a noticeable change in the demeanour of most guests present. Many had ignored the majority of the Squire’s tournament, especially those with no vested stake. Others had their initial excitement cautioned by the abrupt climax of the previous event. But a Knight’s Tournament was a different affair, as matters of personal and family honour were more keenly felt and the odds of bodily or financial ruin far higher. Keen eyed lords eyed the competitors as a judge of their house’s martial competence, while their female counterparts looked upon future husbands, or more temporary alliances.

Word arrived somewhat abruptly to Lady Gwendolyn by way of handmaiden that Lady Mallister and her two children, Elinor and Edric intended to visit upon her during the event, though little was said to the intended purpose of this venture beyond the making of acquaintances.

PC's not jousting in the Knightly's Tourney can choose to:
1. engage with or seek out a nominated NPC for RP or Intrigue,
2. be open to be engaged by an NPC who might seek them out here or in The tourney Field, or
3. choose to focus on the tourney [Rolling Status: Tournament, or Awareness: Notice to notice matters of interest]

Ser Thoren Blackfin will default to (2) and be approached directly by Lady Catryn Mallister

Chapter 7: The Stands

As everyone calmed a bit from the conclusion to the squire's joust, Gwen settled in to watch the tilts between knights. Most of the men that would ride today were known to her, and the Blackfin heiress certainly had her favorites. She listened closely as Ser Edam announced the pairings, and was glad that Ser Derrin wasn't matched against anyone else she hoped would win a few rounds.

At the approach of Lady Mallister's handmaiden, Gwen's attention was pulled from the tournament field toward the young woman. With a smile and a nod, Gwen gave her answer. "I look forward to their visit." Hazel eyes again scanned the gathered crowd before she returned her attention to the knights preparing to ride.

Chapter 7: The Stands

Having now moved back to sit with Jord once more, giving Gwendolyn space to converse with others, the young man begins to pay more attention to the tourney itself. In particular he looks towards those hedge knights with loose or no connections to a particular house.

If his cousin's scheme to make him Lord Protector of House Paege was successful he would need to know who he might try to entice in order to clear out the banditry in Riverthorn. He remembered a lesson his father had once taught him; a knight might lead a charge but it is the lancers they lead that will do much of the work.

"Keep an eye out for any capable fighters, Jord. I may look to expand my retinue in the not too distant future."

OOC: Awareness: Notice (12) for now but I am open to being approached by any PC or NPC.
16:10, Today: Bryn Blackfin rolled 12 using 3d6 with rolls of 5,1,6.  Awareness: Notice.

Chapter 7: The Stands

Thoren sat to watch the proceedings with the same interest he had shown in the squire's joust, where his son and other members associated with House Blackfin had participated. He sat in the stands with his shoulders squared, but his limbs a bit more relaxed, in a position to leave if he had to at a moment's notice. He was a bit back, but his niece was within his line of sight at all times.

Never one for this sport himself, he had grown over time to enjoy the spectacle of it and took in the proceedings with a keen eye. He hoped that Berion and Ramsbold performed well in this opening round, though he noted the other participants as well. He wasn't familiar with this Ser Jarrek. Ser Derrin he thought well of, and wished him well against Ser Lyonel, especially as he was wearing Gwendolyn's favor.
