Russel Albion:
Armor removes damage?

When you take damage, you subtract your armor from the amount dealt (to a minimum of 0 damage taken). There are exceptions that ignore armor, such as the drowning damage the elemental just dealt to Gorrid.

So I took 1 less. Good. Never know when that will matter.

Buckthorn:
So, +1 xp when we screw up at a crucial moment? First truly bad roll I've had.

Yup, whenever you roll 2d6 and the final result is 6- then you gain an XP.

Yeah "failure" (6-) is more of an active state than "it didn't happen"--it opens an opportunity for the DM to do whatever move they want, probably making trouble for the PCs, so I suppose the idea is that you're compensated in XP for bad things happening. It happens on any roll, not just crucial moments (although you could also define "crucial moments" as any time it matters enough to roll the dice).

In reply to Idi (msg # 923):

Yeah, if it isn't a "crucial moment" why are dice being rolled?

I look at as incentive to try the slightly crazier thing.  Yes, it might not work, but you benefit either way, so why not give it a go :)  What's the worst that could happen?  (Other than drowning inside a wave creature that ignores swords.. ;>)

Re: The OOC bar

At least you are slowing it down, if it has to drag your heavy body around inside it.

Does cocking the crossbow create an ice arrow? If so, maybe doing it inside would freeze all the touching water.

I dunno, living inside a wave creature that ignores swords? What a terrible life-long prison that could have been if we were truly helpless to get you out haha

Re: The OOC bar

That would be an interesting scene. A water elemental going around, carrying his pet fish inside him.

"I'd like some bread, please."
"I thought elementals didn't need to eat?"
"I don't. *swallows bread chunks* It's for my pet Finny."

Re: The OOC bar

Spriggy is probably the obvious choice for doing interrogation, being a bard. However, it may actually go more smoothly if someone else takes on the role. Real life has been making my posting rate slow down lately and I don't want to stall the game for everyone by being in the spotlight. Plus, it would be a good opportunity for one of our newer players to be the center of attention for a while.

Buckthorn, Idi, Russel? Any of your characters have experience with interrogation? Or if two of you want to work as a pair (good cop, bad cop?) I can use Arcane Arts to make an Aid roll provide a +2 bonus instead of +1, so even a non-charismatic character has a good chance of success.

Re: The OOC bar

I'm assuming we're all healed up after a good rest on a town environment, if not I'd have shared my Halfling ability as we set camp to boost healing.

If no one objects, Buck will take the (now mundane) bolas to practice with and use in the future.

As far as interrogation goes, Buck isn't very outgoing or talkative nor does he know much of what's transpired.

Re: The OOC bar

Idi is an investigator-priest of a "secret things" hunter-deity; I can take a shot at talking to the captive!

And if it comes down to it, I can always prepare "speak with dead"... :)

Re: The OOC bar

Sounds like a plan!

And speak with dead could be handy regardless, since we also have a couple dead enemies, I believe.

Whoever wants the bolts is welcome to them.  Shooting is not Sir Gorrid's forte :)

Russel seems like the obvious choice for the bolts. Is anyone else a ranged-weapon combatant?

We can add the bolts to Spriggy's cart, as nobody has a crossbow currently, that I'm aware of.

I'm going to keep talking with the mage and stuff, but I thought I'd just pause my IC there to see if he does anything particular before I finish the spell.

I'll write myself into the room with Idi, not to actively interrogate, just to possibly aid a roll

Re: The OOC bar

Yeah anyone come on in if you like! I'm not trying to keep it private or anything. Plus, ya know, Aid is always great :)

I have Sanctuary up which will let me know if he "acts with malice" just in case, and now Charm Person so he'll treat me as a friend for now... Let's see if we can get something out of him. DM, do you want to do it as a Parley roll, or...? For everyone, what DO we want to know, if we can?

Re: The OOC bar

My questions:
- who hired him (or at least what he knows about them)?
- what were the specific instructions?
- should we expect others?
- why are they so darn poor?  (Pretty sure they were paid more than 10 gold for this job)
- what other crimes has he committed?

(The last only being relevant in terms of his trial or summary execution... :>)

Where did that spirit come from?
I thought the one in the stones was trapped there?
Was that some kind of projection from the Necro?
