Greetings fellow explorers...

Confirming we are creating characters per the core book?

3d6 rolled six times in order?

Yes, let's stick to the book.

Edit: remember that there is the option to take the array rather than rolling. Or, if you roll, one score can be increased to 14.

Hello everyone!  Newly added to the game and happy to be here.  I'm new to SWN so I'm happy to accept advice and guidance on game rules and such.

Do we know what the current character concepts look like?  I don't have anything pre-generated, so I can probably fill some holes if we're heavy in one area and light in another.

I'm new to SWN as well and looking over the options I'm considering a Thug Warrior character. Maybe one that's better at melee fighting than ranged fighting. Not the brightest bulb, but not a complete dunce either. He may not win any thinking awards but he doesn't need to to get the job done. That's what I'm thinking of for my character.

Also new here

This concept started out as "Salvage Technician" and pretty much remained true to that over the course of his rolls.

He has a spread of technical skills and general competency as a spacecraft pilot.

Yu Tian You ("Yú" or "于" is the surname, "Tiān Yǒu" or "天牖" is the given name) is a Healer, Bard, and Missionary, who seeks to minister to the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of a needy people in a dark universe.  Biopsionics, Telepathy, Connect, Know, Perform, Talk skills.  Personality similar to Shepherd Book (Firefly), Obi Wan Kenobi (Star Wars IV).  :)

Okay, thanks all.  Probably a more combat oriented then, with maybe a little "sneaky" included.  Let me see what I can come up with.

I was skewing toward combat + sneaky too, but I'm considering a social component.

The thing about West Marches-style games is that you never know what combination of characters you're going to get, especially if you have a big roster of players to pull from. So one game might be all talkers and the next game might be all hackers. It's usually best to make a character that you like and that will be fun rather than trying to plug holes in the roster since the roster will change over time.

I've decided to let the dice tell me what I've got.  So far, completely average with no particularly redeeming features!  :)

Akando makes a good point. As it is now, we have one GM and six players so it looks like we'll be running one group. But in the future I'm hoping we get a few more players and one or two more GMs so we can rearrange groups as people want to try different adventures. So while a character may slot in well now, there's no guarantee that it will later.

Zenox rolled well!

I'll go sneaky/shooty to start.

I'll likely GM down the road, after Chapter 1. Wrapping up another game I'm GMing ocer the next couple months.

Callaghan is going to be a detective. Expert class, specialist in Notice. Two fisted type.

The dice handed me a stabby melee guy, who has trouble controlling his mouth.  I mean, who speaks his mind.

Looking forward to the first adventure!

A question for the group: When it comes to the faction turn, how much mystery do you want? I was planning on putting it all out for the players to see and then asking that you avoid metagaming. Or would you prefer that I keep it behind the scenes?

Also, I was going to make the faction turn take place at regular real-world time intervals. Thoughts on this?

I think behind the scenes is good, with the potential for individual characters to gain some "insight" based on their roles.

Re: OOC: Free-for-All

Personally I'm kind of fascinated by the behind-the-scenes mechanics. Perhaps a voluntary thread/group where things are done and posted?

As for the real world intervals, that's probably a good goal, especially if there are multiple games going on at multiple states of completion. After the first chapter or so, we'll all be on separate/artificial IC timelines anyway.

Re: OOC: Free-for-All

Sure, that works well. I'll make an "Opt-In" group for anyone who wants to see what happens outside the scope of their own characters.

So it begins...  I suspect that you mean "Tian You", unless you prefer the more formal "Mr. Yu"... ;)
