"Calling it a town might be generous," Gregory said.

"Well, if you don't want to talk, that's fine," Karine said. "We're headed to find a tavern if you want to come."

"Well, I can talk some," said Cil.  "...but a tavern sounds good.  Let's go."

"Ah, smaller?  Well, you're entering a bigger world now," said Giulia.  "Forgive me for being direct, but what are your strengths?  I am a knight, but I am a storm dragon, as well; a scholar and a warrior mage are our other allies."

...to the degree that they were, that is.

"I'm pretty good at usin' my daddy's mace and shield," Gregory said. "I can do some healin' too."

"Let's go!" Karine said.

"Ah, good," said Giulia.  "A healer may be absolutely vital, if there are wounded."

She didn't need one all that badly, but no need to bring that up.

The boy blushed a bit.

"Thank ya, that's really kind of ya to say."

"True, though," said Giulia.  "I've seen what wounded warriors go through.  Ah, I should tell you that the warrior-mage is rather conscious of her high social rank."

"Most a them are," Gregory said with a shrug.

"I try not to be," said Giulia.  "Possibly helped in that I'm fostered by the Adragna, rather than being a true child of theirs."

"Ah, well, it don't matter much," Gregory said.

"No, I think it does," said Giulia.  "We all contribute.  We have to work together."

"I meant the whole status thing," Gregory said.

"Ah," said Giulia.  "That's fair, then.  You may well be right."

"How're you finding the school so far?" Gregory asked.

Giulia shrugged.

"Having some trouble dealing with some of the people," she said.  "That may pass as they get used to me.  I don't know."

"Ah, that's a shame. My parents said that Beastfolk were just like us, but some people have such meanness," Gregory said.

"Some are, but I'm not, precisely, a Beastfolk," said Giulia.  "For all that I may look a bit like one, that's not my heritage."

"Ah sorry, you don't look that much like a Goblin," Gregory said.

"Ah. I never met a dragon before," Gregory said. "Now I can say I have."

"And soon enough, you'll get to say that you've fought alongside one," said Giulia.  "Among other things."

"I was thinkin' of grabbin' some grub. You wanna come?" Gregory asked.

"Yes, I will," said Giulia.  "Thank you."
