House Rules

The Golden Roll Rule
When in doubt, DON’T ROLL
Outside of combat, please don’t roll unless I ask you to. Rolling with the hope that something will happen will not help you. The exception is in combat: roll whatever you want in combat, within reason.

ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES
Characters in this game are free to act as they choose. However, your character does not exist in a vacuum. If you do harm to others wantonly or build a reputation for robbing or pillaging, it will affect you, including potential re-arrangement of your Icon Relationships or even your alliance with other player characters.

HERO POINTS

It is an unfortunate reality of gaming at RPOL.net that the diceroller is horrid. It just is. It has a tendency to roll low a disproportionate amount of the time for no clear reason. The proprietors deny it vigorously, but the fact remains that it is wonky, to say the least.

To offset this, I will be awarding more Hero points than in a typical PF2E game.  You will get Hero Points awarded periodically for fun in roleplaying or at milestones in the story. We will track them in the Biography area of your Character Details.

To use one, simply declare use of it in Orange text in the IC thread and re-roll your roll, subtracting one from the total in your Biography. You can use as many Hero Points on a single roll as you want, up to your limit. They can be applied to any roll of the d20. With apologies, they can't be applied to any other dice.

ALSO

When you use a Hero Point, roll until you get a 10 or above on the die. Consider it my revenge against the diceroller.

If you're using the Hero Point to make a saving throw of 11+, you don't have to roll--just declare you're using the Hero Point.

LEVELING AND EXPERIENCE

The PCs will level up together and at predetermined intervals, not based on actual experience accumulation. The timing of this leveling will reflect points in the story during which the accumulation of experience in the adventure path would have the PCs leveling anyway.

Posting standards:
  • Try to keep metagame conversation not directly related to the scene unfolding in the OOC thread. If you don't, I may move your OOC comments there for you.
  • When I ask you for a roll, ALWAYS copy the result from the dice roller here into the IC thread. Put that and any other mechanical detail in orange text after the in-character text in the IC thread. Do not put them in "spoiler" mode or in a private post. You can make them smaller text if it makes you feel better, but don't hide or obscure them.
  • The player always makes her or his own roll, when the roll is required.
  • It is okay if your post is just a copied dice roll if that's all you have time for. Pace of posting is more important than aesthetics in this context.
  • In combat, always post your OOC  three actions, even if you don't use them. Posts without the declaration of three actions are not considered complete.

Maps

This game will use Google Draw for maps. Players are expected to move their own minis in-game. If you make a mistake--for example, if you move the map surface instead of your mini--hit CONTROL + Z to fix it (on a Mac, COMMAND + Z).

If you are using a device that can't access the map and need to post to keep the game moving, send the GM a PM, don't put it in your post. The GM will not be looking for map instructions in the posts.

SECRET ROLLS

If the DM was supposed to make a secret roll per the Pathfinder 2e rules for skills and asks you for a roll, please do NOT post anything to the IC or OOC thread. Please send him a PM instead. He will correct his mistake and make the roll. No fuss, no muss. :-)

READIED ACTIONS

When you state that you're readying an attack or action, make related dice rolls and post with your stated action. If you roll a natural 20 and never use it, I'll compensate you with Hero Points :-)

INITIATIVE/PERCEPTION ROLLS

Perception is the standard attribute used for initiative in PF2E, of course. However, the GM will ask for Perception rolls for reasons other than the start of combat. Never assume that a Perception roll is an initiative roll, or that a prior Perception roll will suffice for initiative.
