If we have 8 players registered here so far I imagine we will get at least 8 different ideas, so lets see what everyone pitches first before making any decisions.

Rifles have a better choice. You do have the Henry rifle ( Danny Glover's character in Silverardo) and the Spencer Carbine ( Union Cavalry carbine) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spencer_repeating_rifle. Blacks were treated much better than Indians or Chinese in the Old West. Many of the Cowboys were Negros. It would not be the rampant racism like the KKK but they were 2nd class citizens. And the Indians depended on the tribe. Full blooded Apache, Comanche and Sioux might be treated like dirt but "civilized" Indians like Cherokee and others from Oklahoma are more accepted ( but treated as 2nd class citizens). It is not my game so the Judge can be as nasty to minorities as he wants in our "movie". If we are just running models then 1870's is best as all the NPCs will have Winchester 73s and Peacemakers This message was last edited by the player at 14:01, Thu 22 Oct 2020.

Year would be like 1868 or 69. We would be coming back from War but war in Mexico. The French just lost to mexico. For those that wanted to be from the civil war, many southern soldiers decided to fight for the French. Others joined because of their skills with weapons and money to be earned, some of these were wanted in the states. We could all be returning to the States from a unit down there, safety in numbers to get back across the border. Then we decide to stay together to make something work, a gang to become outlaws or even a hired gun outfit to be hired for jobs, a solid crew to form our own brand and ranch with just about anything. If we got big enough we could even try to take over a town and run it. So many stories we could decide to run with as a group, a easy plot hook to have us all together at the start and as we make characters we start talking about what type of ideas the group could lean towards.

I don't really have a character concept yet, hence the generic name. Ex-soldier is one option I'm happy to play, but could pick up others too. So far we have a half-breed native, a sheriff/gunslinger (depending on which town he's in), Dirty Dick and Lucky Gus (gamblers?), Artemis' wronged woman/freedom fighter and Jeremiah's ex-soldier. Seems like a good crew to me!

I like the Mexico ex confederate idea. And cap and ball is ok by me.
Diligence Harper player, 1 post Call me Dil Fri 23 Oct 2020 at 01:12 |
![]() Diligence Harper was born on Christmas Day in 1850 along the Oregon Trail to Joe and Maggie Harper, a settler family headed west. She was the third of three girls who grew up pretty wild on the plains. In 1855 Diligence was captured by Comanche Indians. She was five years old and assumed after her capture that her family was all dead. She was raised by the tribe to her mid teens then "rescued" during a 7th Cavalry raid in 1867. Returned to civilization, but thoroughly outcast from it, the young woman became a scout working with the Cavalry. She is sick and tired of helping the Army and thinking now would be a good time to become a bounty hunter.

I can flesh out the character better once we've started generation. The different methods for creating abilities gives more or less control, so I'll reserve details until I know what I have to work with.

Highly skilled with a rifle and tracking as well, he earned the nickname Wildcat after he tracked a mountain lion down who had been killing the family goats. Not without a reminder when the lion caught him by surprise, leaving claw marks across his face (which after healed, really didn’t hurt his looks, even helped at times). More tbd after narrowing down setting, time, etc. :)

I see Dirty Dick has posted in the first chapter but I don't know what seat he is in yet? Dacey and Jeremiah haven't rolled up characters yet. Everyone else seems pretty active. I will give these guys another 24 hours to get things squared away and then I am kicking off, anyone not on the train will be left behind until there is an appropriate place to insert them into the story line. And a word of warning about god modding, be careful about assuming NPC's actions, putting words in the mouths of other players or NPC's or describing things that may not actually be present. As The Judge I reserve the right to ignore player posts about things that did not happen or that do not exist :) In the mean time I am going to set up a private message thread with each player to handle combat mechanics and try to keep the story Chapters 'in character' as much as possible.

Now that a number of you are conversing, some at either end of the rail car, is anyone changing seats? I doubt Marc at the front of the car would be able to actually hear what was being said at the back of the car? I still don't know where Dirty Dick is seated. Dacy and Jeremiah still have not rolled up their characters. How much longer should we wait? Or shall we get started?
