Re: Off Topic (OOC)

No, I am waiting for players to respond to the latest update in this game.  So far only Jake has responded.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

My dearly beloved husband is in the hospital right now, so please consider Jonas as continuing to retrieve wounded and generally staying out of the way until further notice please.

I'm sorry, but as a roleplayer, The Lost Regiment run in the manner you describe holds no appeal whatsoever. I am enjoying this game, however.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

Thanks for the heads up and I hope your husband gets the treatment he needs, all the best in that regard.

May I ask what you mean by "run in the manner you describe holds no appeal whatsoever"?  Obviously players have preferences about the kinds of games they like to play and won't go for just any game, so I am curious about what turns you off about that kind of game or what might be required to peak your interest?

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

It's the "big focus on combat" that puts me off. I prefer it when combat has a lesser place and only occurs when absolutely necessary. So a game based on soldiers in wartime is probably not a good fit for me. I suppose I could play a relatively non-combatabt character, a padre or a medic perhaps...

It's not a comment on your game running by any means. I'm enjoying playing in this game - exploring, prospecting, making a life in the Old West, great fun. Yes, sometimes people there got into brawls and shoot-outs, they didn't call it the "Wild West" for nothing. But a lot of people stepped away when that happened, we've all seen the movie trope of people pulling their kids off the boardwalk in front of their house and slamming the door when the fellows in black hats ride into town!

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

OK that makes sense, thanks for taking the time to respond.  Yes this game is largely combat focused so players who are into war gaming or the combat side of RPG's should enjoy this game during the War time phases of the game.  There are occasional scenarios more about politics, trade, science, medicine and engineering (later in the games we get a bit of almost steam-punk influence) which sounds like more of the aspects you would prefer.

Would you be interested in a non-combat style of character that has cameo appearance rather than a regular soldier type?

I'm too busy at present to add on any new games. And trying to get my Battletech figures painted.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

I'd only be interested in a non-combatant - padre, medic, something like that.

Not madly focussed on gaming right now, though. Dearly beloved is still in the hospital but bored, grumpy, and clawing at walls... we only live about a mile away and I expect the escape tunnel to come up in the middle of the lounge floor any minute :)

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

I hear you Jonas. I do food service at the local hospital & I have patients who have been there since I started 18 months ago. No idea how they have stayed sane. Visit when you can. Best wishes for a full recovery !!

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

Could we get either a grid over the map or XY(grid) references bordering the map.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

No, I prefer players use descriptive writing in their posts, not co-ordinates.  Or I could stop making maps altogether?

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

In reply to Jake (msg # 199):

And all too often the work required to make the maps is taken for granted.  I do not use grid references in any of my games and I am not about to start now.  Most seem to forget that in face to face gaming it is up to the players to draw their own maps, the DM does not provide them.  Yeah, old school :)
If players cannot write descriptions using landmarks and directions (north, south, east, west.  Left and right is relative and confusing) then perhaps play by post is not for them.  This is not a computer/video game where imagination has been subsumed by a game developer.  Play by post is about actual role playing and descriptive writing.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

On that we agree...

I always used to be the party mapper, 'cos I like maps and could do them on the fly.

I remember my monk character, who literally used a brush and a block of ink, Chinese-style. Made for some interesting maps. This long before Oriental settings had been invented, but he was played as Chinese and often baffled by the 'European mediaeval' style setting of the game. Haven't thought about Vanitas Brother Amor, the Passionate Monk, also known as Jeng Jung (Chinese, roughly translates as 'Justice, the Middle Way' - aka Lawful Neutral!), for a long time.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

Still waiting for posts from Jonas and Sally.  If you are not going to post during gun fights you are slowing the game down, we have been stuck in this gun fight far too long because players are not posting or getting involved in gun fights.  If things do not improve soon I will shut the game down due to lack of interest.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

I've not been posting much because I've a) been busy at work and b) am completely bored by a lengthy & pretty pointless gun fight. I'd like to get on to the roleplay, the prospecting, that sort of thing. Sorry.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

If you guys don't shoot back then the fight will keep going.  Jonas has not fired a single shot.  The longer the bad guys are alive the greater the chance you will get killed before the game continues.  Boot Hill is all about gun fights.  I think you are in the wrong game.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

Sorry guys. I have reached the conclusion to bow out. This game was not what I was hoping for. I was more looking for a game with more focus on roleplaying and I have come to understand that this is not that type of game.

Thank you everyone for letting me onboard and good luck in the future.

Take care!

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

It seems my vision of the game is quite different to what the current paying group expects from Boot Hill.  I think it best to wind things up now, we've have taken a long time to get pretty much nowhere in this scenario and things are not improving.  Thanks for playing but I think I will focus more on my other games and take a break from Boot Hill.

Thank you for your time. Apart from tedious fights, it has been a good game with an interesting Old West feel to it and roleplay that I've enjoyed.

Re: Off Topic (OOC)

Sad to see the game go, but if anyone is looking for another western themed game there's a new Aresmush game called The Devil's Due that just opened up. It's set on the backdrop of the Mexican-American war and will have some supernatural elements to it as well. I've made a few changes to Sally so she fits the theme better and plan to continue her over there. If anyone is interested here's the link.
