Well let’s brighten it up a bit here, Frug thinks to himself. These kobolds seem to be like the rest and they will pay for their miss dead’s! Re: The Tomb

Rottimer sees Froodle waste no time high tailing it into the room towards the skirmishers. He smiles as he considers the 3 kobolds positioned closely in front of the altar and prepares to utilize a technique he learned to launch a volley of arrows to rain down on a position rather than targeting just one enemy. If things worked out right, those kobolds would be a little softer when Froodle got there.

As Rottimer drew his bowstring, a flash of light erupted from Frugs staff. Man, he was quick. Rottimer smiled as their twin attacks peppered the enemies. Then he moved to take cover near the closest coffin, all the while hoping it didn't open.

Re: The Tomb

Drake  Observes his team Mates springing into action and relishes the battle ahead. Once he’s traversed this room they will feel the bite of his longsword and will crumple under its divine power. However he must get to them first. He notes his brothers in arms attacks and marvels at the damage that’s wrought at such distances .... Drake Observes Froodles advance and decides to try and get a bit closer before trying again with his hand crossbow knowing that he’s not great with it.

He moves up to stand shoulder to shoulder with Froodle then shouts at the Bright Skirmisher ’By Bahamut you will Engage with me’ then he looses his hand crossbow. Although the crossbow bolt flies true the  Bright Skirmisher moves his arm just as the bolt is about to strike and it whistles past flying beyond the Skirmisher over the alter hitting somewhere behind. Closer this time still more practice required. Drake Reloads and  readies himself. Feeling embarrassed at his lack of prowess with missile weapons.

Re: The Tomb

Rottimer Lind:
Rottimer smiled as their twin attacks peppered the enemies. Then he moved to take cover near the closest coffin, all the while hoping it didn't open.

The coffin doesn't open. In fact it looks like its never been opened. It looks remarkably well-preserved. Dusty, even.

Meanwhile, the kobolds react the way any panicked crowd might, and then they scatter.

The right one moves to the right, away from the pair of towering dragonborn and takes cover behind the coffin across from the one where Frug and Rottimer are hiding.

The other two break left and make for the party's ranged attackers. They come down the aisle between the north wall and the coffins and charge at Frug. In their eagerness, both miss.

That's when the visors of the two suits of armor creak open. From the armor on the south side comes a grinding sound and a final-sounding crunch, but nothing else. From the armor near Frug and Rottimer issues a twang and a tiny dart. Rottimer feels a sting and finds himself rooted to the spot.

Froodle's allies are under attack! How will he defend them?

Re: The Tomb

“Hey you yellow livered scoundrels, come here and fight” yells Froodle as he watches the kobolds run in all directions except towards him.

He turns back towards the entrance, sees that they are currently annoying Frug and heads into the melee, making sure he forms a tall skirmisher sandwich with himself and Frug as the bread, while not letting the shorter skirmisher off the hook, positioning adjacent to him too.

He sees his axe swing through the air, his haste to get involved causing it to narrowly miss its intended target. "I'll get you next time" he grunts "now turn and face me"

Re: The Tomb

Things can change quickly in a fight. Kobolds scurrying. People charging. Mechanical sounds clunking. Rottimer was taking it all in and suddenly something hit him from the side. He wasn't even sure what it was or where it came from. He attempted to move further back, but found himself unable. "Great" he muttered, "Now what?". Stuck. Well, if he couldn't move, he'd attempt to help further soften up the kobolds in the melee. He wasn't sure he wanted to risk messing up whatever Drake had going on with the bright kobold. So, once again, Rottimer took a deep breath and prepared to pepper the melee. If he was careful, he could make sure not to hit an ally. Well, that's usually how it worked. With a sly grin, he released two shafts. The grin split openly into a smile as Rottimer felt a clean release and watched both sale smoothly to their targets, just missing his allies. When he heard two satisfying THUNKS as they found flesh, he lowered his bow and released his breath. Now, Rottimer looked around, trying to find a way to free himself. He wouldn't last long here unable to move.

Re: The Tomb

Drake observes the kobolds scurrying around and the impact of his teammates attacks. All seems in order and battle seems near its end. The Bright skirmisher scurries around the coffin and cowers ‘No you don’t vermin’. Drake moves around the coffin drops his hand crossbow and feels a thrill as he unsheathes his long sword.

Drake focuses on the divine and the sword beams with divine light which chases away the shadows and illuminates the immediate area.  ‘Time to die rat’ shouts Drake as he swings the shining sword. As the arc of the sword descends on the cowering Bright kobold Drake misjudges the strike and a loud clang resounds around the chamber as the sword strikes the coffin not its intended target.

Re: The Tomb

The kobolds gang members don't like how quickly the party have gained the upper hand, but they continue striving. The Skull Kickers didn't get where they are by giving up, apparently.

The one engaged with Drake, still glowing faintly, hops away faster than the paladin can react, and moves quickly over to the melee on the other side of the room. "You dragonborn are a disgrace!" he says to Froodle, to whom he is now adjacent, "Szartharrax will praise us for killing you and will put your frozen corpse out as a warning! Get him!" As he says this last, he interferes with Froodle's arm, hindering the fighter's ability to defend himself.

The "Get him!" appears to have been intended for the short kobold. One quick hop and he's got Froodle in a flank with the glowing one. He gives a mighty squawk and drives his spear at Froodle, in possibly the best attack of its career. Froodle is not seriously harmed, but it's possible he's impressed with the ganger's ferocity.

Finally, the challenged skirmisher, the tall one, tries to lay its vengeance upon its attacker. The hit is another surprisingly good one, but nothing mortal.

During all this, the trap has been winding up again. It ejects another dart at Rottimer, but this one misses its mark and the ranger remains free to move.

Re: The Tomb

Froodle notices the Bright skirmisher move in behind him, he smiles inwardly, there are three of them now. Memories of his days as a youngster come flooding back. The days when he and other young dragonborn would playfight, when he always came out on top throwing them around because of his greater strength.

Now though, it was a little more serious, he brought his thoughts back to his current situation. The skirmishers were like his friends of old, small and annoyingly should be no challenge. But here, they were using spears. They were finding ways through his armour. “Respect where it is due” he thought, they could fight, even if they were puny.

He considered his options, the tall and short skirmishers had remained in front of him and Frug’s deft move had created enough of a gap for some carefully aimed flame. With a great draconic roar he sent flame over the tall and short skirmishers. In trying to not set light to Frug, though, his aim was slightly off, the flames only catching the shorter kobold, who now lay dead with wisps of smoke rising from his charred body.

Time to use this axe to full effect he thought to himself, letting out another yell as he swung the axe wide cleaving through the tall skirmisher, all the way round to the bright skirmisher behind him, but again his aim was off. He was now wondering whether he needed a new battleaxe, this one seemed to be unbalanced.

His eyes remained on the tall skirmisher, beckoning him on to fight (combat challenge)

Re: The Tomb

Frug sees the pile up on Froodle and when the Tall skirmisher lands an attack he says, “By Onatar’s forge I rebuke you.” A gear of radiant light goes near the back of the Tall Skirmisher. Swirling the avenging light of radiant power up on his staff and lifting it up to send the blast, it goes free early and hits the ceiling. At the same moment the staff falls out of Frugs hand. Picking up the staff Frug mumbles something about his clumsy action and walks towards the armor that has been shooting darts.

Re: The Tomb

Rottimer was still trying to find the source of the darts as he heard a mechanical click and another whizzed by. They seemed to be coming from near the suits of armor. Then he saw Froodle get surrounded and realized that it was intentional. Why else would a massive Dragonborn be calling all attackers to him, exposing one to ranged fire. Rottimer liked to think it was because the Dragonborn had appreciated the deftness with which Rottimer was able to assail multiple nearby targets from a distance, but knowing Dragonborn, it was more likely to be Froodle having a little fun with seemingly less than dangerous enemies. In any case, Rottimer decided to see if he couldn't convince Froodle just how formidable such a combination of melee prowess and ranged accuracy could be. Having a target exposed made it a little easier, but still no small feat. Once again, he placed two arrows on his bow string and loaded the bow with tension. His eyes narrowed as he assessed the distance, took a slow breath and released. The first shot landed in the glowing target with a satisfying thud just before the skirmisher hit the ground and slid to a stop in front of Froodle. The second shot skipped off the Tall Skirmishers armor. Rottimer cursed under his breath for not remembering one of his techniques that might have been useful here. Next time he wouldn't be so careless.

Re: The Tomb

Drake observes that the battle seeing that it is almost finished and the decimation that the Frug and Rottimer have wrought on the enemy. He can smell the blood and vile stench of the dead Skirmishers surrounding Froodle and notes the blood flowing freely from
Froodles wounds. Hmm let’s see if we can rectify this as he then casts his eye at the tall Skirmisher.

Drake closes and stands once again next to Froodle he reaches across and places his fist  on Froodles shield arm whilst invoking Bahamuts help in staunching these wounds. ‘ I will
Restore you brother’ he tells Froodle.  He focuses and says a prayer to Bahamut light emanates from Froodles wounds which Knit together before Drakes eyes until they disappear completely.

Time to deal with this last Skirmisher.

‘Time to die rat’ announces Drake, who swings his sword and pray’s that Bahamut will guide his hand, the longsword again lites the room leaving a trail of light behind as it cleaves into the Tall Skirmisher, who cries out as his side is opened wide, blood gushing onto the floor, the Tall Skirmisher looks in shock at the extent of the wound, then dies as his remaining life drains from him and he collapses in a heap of mangled Limbs, blood and bone.

‘It’s about time we dispensed with these vermin. Honour to us,  I’m proud to stand alongside you all.’

Move: Move to stand next to Froodle and engage with Tall
Skirmisher

Minor Action: Lay and on Hands boosted by healing hands feat (Froodles healing surge value and 1 healing surge spent by Drake)  10+4 hit points back Froodle fully healed

Standard Action: Holy Strike Strength v AC
1D20+8 = 19 v AC 15 = HIT

Damage 1D10+5 = 14 = DEAD

Froodle: (34/34; 19/16/14/11) Between coffins stood surrounded by dead Skirmisher’s.

Re: The Tomb

Froodle looks around, the blood stained bodies of the skirmishers give him a sense of pleasure, the only disappointment that he didn't kill them all himself. Of course he is glad of the actions of his friends and companions. A great team effort.

He spends some time studying his axe, but despite it's apparent unwillingness to strike true he can't see anything actually wrong with it.

Time to rest up and look around. He takes care moving between the coffins, suspecting there must be some sort of trigger there that caused the dart traps to fire at Rottimer. As he mulls over it's purpose he considers that it must be designed to slow adventurers down by blocking the entrance so the room occupants can deal with just the front invaders. "Shame for them it was a drogonborn" he sniggers.

He decides to let others have a look at the traps first, knowing that disarming and patient searching are not his strong points

Froodle slowly searches the room rolling 10 using d20+1 perception
If there is a disarmed trap after others have taken a look he will attempt to disarm one rolling a 22 using d20+2 thievery skill

Re: The Tomb

Rottimer remains somewhat tense as he unsure what caused the trap to fire or if it will again. Before moving, he looks down at where he stands and the path he travelled trying to determine if he hit a trip wire or perhaps stepped on a triggering stone. Once he is satisfied, he will move around the coffin continuing to search for a trigger.

In reply to Rottimer Lind (msg # 24):

Drake looks at the remains and carefully begins to search the room seeing what can be discovered and avoiding if he can any traps.

He wonders if the successful missile or magic attacks were the trigger for the traps as his own poor attempt missed and he wasn’t attacked.

‘Have you found anything?’ he asks the others

Re: The Tomb

With the active threat ended, it's a simple matter to determine the function of the trap. It appears to have been designed to target people who got too close to the coffins. The trigger mechanisms don't appear sensitive to smaller folk, however.

Further searching reveals a small stash of coins near the altar. The motley assortment of denominations from across the continent and recent history would work out to about 60 gold pieces. It's a start.
