Disney Tournament Round 1

ooc: Since everybody but James has answered the basic lifestyle question I've asked, I'm getting us started. James has to answer his thread before he can join in.

January 7th, 2073
Amarillo, TX
Sunny, 58 degrees

On January 7th, 2073, thousands of teams all over the world embarked on Disney's grand 150th Anniversary gaming tournament. There weren't enough Augmented Reality arenas for all the teams to play simultaneously, so they were staggered throughout the day, each team getting about an hour to set up and play.

For the Positron Punishers, their first game was at 2pm in an outdoor arena in the Amarillo desert - in January, thankfully, so the air was cool, because there were no handicaps for seasonal conditions of the arena.

They weren't the worst team in the world by far - but to make it past the first round of cuts, they had to beat the scores of 512 other teams over the course of the first six months of the tournament. And then they'd have to do better than 256 more teams by the end of the year.

With odds like that, it wasn't about winning. No. It was about getting the attention of sponsors and boosting the team - and its players' - profile.

Disney Tournament Round 1

Henry, the team's coach and manager, stepped out of the van that'd taken the group from the Amarillo airport to the inconspicuous spot in the desert, marked only by simple ceramic pylons marking the edge of the augmented reality field.

"Ten minutes, people, get your gear on." He started walking towards the simple operations structure where the Disney officials would be waiting, to get the rules and any special gear needed for the event.

As for their basic equipment, each player had the standard visor, gloves, and bodysuit designed for use in the Games. This had been provided by Disney, and while there were more efficient and powerful high-end consumer-grade products, it ensured that every team would be playing the same game, regardless of resources.

ooc: The visor provides you with augmented reality sensory input so you can see and react to game entities and instructions. It also incorporates a headcam and radio for team communication, and recording/streaming a feed from your POV.

The gloves allow you to interact with and manipulate virtual objects - as do any weapons provided by the game scenario. The bodysuit allows for force feedback, and for the game's AI to judge when you've been hit by hazards or enemies.

On the back of the bodysuit is a microcomputer that acts as an interface with the arena's computer.

Remember to give the other PCs time to respond after you post. We all have different schedules!

Disney Tournament Round 1

G breaths a sigh of relief as he leaves the van. When he heard they would be competing in the desert, he worried about how hot it would get. The coolness of the January was a welcomed surprised.

He quickly checks his gear, making sure everything is in working order and well synchronized.

EDIT: adjusted from GM clarifications.

Disney Tournament Round 1

Having suited up in her physically customized but digitally identical gear long before her own smaller van came to a stop the tiny woman known to everyone only as Mystic Seas strolls down the auto deploying ramp to join the others for the briefing.

Waiting now only for whatever last minute, secret, additions this particular event would require she finds herself a patch of shade next to the larger vehicle to get out of the glare even if the overall temperature is just about right for some light exercise.

Scion isn't even worried he stretches some after donning his gear. Does a slow jog around the vans. And then settles down after two laps. He is trying to get limber and loose as opposed to sweat induced crazy. He then pulls out his "phone" logs into "Twitch" and records his first stream of the tourney

"Well guys Day 1 of the Disney 150 yr tourney. That's right the tourney we have all been waiting for is finally underway. I'm recording this before we, The Positron Punishers, take the field for the first time. Trust me when I say you want in on the ground floor of our fan base because when we win this thing it's gonna be a dark horse situation. No one is gonna see us coming. And for our OG fans we shall see something I don't know what just yet but something special. Later guys and gals TheLastScion Oooouuuutttt!!!!"

Disney Tournament Round 1

Anna blinked and squinted as she emerged from the van. That sun was annoying, she hoped it would not be too much of an issue for the match. She wondered if the others were equally annoyed, then again they did not have middle-aged eyes like she did; growing old was a bitch.

She gave a good stretch, testing out the tightness of the suit. It felt fine and from a reflection in a nearby mirror, looked damn good on her in shape figure. She gave a little smile at that; it just might win them some more fans, at least the ones that were into MILF's. Hey, she would take what she could get. Speaking of fans, she wondered if her family was watching. Just in case, she waved, saying hi to her husband and son, and saying  "wish me luck."

The equipment was standard issue, not the good stuff like she practiced with, but it would do for this. Anna would just have to remember it's limitations. See that everything was good, the older woman joined the others and gave them a warm smile. "Well, I hope we're ready for this, I'll sure we'll do well."

Tansom nods to Anna, taking a brief moment to eye her body. She DID look good in her suit, though he isn't about to let that escalate beyond the purely professional relationship they have.

Fame is not a huge thing for him either; he knows he's definitely past his prime and hasn't been gifted with the looks of a silver fox either. To him, the suit does nothing more than highlight his ugliness; he'd sooner compete in casual clothes than wearing it. Still, it comes with the territory, and it's reassuring to know he doesn't have to constantly plow his budget into staying on the cutting edge.

That said, it's new, and therefore unfamiliar. He takes a while to familiarize himself with it, and does a brief comms check.

"Mike test, testing one two... Give me a thumbs up if you hear this."

The radio crackles to life and the gain on the Mike was a little high so he adjusted it real quick. Then he gave the thumbs up.

As a last minute preparation, G sets his personal computer to record his video feed. He doesn't stream personally, but he does like to review his footage to figure out the game's AI. Plus, maybe the others will want extra camera angles for their highlights reel.
