"I suppose the obvious place to start is to follow the stone construct's footprints back to where it came from," suggested Joy. Even if the tracks ultimately led to where their map indicated anyway, it still might provide them some clues. "Alternatively, I could try turning into a painted dog from my homeland to try tracking by smell." She looked mostly to Kaj, the most outdoorsy-looking member of their group other than herself, to see what he thought. But of course everyone's opinions were welcome.

Upon leaving the Mages' Tower, Kaj spots dozens of people swarming over the are around the stone golem.  He grimaces.  The trail there is all but wiped out.  He instead proceeds to the street just outside.  Though some markings have been stomped out by crowds gathering despite orders to stay inside, Kaj is able to find long scrapes of stone on stone, wide enough to be the feet of the golem.

"This way," he says to his partners.

using arcane art to give Kaj the effect "The next time someone successfully assists the target with aid, they get +2 instead of +1"

19:05, Today: Seraphene rolled 9 using 2d6+2.  arcane art.

On a 7-9, your spell still works, but you draw unwanted attention or your magic reverberates to other targets affecting them as well, GM’s choice.

Sorry. I'm new to the rules. I'm not quite sure how the benefit works, but I figure try it out now.  Does Kaj get a +2 now or the next time someone helps him? Either way it's a plus.

It's only a partial success so there's some kind of side effect.

Even in the rain, it is easy to follow the stone-on-stone scratches of the constructs' footsteps. You follow the track 5 blocks down the road from the tower, into an alley. there it ends.

Seraphene does help Kaj and the next one to help him track. what performance do you use?

As Seraphene performs her piece a bar fight breaks out in the building next to you. 5 angry drunk dwarfs chasing 4 Half-orcs. The orcs run down the same alley, right in your way. the angry dwarfs follow.

the alley is now suddenly crowded, you six, the four half-orcs, the five dwarfs and they are swinging.

we are all learning, so no worries

Also, in case I forget again, I also get a +2 from my lynx's cunning.  Can I add that into my last roll retroactively?  If so, that puts me at 10 , which means I can "Gain a useful bit of information about your quarry, the GM will tell you what."

Help! A ton of unattractive people are having a drunken brawl within swinging distance of Phirosalle's all-too-breakable face!

He does the first thing he can think of and speaks an incantation, trying to make one of the dwarfs - them being the numerically superior side - see him as a friend who should absolutely not be punched. That still leaves eight punch-happy nitwits to worry about, but one thing at the time.

Joy had heard of bar room brawls, but had never been in a bar and so had never had the chance to experience one. So she was excited to see that she might get the chance, albeit unexpectedly. The little halfling stood among the dwarves and orcs looking ready to join in. "We probably shouldn't do this, true. But if we're gonna do this, come at me! Show me what you've got!"

She had nothing against orcs, but it seemed Phirosalle was good buddies with one of the dwarves and of course Bailor was a dwarf himself. So Joy kicked things off by leaping into the air to deliver a roundhouse kick to one of the orc's faces. "No killing. Just BRAWL!" The dawarfs put down their fists and swards at Bailors words, however the half-orcs dont appear to care. Half orc 2You cant talk about my Moma that way, she a good woman" He takes a swing at the nearest person. Darwarf 1

Joy Weaver:
Joy had heard of bar room brawls, but had never been in a bar and so had never had the chance to experience one. So she was excited to see that she might get the chance, albeit unexpectedly. The little halfling stood among the dwarves and orcs looking ready to join in. "We probably shouldn't do this, true. But if we're gonna do this, come at me! Show me what you've got!"

So Joy kicked things off by leaping into the air to deliver a roundhouse kick to one of the orc's faces. "No killing. Just BRAWL!" Her short little leg only dealt a glancing blow, but at least it connected.
Joy has attacked half orc 4. Her foot got him in the nose and made him sneeze. He laugs at heryou are punney he takes a swing at her. His closed fist comes in fast.

Coraxa:
At first Coraxa was not excited for another fight, she was still sore. Then Joy jumps out and stomps one of the orcs in the face. Oh well bar fights were fun.

Siting back waiting, none of the Half orcs has noticed her yet

"Ahhhh! Not in the face, not in the face!" he wails and swings the dagger wildly around him, hoping to keep any attackers from getting too close.
Swining the sward around willy nilly. The orcs have not got to close yet.
 D 3 ( charmed ) stays by his side

K'ajoranguarssuak:
At the mere mention of dwarves, Kaj raises his spear, reday to skewer the first dwarf he sees.  But he doesn't see any.  Just one group of odd-looking orcs and another of short humans with very impressive beards.  Normally, he'd attack the orcs without hesitation, but dwarves?  Orcs couldn't hold a candle to the sheer wickedness and black malevolence of dwarves.

"Where are the dwarves?" he exclaims, too alarmed to even speak Common.  "Where are they?!"

Half Orc 3 takes a leaping jump at D3 but over estimates and is now about to land on Kaj.

Half orc 1 beats on his cheast. He howls in to the rain. He points at Bailor. Makes the come hither motion " come show me your dance"

Assuming Bailor shares what he learned:

"Gateway to the spices?" asked Joy, confused. Then a look of realization crossed her face. "The merchants who pass through my village always seem to have a bunch of spices with them. And the map we have starts at the merchant's house, right? I say we go investigate the obvious, obviously. To the merchant's house? I can cover the back if someone else covers the front."

Probably more than one person would be on each side of the house, but it seemed wise to have at least one person watching each side.

The druid took to the sky and went to spy in a few windows to see if she could pick up on any clues.

What happened here recently?

Green blood and red blood. The wrong decorations put on the pedestals. Broken things cleaned in a hurry..."

She let the others paint the mental picture themselves. Joy was pretty sure they would find some goblins still here, having taken over the building for themselves very recently.

Joy did similar as Coraxa, but to the left room. She checked behind the bed curtains, opened the window curtains, and peeked in the closet and bathroom to make sure nobody was hiding there. She even checked underneath the bed. If she found nobody, however, she would ready herself to check the next pair of rooms with the others.

Glad that the elves opted to talk to the little kid, Joy rushed over to help with the goblins instead. She was not well known for her way with words, so she would leave the comforting to the professionals.

The halfling druid sidled up next to Coraxa and stood in a defensive position in case the goblins tried anything against herself or her ally. "What's the plan with these two?" she asked as she stood with her shillelagh between herself and the goblins. She was probably severely underestimating the goblins though, because she only afforded them about half of her full attention...

Joy smiled at Coraxa's reply to the goblins. She was glad she had left the talking to someone better with words than herself. Once the door was closed and the goblins out of view, Joy relaxed a bit and shifted her attention to the unsearched areas. "It sounds like their boss is probably still nearby, too," she commented discretely. "Keep your guards up. I'll take a peek in the rooms ahead."

Joy moved forward, knowing they surely had lost the element of surprise now. She wasn't afraid of a few goblins though. And so she held her shillelagh ready and searched the next room on her side of the hall, keeping her senses sharp for any hints of further danger.

As the boy ran down the hall and the elves made an effort to catch him, Joy's keen ears picked up on some whimpering coming from behind one of the doors. Probably the other kid, her mind realized, just as the boy made to barge into the opposite room without the whimpering.

With Phirosalle being the one chasing him, and Joy knowing the elf smelled more like prey than hunter himself, Joy knew she needed to lend a hand to his efforts. She lurched forward to help pull the boy back to safety, interposeing her own body between the boy and whatever might be lurking in the room.

Redirect an attack from the thing you defend to yourself
Halve the attack’s effect or damage
Open up the attacker to an ally giving that ally +1 forward against the attacker
Deal damage to the attacker equal to your level

Thankfully when the orcs appeared, Joy had already been anticipating danger. Even with her back to her enemy, the tiny warrior knew to use their height difference to her advantage. In one graceful motion Joy dipped down to the floor and spun in a circle, swinging her shillelagh in a wide and low arc that angles upward at the last moment to strike her enemy at a weak point.

Then she took Kaj's advice and retreated a bit. She took momentary refuge behind Coraxa's powerful frame. Although unfortunately not without leaving an opening for potential retaliation from her foes first. However, Coraxa's distraction may have minimized that specific risk.

"Let 'em have it!" the halfling yelled.

Joy was satisfied that she had managed to connect with her shillelagh without getting hit herself. Thanks to her allies. But now the halfling was done smacking people with sticks and was ready to unleash some primal power upon these orcs! She drew upon the wellspring of animals within her and called a specific form to her aid. They were in close quarters this time, so her rhino form was not appropriate. She called upon a smaller (compared to a rhino) canine form that was extremely ferocious for its size.

The halflings hands became paws, her snout elongated and became lined with powerful sharp teeth, and her hide became coated with thick brown spotted fur. Except her mane, which took the form of her druidic tell. Her mane looked like the dried grasses of the savannah she called home.

With the transformation to a hyena complete, Joy snarled and lunged for the nearest orc to help take them down.

"Ah, er, do you want to see what I can do?" Phirosalle says with faint desperation to his living leg-fetter. "Behold! The mysteries of the arcane!"

He waves his hands, and a glowing figure appears on the floor in front of the boy, formed from transparent silver light. It shifts and flickers from one heartbeat to the next, one moment humanoid, the next a horse, the third a tree, then a leaping fish, a prancing deer, a soaring eagle.

Hopefully this will distract the boy enough to make him release his grip somewhat. Phirosalle is starting to worry about his circulation.

Seraphene recognized the boys emotional state, and Phirosalle's discomfort at being a babysitter. She knelt down next to the boy and said, "we know this is scary, but we're going to help you and your sister. I need you to stay with me for your safety." she held her arms out to the boy.

She said to the others, "I heard wimpering from the last door. It could be the little girl, but I don't know if there's anyone else there. Does anyone need healing before we go in?"

10:23, Today: Seraphene rolled 13 using 2d6+2.  parley with the boy.

Joy stood at the ready when Coraxa motioned for someone to stand by. She was still a hyena and tried not to look too much like a savage animal, despite the orc blood still staining her mouth. The shapeshifted halfling had heard the same whimpering as Seraphene had and was assuming it was the missing sister. Not another foe. Still, the adventurer was ready for anything when the door was opened.

AS Coraxa opens the door" Come. Out here. Little giurl. I wont hurt you." Phirosalle immediately feels somewhat more positively disposed to the miniature human. Someone who appreciates the intrinsic coolness of his magic can't be all bad!

"Indeed we are!" he says. "We're bold, dashing, valiant and extremely handsome (well, some of us more than others, admittedly)! We're on a quest to save the land from a sinister evil, just as soon as we've worked out precisely what it is."

He raises his hands to the start of a mystical gesture and cautiously advances after Coraxa as he hears the unpleasant voice from the room beyond. If he's fated to be the protector of all human children, he supposes he'd better step to it...

After the door was opened and the orc was revealed, Joy rushed in. She didn't know exactly where the little boy's sister was hiding, but Joy assumed she was in the room somewhere. Perhaps under the giant bed? At any rate, Joy interposed herself between the orc and the most likely hiding places, ready to defend the child with all of the ferocity a mother hyean would use to defend her own pups.

I would like to use my last Hold to use the hyena move: "defend younglings with motherly ferociousness." The youngling she is defending is the sister that Joy assumes is in the room, hiding from the orc. Once she is done using the move, she automatically returns to being a halfling.

As you wish. seraphenes voice booms off the walls. For all to hear. Now there are there more bodies coming up from the basement. Bailor. they are stomping with heavy foot falls.

Coraxa peeks under the bed and the little girl screams " DONT EAT ME" she scurries to the head of the bed. Curls in to the smallest ball she can. Her brother breaks away from Seraphene arms to run to his sister. "Calli" he crys out .

The orc club hits Joy ( 1D10) He grunts as she lands fist aft er fist. He laughs. " you tiny thing. He reaches up to peel her off and toss her away. But is hit with the searing beam of light. He stagers back. " you no match for mighty Boro. He beats his chest.

Damage taken from orc:
20:43, Today: Joy Weaver rolled 3 using 1d10.  damage taken, before armor.
That is 2 damage after armor is applied. Got lucky.

"Tiny doesn't mean weak!" Joy snapped back, barely registering the fresh wounds the orc's weapon had inflicted. Luckily her close proximity and the toughness of her hide armor made sure that the orc's attack hadn't been nearly as powerful as it rightfully should have been.

Even as Phirosalle's magic helped to prevent tho orc from tossing her across the room, the tiny halfling maneuvered to the orc's back and used her shillelagh as a choker of sorts. With one hand on either end of the weapon, and the weapon itself against "Mighty Boro's" neck, Joy used her leverage to pull back with all her might to try and choke the life out of the powerful foe.

Using Hack and Slash.
20:54, Today: Joy Weaver rolled 10 using 2d6+2.  Hack and Slash vs Boro the orc.

Joy had her enemy right where she wanted him, with her shillelagh slowly crushing his windpipe. But the orc wasn't completely dumb, and tried to crush her against the wall. Joy didn't want to loosen her stranglehold if she didn't have to, which left her little choice but to brace her legs against the wall that would otherwise crush her. She would need to power through the pain and endure the orc's gambit long enough to get her enemy unconscious. "Go. Down. You. Big. Brute!" She yelled one word at a time between gritted teeth.

Joy will Defy Danger to try and keep her chokehold despite the orc trying to crush her against the wall. If it counts as "Powering Through," she gets +2. If it counts as "Enduring," she gets +1. Either way, I rolled high enough for a full success!

Joy released her hold on her opponent when it was clear he wouldn't be getting up again. She wasn't sure if the orc was dead or just unconscious, but didn't have time to check at the moment. And it didn't matter much in the short term. The halfling turned her attention to the other orc in the room and rushed forward with her weapon in hand.

"No calling dibs when kids' lives are on the line!" Joy replied to Kaj's question to Coraxa. She was making it clear that she still intended to attack the orc even if Coraxa was hoping to do one on one combat. However, Joy didn't even think that was the case. Tane seemed to be the name of the weapon that the orc wanted from Coraxa, and not the name of the orc. But Joy hadn't been paying that close of attention, so she could be wrong.

At any rate, the raging druid that was Joy ran into melee and took a leaping flyby swing at their orc opponent. But perhaps she was a bit too ambitious with her frenzied attacks...

"If there are 'somethings' coming from the basement, I suggest we prepare ourselves. Can anyone make use of what the orcs had on them?" She figured at the very least Coraxa might want to wear some temporary armor if the dead orcs had any to spare. Joy herself wouldn't have minded something to use as a shield, but with her transformative abilities it would hardly be a necessity. "I also suggest we put something heavy at the top of the stairs to push it down on any would-be enemy armies approaching." Joy looked for a trunk of clothing or something to drag over to the top of the steps.

A well dressed man suddenly comes through the window. He is slightly glowing at the time, and that seems to keep him from being cut to ribbons. He also does not seem to be leaping through the window, as much as he was tossed through it. The glow fades as soon as he rises.

"Ow..." Booker says, getting up. "My shirt! That orc bastard nearly ruined my shirt! This is Casmirian silk you loathsome oafs!" He yells out the window he just came through, most likely at whoever tossed him through it. He gestures with the blade in his hand, and the parrying dagger in the other. He seems to be calling to someone. "Bricklin! Up here!"

He finally pauses and realizes he is not alone. "Ummm...hello? Dreadfully sorry. I am willing to pay for your window...ah...eventually." He says to the group.

Re: On the hunt

The sounds of screaming and violence pour through the shattered window like a tidal wave. They are drowned for a moment by a shout “Booker, you loathsome coward! There is still blood to be shed!” A minute passes, and the brutal soundtrack dies down with a gurgling moan.

In a flash and flurry of blade and bone and brightly colored cloth, a halfling tumbles through the window. He stands to his full height of 3 feet. In one hand is an excessively large sword nearly two heads taller than himself. His chest is covered by straps of leather and a bandolier of fangs, teeth, and claws. He is wearing a brightly colored skirt of rough cloth that comes down to his ankles.

He plucks a rather large shard of glass from the hobgoblin skull on his shoulder and tosses it out the window. He glances at the others gathered in the hallway. “Our apologies. There were orcs outside. They threw him inside. Now we will return outside.” His voice is deeper than you would imagine a halfling’s could sound. He focuses on the other halfling in the hallway for a moment. “Nice hair.”

Joy was a bit caught off-guard by the new arrivals. The first reminded her a lot of Phirosalle for some reason. The type wo was probably more suited for society than the wilds. The second arrival was a lot more rough around the edges, like herself. And was also a halfling, like herself. And... he had complimented her grassy hair?

"Nice fang collection," she replied, even before she had realized she was doing so. "There's more orcs? Is that what is about to come up the stairs? If so, feel free to stick around a bit. I'm Joy."

Even if Booker and Bricklin weren't good with the weapons they wielded (and she was assuming they were), they could at least help distract whatever was coming.

In reply to Master of Tales (msg # 197):

"That...sounds like a lot of orcs. Oh boy..." Booker says. He swipes his sabre through the air, carving letters of light as the blade makes pass after pass.

"Bricklin, I challenge you...to a duel...of fashion!" Booker says the last part very quickly, thus insuring the non dangerous form of the arcane duel. Plus he rather suspected the halfing might enjoy an actual duel between them a bit too much. Mostly because Booker would lose.

Bricklin had seen this form of 'challenge' before. Because the arcane dueling style required some form of conflict, it could be quite literal. However, by Booker setting the terms he could create a ward around both of them with no bad effects.

The ward itself was a glowing orb around each one of them, connected by a corridor of light between ether protective bubble. The ward would keep out anyone trying to harm ether of them, and deflect projectiles away. However, they would be able to attack each other.

It was clear Booker thought many attacks where incoming. In Bricklin's ship, the sword mage used this technique to allow both of them to board enemy vessels without having to worry about stray projectiles getting a lucky shot.

"Stay behind us!" Booker called out to the others. Thus forcing the orcs to waste time and ammo on the two protected figures, rather than the rest of the group.

Re: On the hunt

Joy wasn't certain exactly what tactic Booker and Bricklin were attempting, but if the pair wanted to be living shields for the rest of them, Joy wasn't going to complain. Besides, the narrow corridor was going to be much too crowded if all of them tried to stand on the front lines at the same time. But perhaps Joy could make a bit more space. She wasn't very big to start with, but she could become even smaller without sacrificing any of her lethality.

"Okay, you guys do what you need to do. I'm going to work on losing some weight. Do NOT hurt the snake if you see one. That will be me." And with that, Joy called upon the spirits of her homeland. She became a sleek grey serpent (with grasses still sprouting from her back due to her druidic tell) that had a pitch black mouth. She was limbless, but could still slither faster than most humans could run, and her poison was among the deadliest of any non-magical creature. She was a black Mamba.

so as the three goblins begain to strike at Booker, he cleaves at them with his blade and one falls dead. the other 2 are bleeding heavly. but still on their feet.

Joy Weaver:
Joy's serpentine body darted between the feet of her allies like a slither of dark lightning toward the biggest cluster of goblins. And she wasn't even going full speed! Since the goblins didn't seem to be paying her much mind, Joy took the opportunity to lash out at the goblin that was directing the others and sank her fangs into their foot. She then recoiled and struck a menacing pose at the other goblins. Her pitch black gums flashed in warning to try and frighten the more weak-minded of their foes. "Hhhhhhhhh!"

I am attempting to use my two Hold on the moves listed below as quickly as feasible. After using her second Hold, Joy will automatically return to her halfling form. Likely amidst the pack of six goblins. Or what is left of them at that time. ;-)

Bite with deadly poison. Fell one creature of med size.
Frighten weak minded foes.

the two here flee.

Thats 6 goblins down gone

Joy Snake form kills the one attacking Balior
one more down. (3 left)

Coraxa moves, while not so gracefully and less efficient then hoped, to attack. she was still effective and managed to hit something, but it left her open for other attacks.

"I'm not going to help you though. Doesn't feel right. Even if it does make sense." Even lions and gazelles could coexist peacefully on rare occasions. At least for short periods of time.

"As for the young ones. Maybe someone should escort them to somewhere away from this building? Maybe you, Seraphene? I know they have taken a liking to Phirosalle, but I think they might end up smudging his robes or something." She smirked at Phirosalle. If Joy wasn't mistaken, the elf seemed averse to getting his hands dirty, let alone his clothes. And children were notorious mess-makers.

Bricklin laughed at Booker’s comment as they wiped the goblin blood from their giant blade. “Come now, Booker! ‘Twas but a jest! I’ve told you once if I’ve told you a hundred times - it matters not if you win, but how strongly you believe in yourself!” He gave Booker a hearty slap on the lower back (as he was too short to reach his shoulders). “You are a fine specimen of battle-ready fashion.”

He paused as he heard Kaj speak to the remaining goblins. He readied his blade once more, a deadly look overtaking his face. He glares deeply at the goblins. “Friends? With goblins?” He directs his attention to the elf. “Friend elf, you’d best be careful trusting anything a goblin might say. They’re naught but liars, and even if they somehow tell the truth, they’ll alert their friends or stab you in the back at the first opportunity!”

"If you don't go with option one, I suggest having us kill you over the authorities; it'll be much quicker and we'll try to make it as painless as possible.  Probably slit your throats.  One quick cut and it's over in a minute.  Slowly wasting away in prison is no way to go."

Re: On the hunt

Joy followed Bricklin to the basement, attempting to use exactly as much stealth (or lack thereof) as the halfling barbarian was. She grinned back at Phirosalle as the wizard followed her. She felt like she was truly in her element. Following a fellow halfling into a near-certain battle while also leading a tidy elf into a messy situation. What could be more perfect than that?

Re: On the hunt

Kaj follows right behind the halflings.  having a front line of halflings is nice -- he can shoot arrows all day long and not worry about accidentally hitting them.

Re: On the hunt

As the team heads down in to the basement they find huddled in the corner a hand full of people. One well dressed, yet disheveled, man. He stands in a defensive manner above the others. While in the center of the room you see two men. One a younger copy of the man in the corner, and the other a greasy  haired man with a crocked nose. And Brin, he cowers on his knees to the greasy haired man.

as the first foot lands on the floor the 'Mr Greasy' takes a step back waves his hands around and fires a fire ball at the stair way.

Like the others, Joy attempted to throw herself clear of the incoming fireball. Her grassy hair was much too flammable right now to be exposing it to such heat.

11:44, Today: Joy Weaver rolled 7 using 2d6.  Defy Danger + Dex, avoiding fireball.

Re: On the hunt

*Bricklin utters a foul curse in some guttural language, then helps Joy leap out of the way of the fireball by shoving her away. He attempts to launch himself in the opposite direction, but his reaction time isn't quite fast enough. He does manage to save Joy from the worst of the roiling flames, but he isn't so lucky, unfortunately.*

Re: On the hunt

screams erupt from those cowered in the corner.

it seams most of you were able to avoid direct damage. as take 1d8 halved fire, or 1d4 damage because you run in to, or got pushed, in a wall, crate or some thing.

Coraxa manages to duck low enough to bypass the fire ball, and rushes the Greasy man taking them to wall behind, as they pass the younger man produces a small blade and swipes at Coraxa.

the well dressed man in the corner begins to usher his people out towards the stairs, " out out" he whispers to them, but does leave himself.

Brin stands up with his blade drawn. He stand shifting his stance from thoes just entering, and to Greasy man, and the stairs. he is conflicted, does he defend and help his master or flee?

Kaj is half white from a bag of flour that toppled onto him.  "I'm going to assume that fireball was because you thought we were orcs," he says to the greasy man between coughs.  "For now."

"Brin, who is this man?"

18:10, Today: K'ajoranguarssuak rolled 1 using 1d4.  damage.

So far tonight, I've rolled a one, a two, a one, a two, and a one.  At least this one I like.
