I think we need general guidelines for character creation. Races allowed? Pt-buy, rolled stats, or pre-gen array? Traits? Background Skills?

Fairly certain, but whatever was loaded into the Request for Access needs to be reprinted here. I cannot access that anymore, and I cannot remember his guidelines.

Character creation outline

All Player Characters will start as level 1 heroes newly recruited into the Black Company. I will be running the game with Pathfinder 1st edition rules. All characters must be human -- no demi-humans (dwarfs, elves, orcs, etc.) exist in this world. The story line is loosely based on the novels by Glen Cook.

You may choose any class you wish provided you can send me a link to a valid definition of that class (or subclass). The math is up to you. All characters will assign these primary stats as they wish before making adjustments for their chosen class:
  • 16
  • 15
  • 14
  • 14
  • 12
  • 10

Your Request to Join application should take the form of a post in which your character presents themselves at the recruitment table, set out in the public square, and explains why they think they are a good recruit for the Company to hire. Don’t worry about a character sheet until you are accepted. When it does come time to outfit your character you will be provided gear by the company and expected to use it. You will be allowed to select one specialty weapon in addition that you can carry. Standard weapons are short sword and small shield with chain vest for infantry, Crossbow and spear with leather armor for artillery. Personal weapons allowed might include a throwing ax, a mace, a sling, etc. You will not be allowed to carry long swords, great axes, halberds, etc. while in uniform -- and you will always be in uniform.

Magic users will be trained to support the war mages. Clerics will be trained to Heal the wounded. Rogues will be welcome in the supply chain.

The trappings are military with a goal to make and support a fighting force, but there will be a story line that runs parallel with the basic training and patrol routines in which the PC’s will be able to follow their own initiative

So, if I understand correctly, Heavy blades are a no-no, and if you're a strength monster, you're screwed?

Standard 2 traits, right?

Background Skills?

Blargh, I missed the weapon and armor limitation. Clearly I failed my reading check. :-p I think I might pivot to rogue if that's okay.

You will be expected to look like Black Company soldiers in town. Think of Roman Legionaries:

Yes, two traits unless you have some obscure class that allows more -- then you must send me a link to a valid definition of the class.

Background Skill option is fine.

Re: Character creation outline

With short sword as the gladius?
So no cutlass, scimitar, or saber allowed as personal weapon? This character will be going the two-weapon route, except that few (if any) legionnaires weilded 2 weapons. Is TWF a no-no as well?

Re: Character creation outline

Just a quick question on the stat array. Does that include the +2 for human racial bonus?

Re: Character creation outline

It stated the array was BEFORE racial adjustments.
