Re: Out of Game
My apologies for my insane skill point spread. I hate scattering points out like that, especially when I have Bardic Knack - it's messy and unfocused. But a bunch of things I wanted demanded it.

Re: Out of Game
Am I weird for just taking max rank in a few skills on basically all my characters? I suppose for classes that get 2+int it doesn't really work but for others I mean...but I feel like it's intended for one not to want to do that...

Re: Out of Game
I normally go for classes with plenty of skill points :) But first come ranks essential to the build (for prestige classes or whatever), then those likely to be used most frequently (hopefully maxxed out). A few here and there for wanted ones that cannot be used untrained; a few that are just nice or for synergy. No hard and fast method really.

Re: Out of Game
So FYI I've the program I've been working on for the past 3-Years has decided to move into pure theoretical work, making my role as an Engineer unnecessary. I've got several internal leads probably will have minimal disruption hopefully, but I'll be extra distracted for a while.

Re: Out of Game
So how does this sound: All the characters are in the one party. They've been off somewhere having adventures (mostly travelling on Carnado's ship) and Anna's decided it's time to see how things are going at home (or she gets a message from home), so the ship sails into Tidelost and they find out the exact extent of the situation.

Feel free to post on board. I apologize ahead of time if my depiction of naval realities is wildly inaccurate. Either roll with it or point me to good information to correct my error.

Re: Out of Game
Dunno why but whenever I make a "timeless" character such as a fey or an outsider I always have to make some nerdy math thing about their age somewhere...

Well, on Aerie's sheet, under "age" I just put "yes" so you know I guess I'm just being cheeky...

Re: Out of Game
Everyone's got their quirks when they build characters.

I end up browsing random D&D 3.blah books after building one which often result in finding utterly weird buried things. Like an archer prestige class that gets Great Cleave with a bow.

In reply to Uel (msg # 86):

Lmao, nice. I am not sure how one manages to cleave with a bow, though...maybe piercing is a better term for it?

Ranged village depopulation?
As you say the visuals of it are hard to line up with Cleave. Guessing it was easiest for them to say "works like this, move on" rather than invent a new mechanic for it.

I figured we were waiting on the DM. Otherwise I would have responded already.

Re: Out of Game
I have to say that I am a bit more of a fan of the Piercing Shot feat, because nothing says fun like having a range attack become a 60 foot line attack against enemies, especially if you can funnel them into a choke-point.  Just need to get to the +10BAB to get it.

And I'd think we have a little bit of time for character interactions if the DM hasn't posted yet.  Hopefully.

Re: Out of Game
I'm a fan of Piercing Shot too. This one amused me because it lets you kill anyone with an arrow then Cleave onwards to the next target rather than have to do the normal sensible lining up of Piercing Shot to get the multi kills. It's the difference between having one very impressive kebab's worth of corpses to making a village look like cocktail sausages. There was also another feat in one of those books that lets you replace all Bluff and Diplomacy checks with Intimidate ones. Especially funny for using Bluff to create an opportunity to hide.

And yeah we've space for OC banter for a bit yet I suspect. The shark riding ninjas waiting to ambush us are still putting the saddles on.

Re: Out of Game
So I'm struggling with the specter of potential joblessness stress which is counter productive for running the game because I can commit to keeping things moving forward if I start something that requires DM feedback quickly.

On the one hand, I've got a bunch of irons in the fire and something is likely to pull through. I am getting interviews. On the other hand it's December it's like 2 weeks from the holiday shutdown and come January the problems will start to become less vague future doom, more imminent problems.

I am leaning towards a hiatus hopefully a short one because I don't want to post stuff that's going to require me to post stuff in response to what happens quickly if I'm in no shape emotionally to plan/game.

Re: Out of Game
December is usually a slow month anyways, so that's par for the course. Usually takes until either near-end of the month or post-New Year's for things to start up again - that's generally when we find out which games can survive a hiatus and which cannot.

Re: Out of Game
So contacted my former manager (I work for a mega-corporation) who thinks he might have something by Tuesday, but no guarantees, but I would sorely like to have the stress &  hiatus be shorter rather than longer.

Re: Out of Game
Ah, yes, I forgot to mention one of the things I give passively, without meaning to.

All allies within 60' of Carnando who can see and hear him get a +5 circumstance bonus on all Dexterity based rolls, including initiative. Alpha Strikers are really going to like him. Being within 10' of him gives you a +4 bonus to resist Compulsion effects. Everyone else has +2 insight to Profession - Sailor checks as long as he is around.

And yes, he has the ACF which improves Move Silently, in his case by +6. So even someone large can be sneaky and get to places they have no right to get to unseen and unheard, if he's helping them out. Carnando probably has a reputation like Monty Python's Spanish Inquisition.

Re: Out of Game
So I've taken a new job (same company), instead of writing automation software to test Quantum computer parts I'll be writing automation software to test ground systems for satellites. It'll be a 2 hour commute, but most of the work I will do from home. I will probably move things forward Sunday since I and I assume most people will be a bit distracted Thursday-Friday and could use Saturday to recover.
