Re: Return to Modnar's Cellar

Their escape from the dungeon was successful. They reached the stairs and climbed up the slimy steps. Outside the sky remained cloudy yet not rain fell. On the journey home through the forest they heard hissing ahead. The noise was around one hundred and ninety yards away, hard to spot in the foliage five green snakes were curled up in the branches. A wolf, bitten and injured, lay in between them.

"A wide detour," Derry agrees, following Wyndham's lead.

We can hear hissing some 200 yards off :)? I can barely hear my wife when she's 20 feet away.

Devin followed the others in a wide detour.  He was happy to have survived another delve without losing anyone.  He felt that Auril's benevolence was shining down upon them.

By virtue of the snakes large size, each viper being between five to six foot long or by some quality of the wind the sound of the hissing snakes was enough of a warning to avoid them. It took the party a longer trek home but since it was only early afternoon they returned to Fourtower Bridge by nightfall.

As before, Kara takes time to memorize detect magic, and uses it on the spellbook to learn what is within- it seemed more complete than any she had found before.

Afterwards, she goes to see Dagunn Rakel, to see if she has any interest in buying the books found in the library- there were three mundane ones she had managed to salvage from the mess- hopefully they would bring a good price.

Return to Modnar's Cellar

The welcome at the Moorland Magpie Inn was much poorer than usual as the adventurers went to rest. Lorna hurried them away from the inn and billeted them in the stables. Their host was greatly embarrassed as she explained that the inn was infested with bedbugs! All the guests were forced to sleep in the stable whilst the bugs are killed with alchemical (and very poisonous) smoke. She charged no one for the lodging nor the food she provided.

Kara found the spellbook to have once been that of one of Modnar’s apprentices. With the use of Read Magic she found that it contained the spells, detect magic, floating disc, read magic, ventriloquism, locate object and mirror image.

A good price indeed was offered for the other books that they had found in the library. The tall and elegant magic-user Dagunn Rakel hosted Kara with some enthusiasm, excited to see what treasures the adventurers had brought her this time for her perusal. Tea was served as usual and all of the books although not magical were of curious interest to her and she offered three hundred gold pieces for all of them.

During their downtime, Devin returned to rebuilding the temple.  The hard work made him feel as though he were making a difference.  Slowly, but surely.

He also bought another bundle of torches.

The work in the old tower ruins was hard labour. Mother Majken was a stern mistress pushing the acolyte Devin in his efforts. The overgrowth was all cleared so Devin then began to repairs on the old stone walls with what broken pieces he could scavenge. Mother Majken on her visits reminded him that he must on his adventures find a holy relic so that the tower can be consecrated as a temple.

After there rough sleep in the barn innkeeper Lorna was pleased to re-open the inn once the alchemical smoke had cleared. This was a joyous event with Lorna serving lamb steamed buns and beer in the evening for the usual five silver pieces. Additionally a travelling bard stayed over and sung a ballad of the mountain queen. It was beautiful tale and everyone mourned her cruel fate.

OOC Evening of Day 23. Feel free to make an purchases from Millie’s store. What’s the party’s next plan?

"Mistress Dagunn Rakel says the leather is something better than me own, but won't tell me how much better unless I hand over 100 gold. Think I'll keep it after all."
Wyndham spends some time cleaning off any residual goo from the leather before trying it on. He'll then try to sell his old suit.

The leather armour when worn by Wyndham felt perfectly fitted and comfortable. The old suit very mundane in comparison. The blacksmith Roark was a decent craftsman and the closest thing to a tanner the small town had. He offered Wyndham ten gold pieces for the suit of armour.

Millie laughed at Derry “oh its not my store” she replied “the owner is Thomas Bludd” she patted her two dogs Thongor and Brute “we get few travellers and caravans. What do you suggest that will bring more trade?” she asked.
