Tea with Dagunn Rakel

Kara congratulates Wyndham on his foresight of bringing the armor back. No doubt it is enchanted, if that is the case. Hopefully it serves him well.

When talk of returning to the dungeon comes up, Kara declines. "The last trip was a success, but given the lack of cohesion and inability to fully trust we are all going to support each other, I do not have confidence in long term success- and the number of people lost bears testament to the folly of lack of teamwork. If we cannot rely on each other, then each trip is on luck and borrowed time. And I am not going to have either run out on me unnecessarily. Besides, I have some things to accomplish in town. Good luck. Perhaps I will see you again if you manage to return alive."

After they depart, her first visit is to see Dagunn Rakel.

The magic user was surprised to see Kara after seeing the other members of the party depart again into the west forest. Her greeting however was warm and welcoming “good morning sweetie, do come into for tea” she invited.

"Thank you for seeing me again so soon after my last visit. No, I did not go with the others this time. Looking at the group, it seemed the odds were not with us. That is actually why I am here to see you, in an attempt to see if those odds could be improved."

She took a sip of tea, and continued, "It occurred to me that most adventurers come to you to sell the items of value they pull out of the dungeon. Either because they could not use them, or they needed the money for something more immediate, or they did not comprehend the utility of what they were selling. So, I was wondering if you might be willing to sell some of those items that could be used in future delves."

She stirred the tea a bit, then said, "I realize that is very open-ended. Specifically, I am looking for something that might assist our lockpicker. We have been stymied by unopenable doors before, and anything that could help his skills in this manner would be most useful. If not that, then perhaps something that might help his stealth and undetectability? He has gone alone to lure monsters away from the rest of us, and also been willing to explore and continue on in a dangerously injured state. So something that might assist him in remaining unseen or undiscovered while he risks such things would be most useful. Have you anything along either of those lines?"

The conversation was intelligent and witty. The tall woman admired her collection of eccentric stuffed animals, infernal pottery and the ood mystical knick-knack “oh my collection is not so extensive or useful as you imagine dear” she waved her about “folk rarely sell anything useful to me. The place to shop for interesting items would be Millie’s store. That trader Ricky Pickles often brings her strange or interesting things, on my last visit I saw an amazing pair of leather boots on her counter”

“Back in my own adventuring days Silar was the burglar extraordinaire, I don’t recall him using any mystical items but he was a skilled trap maker”
she added.

The conversation flowed, and when she suggested other places, Kara nodded. She had hoped to handle this in on trip, but it seemed like she would have to return back here again later. Thanking her, she went to see if she could have an audience with Silar, giving him the same explanation as she had given Dagunn Rakel if so.

The thief Silar was in the tower to the northeast, across the river from Dagunn’s. He was an elegant man in his forties, dressed extravagantly and pleased with a young lady guest. He pondered Kara’s question whilst he tapped his long nimble fingers to the arms of his plush chair “sounds like your thief needs to get more practise, the more locks he picks the better your thief will become” there were bright metal rings and jewels on Silar’s fingers and he displayed them with pride “I collect pretty things rather than drab cloaks to be hiding his shadows, those days are past me now” he told Kara.

"He is working very hard at it, I assure you. But just as a warrior might use an enchanted sword to help in battle, I was hoping he might be able to make use of quality lockpicks or magic equipment. Thank you for your time," she said, departing to go to Millie’s store to see if Ricky Pickles had brought her anything that fit the bill, giving Millie (and or Ricky) the same explanation as she had given Dagunn Rakel and Silar.

Millie’s store carried a lot of useful equipment for adventurers and travellers as well as curious goods from far away lands that she’s procured from visiting merchants. Her two dogs Thongor and Brute welcomed Kara into the shop and Kara easily spotted the boots of amazing quality that were displayed proudly on the counter top.

At Kara’s enquiry Millie shook head “nothin’ like that in stock at the moment, never can tell what Ricky Pickles will turn up with next. Just look at these boots, beauties ain’t they? You come shopping after his next visit and see what’s new.”

"No thank you. That will not be possible," Kara replied, taking her leave, and going to see Majken the Nun.

The matronly Majken was a stern faced middle aged woman. She appraised Kara as she answered the apprentice magic-users summons at her door “what is the meaning of your visit?” the nun demanded.

To not waste the woman's time, Kara responded quickly. "Medications. I was hoping you had a potion of healing as well as bandages and ointments that might be acquired for a suitable donation."

“Welcome daughter, come and offer your donation” the Mother Majken directed Kara to enter. Inside was a shrine to Sidhe, the father of the gods and god of justice “I trust you are a woman of faith, let us pray” Majken knelt at the shrine “may wisdom always find a way, praise be to Sidhe” she intoned then pointed Kara to the donation box “I am no pedlar and can offer no potion or lotion. The just word of Sidhe is all I can offer” beside the donation box was a written scripture of the word of Sidhe, a rolled up scroll “the word of Sidhe has the power to heal those that promote truth, fairness, balance, honour and justice.”

Kara considered the scroll, then shook her head. "Sadly, that would not work," Kara replied. "Those do not apply to our cleric at all, so it seems it would be unusable." She shrugged. "Well, I have made every attempt, but been stymied in all of them. My hands are clean. Thank you for your time."

She departed.

“Through Sidhe’s will may all choose their own path” the nun bidded Kara farewell with a prayer.

OOC The scroll is will work for all clerics regardless of their particular devotion. Healing is rare enough without making it more difficult.

(ooc)
I understand. But the post stands as is. My own 1st level inexperienced character can only react under the circumstances to what she has been told and seen, so she cannot purchase the scroll.
