Chapter 3-1a: Bryn Shander's Temple District

The temple in Bryn Shander, located halfway between the market square and the Southwest Gate, was impressive indeed. Not strictly because of its size, for while the edifice carved from marble still loomed high above the sharply sloped buildings in its vicinity, it was still small compared to its ilk in larger cities. No, it was its pale contour contrasting beautifully against the night sky that distinguished it. It's facade, while simple, was marvelously elegant and polished. A monument in the shape of a prism with statues of The Triad set into each side greeted every visitor at the plaza, with Tyr and Torm looking out proudly, and the humble Ilmater facing inward.

Above all their heads and on the main entrance, snowflakes had been etched into the stone.

While some shrines were scattered throughout city perimeters, and occasionally even remote like Mielikki's or other gods of nature's, such was not the case for Sune's. Further north lied the House of the Morninglord, a lesser temple dedicated to the more obscure Amaunator. But it was clear from the town's layout that the road leading from the Southwest Gate to the market place was the main thoroughfare, and, as such, a prime location for a shrine to Sune if one existed. And it did. A few paces away from the main temple, in a corner on the street, stood a small stone sanctum with an ornate overhanging roof laden with snow. It did not offer the luxury of a walled enclosure, consisting of merely a few pillars in a square formation, and could barely fit your typical commoner resting their knees in prayer. It certainly did not house social salons or public baths as some of her more prominent places of worship did, and there was no dedicated clergy attending to it. But it carried the essentials — her symbol, the face of a beautiful red-haired woman, a mirror underneath, and, just to its side, a locked strongbox secured to a slab.

Bryn Shander's Temple District

Leaning over to look into the mirror, Farwalker let out a noise of discontent. She needed to get a new mirror herself, she looked awful. Fortunately, it only took a few minutes to readjust her shawl and finish flaking off the ice caked to the less mobile parts of her face. Once she had her hair resettled, the ice in it actually looked rather fetching. She even had half a mind to dip her shield in water to see if she couldn’t get a more frozen theme going. It might take a little bit to get the proper image, but it could be fun to do for a few days.

Once she was done making sure she looked less bedraggled, she rummaged in a pouch full of small carvings and beads before setting a simple large bone bead carved in the likeness of Sune on the altar next to the mirror. Someone would take it eventually, and that was the point. From there, she took some time to repair any damage to the shrine itself. There was always something, even if it was the simple wear of time. Fortunately, she was fully capable of magically repairing things, it just took a long while.

From there, it was just a simple matter of leaving a donation.
