Chapter 2-E: Bryn Shander - The Hooked Knucklehead

Even beyond the Spine, a Goliath was a rarity in civilized areas. So it came as no surprise that conversation died down and Farwalker received a fair number of odd glances as she ducked through the doorway. Some of curiosity, others of concern. The advantage Farwalker had over her people, however, was her outerwear, rich in color and unimposing. It served to sedate some of the more averse reactions she might have gotten.

Among the patrons here were the merchants from the caravan, and it seemed the inn's proprietor, a stern man with a well-groomed beard and monocle, had made good business these recent days. The establishment was rickety and not particularly large, which meant many had slumbered by the hearth in the taproom.

Some had come to Icewind Dale bringing exotic goods from the far reaches of Toril. An amenable man from Damaran, who came with herbs and roots from the Earthwood. A Mulan who came bearing scrolls. A Dwarf from Kelvin's Cairn bringing minerals and gemstones. And, when it became clear the Goliath was inquiring about wares, it came to light the Waterdhavians had brought various trinkets of varying value that they were willing to part with.

Damaran: Rosemary, Juniper Berries, Wyndor's Herbs. (All; 1 cp per ounce).
Mulan: Scroll of Color Spray (50 gp), Scroll of Featherfall (50 gp), Scroll of Earth Tremor (50 gp), Scroll of Longstrider (50 gp).
Dwarf: Nuggets of Silver (1 gp), Nuggets of Gold (3 gp), Rubies of the War Mage (20 gp).
Waterdhavians: Compass (5 sp), a Piece of Crystal That Faintly Glows in the Moonlight (1 gp), a Tiny Silver Bell (5 sp), an old Map of an Unknown Area (5 gp).

Rumor: Farwalker isn't the only Goliath to have visited the Ten-Towns in recent times. The Dwarf, having recently been to Good Mead, speaks of Truthspeaker, a Goliath warrior from Skytower Shelter. Her tribe has recently found themselves in a bloody feud with another from Wyrmdoom Crag. She came in search of a Werebear but found herself in Good Mead instead where she gambled, lost large, then fled her gambling debts. This was three days ago, the Dwarf impressed.

Chapter 2-E: Bryn Shander - The Hooked Knucklehead

It had been an eventful day of shopping, though admittedly the events had happened before the shopping had begun. Her pack was now actually almost full, though her chest still had quite a bit of room left inside of it. She’d fill it up with trinkets and toys to pass on as she saw fit. Which, conveniently, some of the people were willing to sell her. She bought several ounces of each spice, as one could never go wrong with spices and herbs. Especially juniper berries. Those made the best soups.

She wasn’t too interested in the scrolls, though she did let them know that she knew a wizard that might be interested, by the name of Mallory.

From the waterdhavians, she purchased everything they were willing to sell. It was all interesting and would make for good gifts.

The dwarf she purchased a good amount of silver and gold nuggets. They’d be easier to work with, and she had been wanting to make more simple jewellery. Inlaying wasn’t her best skill, but she could do it with time and patience, as with most things. “Did you have a description other than ‘Goliath’, cousin?” She asked the dwarf after he told his story.

"Mmmh . . ." the Dwarf grumbled, allowing himself long to speak. He was an old soul, with eyebrows so bushy one couldn't help but wonder how he saw. "Aye. Her face was black as the noche . . . th'lass was so lined with markings the gray looked like the markings . . . ne'er seen a Goliath like her. Strong and broad. Poor at gamblin' . . ." When he brought forth his coin purse to accept Farwalker's payment, it was clear it had a considerable heft.
