Darn, you snatched goldenrod before I could call dibs. :3
Hello all! I'll be your local Divination Wizard/possible source of gallows humor comedic relief. I am squishy and soft and my job is to stand waaaaaay in the back and make you all look good while you do the heavy lifting. Apparently I'm also pulling double-duty for a lack of a party Rogue as I've got proficiency with Thieves' Tools. I'll go ahead and snag
Coral while it's still on the table.

Hard to get all eights when you have four to six stat lines to choose from.
See, you say that, but I was chatting about with the DM prior to the game registration opening up and point buy being set. I tossed out two sets of rolls and this is what I got:
Set 1
17, 12, 11, 11, 11, 11
Set 2
16, 15, 12, 9, 8, 7
Neither set are exactly helpful for completely different reasons. One is straight-up meh across the board and the other is major dump/spike mix as to be ridiculous, while both are below being driven up by Racial ASI in any useful manner. Rolling stats can be fun, but there's just way too much likelihood of characters being skewed in competency at the same level, and it doesn't make any sense to just let us roll a bunch of times until we're satisfied with what we get than just go with a Point Buy in the first place.
With a Point Buy, I can spread out my numbers as such:
Point Buy Set w/Racial ASI
15, 15, 13, 12, 8, 8
This way I can use my Racial ASI to push two stats up into more useful +2/+3 territory while having very specific weaknesses (STR and WIS, in my case, as suits the character). The result of having a capable character with specific shortcomings the party can cover for is a lot better than just being an all-rounder either way.
