Will touch on the development thread soon. The character is firmly established, so it'll just be taking the time to right it all out.

Cool. Feel free to jump into character creation.

Not sure what level you’re envisioning. 6th is pretty good for competent but not too powerful.

That's about what I was thinking, it's a good level for solo, and allows for some decent mechanical character development. I prefer rolling stats to an array, but I also don't trust the RPoL dice roller to not do me dirty, so it's a wash.

Mostly personal preference, but it also assumes an end result of random generation that I've very rarely ever seen play out using the typical modern d20 random generation system (4d6d1).

I see that.

To me, it represents an ideal. A couple of good stats, a couple of middling stats, a null, and a dump. Rolling, you’re either going to get all good, all bad, or a mix. No one wants all bad. And to me all good is no fun.

The array is also good with multiple players to provide fairness, which we don’t need here.

If you’d prefer to roll, I don’t really have a problem with that. You can keep rolling sets as long as you keep it all in a set.

Set 1 4d6 drop lowest
11:18, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 14 using 4d6 with rolls of 2,2,4,6.
11:18, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 18 using 4d6 with rolls of 6,5,3,4.
11:18, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 9 using 4d6 with rolls of 1,4,2,2.

11:18, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 14 using 4d6 with rolls of 2,3,5,4.
11:18, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 12 using 4d6 with rolls of 6,1,3,2.

4d6 reroll 1s
11:17, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 15 using 4d6, rerolling ones with rolls of 3,{1}4,5,3. 12
11:17, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 12 using 4d6, rerolling ones with rolls of 4,3,2,3. 10
11:17, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 17 using 4d6, rerolling ones with rolls of 6,2,4,{1}5. 15
11:17, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 16 using 4d6, rerolling ones with rolls of 6,2,6,2. 14
11:17, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 16 using 4d6, rerolling ones with rolls of {1}5,3,4,4. 13
11:17, Today: Oracle of The Whills rolled 17 using 4d6, rerolling ones with rolls of {1}4,2,6,5. 15

Honestly, I prefer the array, but I don’t care that much. Use whatever you feel most comfortable with. Hell, if you don’t like the dice roller, just roll on your end with real dice. I’ll trust you to be honest.

I might tinker with it a bit when I have some time, to try to get a better idea of how the RPoL roller behaves with random stat generation. Like I mentioned, though, it's mostly just a preference thing and is largely inconsequential. Nothing to spend too much time thinking about.

I’ll trust you to be honest.

Warning: Expect the following to be unabashed design nerdery that can be safely ignored at your discretion.

From a purely conversational standpoint (as I don't intend to cheat my rolls) would it matter if I wasn't? That's the interesting thing about solo games - since they're balanced against a single player, rather than a group, there's no unfair advantage to be had. Good, even absurdly great, ability scores will only get you so far, anyway. I've got extensive experience running and playing in d20 games where no one has an ability score under 18 (supers-ish), and it really  doesn't change things as much as one might think.

Apparently today's ol' Errolyn's day. 61% of rolls are a 14 or higher, and only one roll below 10 across all three sets. Total score points of 79, 78, and 84. Very little deviation. Interesting.

With your permission, what might work to introduce a bit more variety into the stats is to take that last set, decrease the 12s to a 10 and an 8, and increase one of the 16s to an 18. Thoughts?

Yeah, probably a good idea. I'm good with it being purchased with a loan from <insert crime lord here>, winnings from a game of sabaac, or even starting without one and having the opportunity to "acquire" one early on.

My personal favorite light freighter for Errolyn is the YT-1930, for which I have an updated deckplan by the ship's original (uncredited) creator. I believe RCR has stats for one. If not, they should be pretty easy to whip up, since it's statted in both WEG and Saga.

Mostly better. Been swamped since I picked things back up, but I'm making progress on my end. I've been active, just not here where you can see it. Tinkering with some different ways of going about what I want.

Build is pretty much guaranteed to be Noble/Scoundrel, just working out the details. Been a while since I've worked with the 3.X skill system, so it's taking some... adjustment.

I gave Bartleby 2 levels of soldier, which, to be honest, doesn’t give him much. But it seems appropriate. So he can fly the ship, shoot a gun (not incredibly well), and I also gave him a secret retractable vibrodagger for self defense.

Here’s his stat block:

BR-T13B
3D-4X Administrative Droid Expert 1/Soldier 2, Init +0, Defense 11 (+1 Class),
Spd 8m, VP/WP 22/13, Atk +2 melee (2d4 vibrodagger) or +2 ranged (3d4 holdout
blaster), Save Fort +4 Ref +0 Will +2, Rep +1.
ST 10 DX 10 CN 13 IN 14 WS 10 CH 16.

Skills: Appraise (int) +6, Bluff (cha) +10, Computer Use (int) +6,
Diplomacy (cha) +10, Entertain (cha) +7, Gamble (wis) +4, Gather Information
(cha) +7, Intimidate (cha) +7, Pilot (dex) +6, Repair (int) +6.

Feats: Ambidexterity, Skill Emphasis (Diplomacy), Skill Emphasis
(Bluff), Simple Weapons, Light Armor, Blaster Pistols, Blaster Rifles,
Vibro Weapons, Heavy Weapons, Starship Operation (Transports)

Languages: Speak Basic, Speak Binary

Equipment:
 Translator Unit (DC5)
 Recording Unit (audio)
 Vocabulator
 Retractable Vibro Dagger
 Holdout Blaster

Sorry, was being a "responsible GM" for a live game.

He was primarily a personal assistant/pilot, but depending on the incarnation, had other functions. In a Saga game my SO ran, he was a Noble into the Independent Droid class and provided technical support as well as his typical administrative functions.

The stat block certainly looks reasonable to me.

Agreed. Seems a very good fit for Bartleby's concept. Thanks for taking care of it for me.

Working on the character now. Might I suggest a house rule for multiclassing? Essentially bringing it in line with the way that Pathfinder does things and eliminating some of the headaches that 3.X-style multiclassing has in the math department.

It just gets rid of all the fiddly math that is class skills between multiple classes. Essentially, if something is a class skill, it's a class skill, and costs class skill costs, rather than having to remember that, for instance, while your Noble/Soldier has Diplomacy as a class skill through Noble, when you're leveling Soldier, ranks in Diplomacy cost double.

Gives a slight advantage over RAW, since multiclass skills become cheaper, but it's only a marginal improvement. It's not a monumental need, it's just appealing because I'm lazy.

That’s fine on the class skill thing. Once it is a class skill, it is a class skill. I think that’s how it should be anyway. Actually, the way I would personally do it for a 6th level character is just figure out what all your class skills are and then your total number of points. Then you know you have a Max of +9 in any class skill.

Using that Path Guy link I shared really simplifies the process. You can stat a character in 15 minutes.

Pathfinder 1e's skill system was a significant improvement over 3.X d20, in my opinion. The skill max = level was a nice touch, too (+3 misc bonus to class skills to represent the x4 skills at first level thing), but it does make you lose out on a little bit of versatility at low-levels, being able to spread out those initial points.

I have a dinner to go to tonight for my girlfriend's parents' anniversary, but I should be able to get my sheet polished off when I get home afterwards.

What're we doing for post-first-level starting credits?

So if you have listen or spot as class skills, you have Perception instead. And same with Move silently and hide - switch to stealth. Stealthy feat goes away (you could do skill emphasis )
