Greetings everyone! Scholar and historian Issac will soon be in Kamoras to record as much as he can for this historical event. If you see someone in your travels standing the background scribbling in a journal while important things are happening, you probably saw Issac.

Candidus Sanctus, or Candi for short here. Human (mostly) cleric here to do what good she may and help how she can. Also willing to toss out some heals on occasion. Mainly a battle cleric though.

Just wanted to throw this out there because I had a question about it, but if you prefer using Myth Weavers sheets that is fine with me.

I never had much cause to develop a good solution for D&D 3.5 character sheets. They're so complex that often it's just best to write them up as a sequence of lists rather than a fancy-pants preformatted table. "Here are my feats, here are my class features, here are my skills..."

What is up, OOC? I am Annette's bodyguard, Lev'at'an, or Lev for short. If it is related to violence, I will be accused of being broken if I make what I am planning. If it is not violence related, you will likely laugh at me as I do absolutely nothing of meaning.

Not all paths to enlightenment are positive.

On the plus side, Lev's actually a nice whalefolk once you get to know him.

Whalefolk? Thats a new one. I like that this is a diverse party with a strong representation of women.

I'm mainly a battle cleric but I did take some skills and an item that helps out healing. I have one class feature that improves healing now and I'll pick up another class feature in a few levels that improves it further.

Ahh, I remember the one anthropomorphic insectile baleen whale I once made.

That is one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen and it's not even that far out there compared to some of the shit in D&D.

Well, Lev has a normal number of arms. Besides, all of you are freaks to Lev. You look like tentacleless octopifolk with hair in weird places to him.

I'm sure you will come up with other reasons to panic other then superficial ones when Lev rolls up and the whale decides now is a good time to be in a bad mood. Well, actually, it shouldn't be anyone here-here panicking. Just those he's pointed at.

What book is whalefolk from? I'm pretty sure I have all of them and I don't recall that big boi. I'm not saying he's not legal I'm just curious.

Savage Species. I've read that book but I didn't remember it until I was combing the net for ideas and I stumbled across that one, and went "Wait, this exists?" It's LA +0, although it is three HD deep. One could do worse, though, then levels of Anthro Whale.

Do you recall the page number? I can think of a couple of character concepts that I'd like to use that for.

There's a table right at the end which lists various anthro animals, level adjustments, ability score adjustments and what you get from them.

Well, I'm slapping a War Hulk on that body, so my description to the right of this is apt: I do one thing really well, and at that thing I am probably one of the best at it. Unfortunately, my Crafting, Knowledges, and Performs are effectively zero rank as a result. I feel I am a good herald to a full caster - a warning that what is following me is far more dangerous.

Sadly, what follows is not a full caster -- just little ol' me, a halfling stumbling over her petticoats as she wields three wands in each hand between her fingers, shouting ridiculous half-remembered command words.

... I'm not sure if that's more or less dangerous than a full caster, especially to myself and my allies, but it's certainly more fun!

I went the Cloistered Cleric, Saint, DMM Persist route. I can Persist 4 spells right now and once I gain another level I get a feat which is going toward Easy Metamagic. That'll allow me to persist a fifth.

I used my bonus domain to take the Planning Domain giving me Extend Spell for free. And I'm human so an extra feat. Plus the three I have for being level 8.

Extend Spell
Persistent Spell
Divine Metamagic
Extra Turning x2

I took the LA buyoff so I'm only 1,000 xp away from level 9 and another feat which I'll use to get Easy Metamagic applying it to Persistent Spell.

Regular turning pool, Greater Turning pool, Nightstick, special reliquary holy symbol= 24 turn attempts per day.

If flaws were allowed I'd take two and already have Easy Metamagic and another dose of Extra Turning.

  You need at least three exalted feats for the Saint template (see page BExD 29) and I don't think the gods would be impressed by them being retrained. As the book says, the LA for the template is artificially low.

We should have five feats at this point if you are human, but I'm certain there are ways to finagle more of them beyond flaws if one cares to do so.

As noted by Poppy, three of them would have been spent simply becoming a saint in the first place, although I note with some amusement that the sample saint in the Book of Exalted Deeds expressly does NOT have that limitation. So, the book is not following its own rules - curious, for a book supposedly about virtue. That, or it was written up by someone who didn't know what was going to be in an earlier part.

Either way, I don't feel a need to push on that point and call hax. If the book isn't playing by its own rules, I don't see why they should expect anyone else to.

The DM signed off on it. I showed him my character concept and he approved. Also its easy enough to argue that DMM and Extra Turning should qualify one for the template anyway. They're feats meant to help combat evil. Unless you're a real RAW stickler then that's good enough.

Thankfully the DM seems to share my philosophy of Story>rules everytime.

 It seems this game is too cheesy for me, so I'll bow out, but I hope you all have fun.

I get where Poppy's coming from, as the Saint template has a bit of a rep, and Divine Metamagic/Persist Cleric is almost a meme among min/max types. Since I come down shamelessly on the side of powergaming, I'm not bothered. I'm more curious about discovering who your character actually is.

There is a bit of wisdom I'll pass to anyone who cares for it: if you want to find out who someone is, make them believe they are omnipotent, or at least beyond meaningful consequence.

Since we haven't started, I cannot judge anyone. Besides, I suspect copious amounts of cheese around me anyways. I can smell the cheddar in the air, and not just from you - it's 3.5, and I expect it.

3.5 is my favorite iteration. Mainly because you can create exactly what you want. Let's the imagination run wild ya know?

Well, full disclosure: Avalanche is a Dragonborn Goliath Barbarian / Fighter. He was supposed to be the big guy, but I guess Lev'at'an does that better than him :p

No, no, I'm not bothered by it. Our characters have their niches and if nothing else at least they can always double team people (like Sieg and Major Armstrong in FMA)

That we can. Also, you have a few more actual levels then I do - three of mine are racial by necessity. So, you might be able to do some tricks I can't.

LA buyoff. With an original LA of +0 it will be fairly cheap for you to get most of that back.

Can't buy RHD off, and La Balena has 3 of them. However, it's way better than some other races who have RHD AND LA.

Yeah Lycanthropes are like that. Makes them almost unplayable without some house ruling. I usually let people drop the RHD and just keep the regular LA. Tweak the stats and bonus feats a bit to balance things out.

No one wants to play as a werepanther with an effective LA of +9

Honestly, given the sheer stats I get from AnthroWhale, it's comparable to a Barbarian reduced to a simple stat stick. I'm good.

I'm a halfling. Just regular old vanilla mostly-only-core-book halfling. I like having an effective character but don't have the patience to cheesedick things. The only time I tend to stick my nose out of the core book is for a particularly thematic class or some feats that make me better at what I already wanted to do; whether it's something useful like optimizing my wand use, questionable like specializing in poisons as a pixie rogue, or blatantly silly like getting a walrus mount for my goblin soulknife. My policy can be summed up as "if I need to open more than three books to figure out how my character works, I'm probably overdoing it."

This limitation does not apply if I, for example, outsource all my equipment shopping needs to someone who does have the patience to look up a bunch of random items, so long as he gives me clear and concise notes on what it all does. I'm curious to see what Lev buys me!

I don't like the smell of cheese, but I knew it was going to be pretty stinky up in here when I applied. I made a conscious recognition that I'll probably be underpowered compared to the rest of ya'll, but at least I'll have a rocket skirt and dual-wield revolvers that fire wands instead of bullets. It'll sure make Russian Roulette interesting!

I purposely try to avoid breaking the game when I play. I'm old enough to not want all the attention and am very aware that its not supposed to be all about a single player anyway. Everyone is here to have fun.

Just a heads up, and a slight mea culpa on my part, when I approved your concept I did not do the mental math necessary to see if a DMM cleric and a saint template were actually possible feats wise (although a DMM cleric is at minimum a cleric with the DMM feat, so that is something), you'll still need to follow the rules on your finalized character sheet.

A bit late to the party but I'm sad to see someone leave. Issac is a binder so he'll have some neat tricks but I doubt he'll be optimized.

No problem. If you need help setting something up feel free to ask here or in a PM. Rpol has a couple of cool features. You can do things like setting up languages and creating groups so that only certain players can see certain threads.

And I'm actually familiar with Binders - Shadow Magic was cool, if a bit on the rigid side and more complex to explain then to use. Truenamers were actually broken in two directions - unplayable at the mid game unless built very specifically, but busted in the other way the moment they can create infinite Gates. Binders were probably the most cohesively designed.

I would say you can bust a Binder, but you have to be pretty specific in building them. Zceryll is probably the only one that is potentially OP, but that's 11th level at the earliest as far as I can tell. Even if you take that one, though, you won't be more dangerous than a Sorcerer, unless you built around that, and then we are going back to "specifically built to break the game."

I'll be blunt - if all that is put in front of Lev are challenges that can be solved with "LEV SMASH!", then Lev'at'an is busted as hell. I didn't take Hulking Hurler because I do possess some lingering humanity in the bitter shell that is my heart, but I have taken a prestige class that is often invoked in the same sentence as the Hurler. War Hulk is basically Cancer Mage if someone tried to balance the latter.

Okay so I'll be playing as a straight human it seems. Solves any issues and my character now works RAW. I do wish Poppy hadn't left in such a huff but it can't be helped. So now I'm a Cloistered Cleric 6/ Radiant Servant of Pelor 4. Makes me a tad better at healing.

Do we have a trapfinder? Do we anticipate there being traps? As an artificer I could be pretty good at it but I really want the skills in other things...

We could always just buy a bag of tricks and throw small furry animals at traps.

One could, in a pinch, put Lev in it and see if it goes off.

10 foot poles and throwing things should suffice for most traps.

Sounds to me like we really need a trapfinder. Alright, your fabulous couturier who dabbles in weapon and armor smithing is now an expert trapper to boot. Who'd have thunk it? And, of course, I'm maxed out on K: The Planes. As a couturier in the most famous and important city in the entire multiverse, it is my business to know the needs of all my outsider customers!

Yeah Tome of Magic was an odd book. It basically felt like they had 3 different subsystems which weren't big enough to be stand alone books so they just smashed them together and called it a day. Each subsection even has it's own bestiary and sample adventure. Some of these sections were obviously more polished than others which baffles me.

I want to just say that there will be opportunities to buy mundane and most low level magical gear once you are on Kamoras, so don't fret your equipment too much right now if you are unsure.  You won't have to go long without what you need if you find that you need it.

Are we doing standard wealth by level to equip ourselves?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the equipment I have to buy, and mostly failing due to having had really poor sleep for the last four days. Why did I decide to play an artificer again? Why do I hate myself?

Hello all, one of two skill monkeys here.  Factotum/Warblade, so I've got a whole lot of versatility and a bit of combat punch; if there's any tricks that would mesh well with party members (outside general skill monkey stuff), I'm early enough in working on the crunch to take requests.

For the roleplaying side, I'm a NG human who belongs to the Bleak Cabal - basically an anti-nihilist.  To steal a quote, "There can't possibly be any meaning in this world. But isn't that wonderful in its own right? Because if there isn't any, we can find our own."

An uncommon combination, although one I am familiar with. I am, unfortunately, all combat punch, and not a particularly subtle or artful punch. Unlike you, most of my combat rounds will be composed up "I attack again," if there is somehow enough left of my foe for that phrase to be relevant after "I attack."

I'm open for a team up with anyone, though. Lev is lacking in his intended partner at this point, and I'm thinking his goal is going to be to head to the highest point on the plate.

Candi is pursuing her own goals at the moment. Currently looking for some missing children and in a battle of wills with an Efreeti slaver. Although that's not what he calls himself. I may see if I can buy some of his slaves soon.

So I made a trap finder/remover need to go shopping, then I can go take out the criminal element... to dinner.

My sheet's about half done, items selected, stats distributed, most of my feats accounted for (except the level nine one, I'm not so sure on that).

Would a Morale bonus to Will saves be useful, or does that overlap a buff that's already going to be handed out?  I need to pick a stance and there's not much impressive for first level.

A bonus to saves is never a bad thing and if there's nothing better then grab it. I'm not a group buffer. I don't think anyone else is either.

Oh, Aegis. There is a chance you and I might run into each other. I'm not sure how that will go - could be just both of us go "yup", and keep walking unless something happens to inspire otherwise.

I minored in buffer, but +7 Circ to Dex Checks/Skill, Init & +1 Circ All Saves isn't nothing.

I'm still here. Unfortunately it looks like the DM hasn't even logged in since the 22nd. After 2 weeks I usually assume that the game has died.

I check RPOL every other day, but this was my only active game.

Did any of you actually manage to meet another player in game? I tried and never got to.

I met Lev, though we only got a few posts in before the game died.

Most of the players are still poking their heads in. The fatal flaw with many games on RPOL is that if the GM goes down in such a way that they cannot or will not check in on the game, it is hard to continue without them.

Well poo. I'll keep checking for a while, at least a few more weeks. Maybe RL just threw him a curve.

I had just finished a bout in the arena to prevent them from bear baiting. And was going to take the bears back to my airship to get them evacuated. I was having fun!
