Re: The Grand Illusion - An OOC Thread

Word. I get you.

But now I wanna have a character ripped and looking like Captain Prison Rape, jacked like the Rock...

And be 5'6" and 150lbs.

And use the screen name "Sir Bass A Lot" because people think he's a Catfish when they see him for real. He really is all jacked and ripped. He's just... Small. So all of his photos people expect to see a Hulk.

Welcome Elias Richter, Solo, to the game.  I'm thinking he could go into Group 4.  Any objections from that group?

Re: The Grand Illusion - An OOC Thread

Thanks, folks! I'm still trying to figure out this site, so forgive me if I miss things until I get up to speed!

I'm Donald; I've got about ten years of PBP experience. About 90% of that experience was when I was a teenager, but last year my wife suggested I get back into PBP. I got started with an Age of Rebellion game that's still going strong, plus a friend just started a Blades in the Dark PBP, so I'm getting back into it!

I'm completely new to Cyberpunk RED as a system, but I've played and run a lot of other TTRPG systems in person over the last decade, so it shouldn't be too much to pick up another system. I purposely made a character new to Night City so we could both figure out the scene together!

No lie, Slash is the man. He ranks right up there in my top five guitarists.

In no particular order, Slash, Santana, Eddie Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, & Eric Clapton.

Re: The Grand Illusion - An OOC Thread

What do you mean no love for Jimi? He played his guitar upside down and got famous for his feedback. I think very highly of him. But 1) his career was cut short before his true greatness could be achieved and 2) Im talking top 5 in the world. They have to be better than great. Nancy Wilson didn't make the list. Chuck Berry didn't make the list. Angus Young didn't make the list. I'm not even a Van Halen fan. I'm more of a Van Hagar fan if I am being honest, and yet Eddie is quite possibly the best guitarist of all time.

And then if I am going to go with overall musical talent, not just the one instrument for which they are known, names like Meatloaf and Johnny Cash and Elvis spring up. Michael Jackson is the undisputed King of Pop. AC DC is the greatest Rock Band of all time. Then there is Rush, who used three guys and did more than bands with six guys usually do...and really, all things being fair and equal, Beyonce can sit her fine ass down because Madonna just walked in, and Amy Lee needs a voice synth because her live shit is awful, but Joan Jett is the undisputed QUEEN.

What can I say? I'm a music nut. Tunes are better than TV.

In reply to Dutch (msg # 324):

You'd put Meatloaf in the same bracket as Cash and Elvis?  That's interesting.  Maybe not crazy, but I've never heard the argument before.  I could see someone putting Sinatra across from Cash and Elvis, but Meatloaf?  That's new.  I'll have to think about it.

If you're a music nut, you might like this radio station: https://live.gamut.fm/listen/

They're an HD3 channel for what is primarily a news station.  Because they're in the back office and nobody cares, they run no ads, no djs.  So the station can operate as a non-profit.  This allows them an enormous library (something like 15,000 albums or something in their playlist - I don't quite remember all the detes).  Anyhow, they cover a lot of waterfront.  Hank Williams to Dionne Warwick to Fugazi to Madonna.

Of course, if you're not in the area, you're SOL, but they do broadcast over the internet, FWIW.

Re: The Grand Illusion - An OOC Thread

Loved that! Can't really dispute anything in that second paragraph (even as Styx is still my favorite band :) ).

I'd put Hendrix up there instead of Slash, because I fully believe Jimi is the greatest guitarist of all time, and I'd put Chuck Berry in ahead of SRV, because Berry is the First Guitar Herotm in my book. (Slash suffers in my book because, while very, very good, I never considered him to have defined his era. Eddie was by far the best of the lot, and Vaughan was better, too; to be honest, I also preferred Alex Lifeson's sounds over Slash's.)

Re: The Grand Illusion - An OOC Thread

@Goudy: Sure. Have you not heard Meatloaf's voice? His range is amazing. Plus he was a classically trained pianist and a guitarist. I definitely rank him as a GOAT. Sinatra is another GOAT.

@Sou-rat: Sure. You are entitled to your opinions. I noticed you didn't take any issue with Eric Clapton or Santana tho. I would also say that Santana should count by your standards because his sound is very distinctive. :D

I think the whole concept of music is fascinating. The differences in what people like and what they prefer. For example, I liked Warren Zevon. His song, "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" appeals to me. But I bet most of you have never even heard of him. Bob Seger is another favorite of mine because he is my father's very favorite.

Every Halloween the local stations tend to play "Werewolves of London" a fair bit. That said "Lawyers, Guns, and Money" could have served as the music for the debacle of the Matsudaira meeting... actually it could serve as the music for a lot of CP stuff if a Corpo is involved 🤣

Re: The Grand Illusion - An OOC Thread

I was gambling in Havana. I took a little risk. Send Lawyers, guns, and money. Dad get me out of this.

Or how about...

When they asked him who is responsible for the death of Duk Koo Kim, he said, somebody should have stopped the fight! They told me, it was him!
So hurry home early Hurry on home
Boom Boom Mancini's fighting Bobby Chaconne

Or perhaps my very favorite...

His comrades fought beside him
Van Owen done the rest
But of all the Thompson gunners
Roland was the best
So the CIA decided
They wanted Roland dead
That sonovabitch Van Owen blew off Roland's head

Roland searched the continent for the man who done him in
He found him in Mombasa in a barroom drinking gin
Roland aimed his Thompson gun. He couldn't say a word
He blew Van Owen's body, from there to Johannesburg
The eternal Thompson gunner, still wandering through the night
Even 50 years later, he still keeps up the fight
In Ireland, in Lebanon, Palestine, and Berkeley...
Patty Hearst
Heard the burst
Of Roland's Thompson gun
And bought it

Zevon's music was very political. He used it to tell stories and commentate on the events at the time.

Here we go!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsYt5loVzeU

I'm very well acquainted with the seven deadly sins
I keep a busy schedule trying to fit them in
I'm proud to be a glutton and I don't have time for sloth
I'm greedy and I'm angry and I don't care who I cross
I'm Mr. Bad Example, intruder in the dirt
I'm Mr. Bad Example, take a look at me
I'll live to be a hundred and go down in history
Of course I went to law school and got a law degree
Counselled all my clients to plead insanity
I'm thinking of retiring from all my dirty deals
I'll see you in the next life
Wake me up for meals.

:D

And check out Gale with a Poor, Poor, Pitiful me (these young girls won't let me be) call out.

So I guess some of us do know who he is. I stand corrected. I got to see him in concert before he died. I was too young to get into the bar where he was playing but my pops took me anyway. And the doorman didn't want to let me in and didn't believe me that I was there for the music. But I started naming off songs and shittily singing lyrics so I got in and had to wear a big, green bracelet on my wrist with black magic marker on the back of my hand. I drank coke all night but was in front of the stage. I must have been about 16 or so. Time of my life. Ironically the only "concert" I ever went to with my father. But Second played everything I knew. Or rather, I knew everything he played. It was good times.

OMG, a personal favorite of mine.

Although it would probably get me in big trouble with the authorities, I think it would be a great hit at a junior high talent show.
