The land of Lizian

Lizian

The Ten regions
Ahiban

A big gulf in he Northeast. It is constituted by all of the coastal line and the hundreds of Islands on the inner sea. Most of its towns are Coastal. Ahiban is home to the main site of The School of Water which is established in the city of Atharum enjoying the benefits of of the tropical and temperate climate. In theory the Kyosho of the Water school rules in the region, but the hundreds of islands enjoy a high degree of autonomy and the colder northern cities form what is more accurately described as a country. Some islands in the north are the home of immigrants from the western continent.
It borders in the north with the frozen Yidsha, in the east with Mithan and in the south with Khaylos and Huran.

Asthar

A small forested area in the south, it's natural limits being the cordillera of Lei-Mayard in the north and the dense forest of Yauh on the east. Asthar is a prosperous commercial region as it is the natural pass of merchants from Kohya and Yauh to Khayros. The school of the Winds resides on this region. Asthar is ruled by a coalition of patriarchs of which the Kyosho of the Wind school is only one.

It borders on the northwest with Huran, on the north with Khayros, on the northwest with Chirahud, on the west with Kohya and in the southeast with Yauh.

Chirahud
A very mountainous region, located on the Lei-Mayard cordillera on it's entirety,  it features lots of mining towns and some city-states, one of the most important being Sakuneeyam which has a huge library with magic and astrology records and is the site of the School of the sky. Every year a huge congress of Henkabis is organized in the place.

It is limited in the west by Khayros, the east by Mee-Xal, the south by Astahr and the North by Mithan.

Huran

The most western region, and one of contrasts, while it has some ports with a relative commercial importance, it's most salient feature is it's arid steppes and it's volcanoes, the inland of Huran is very adverse to human life and it inhabited by some fierce predators, rumor claims that red dragons still live and prosper in there. The inland is mostly devoid of permanent settlements except for the main home of the School of Fire which is hidden in the south in the Lei-Mayard cordillera. The coastal towns and cities are ruled by guilds of merchants.
It borders in the north with Ahiban, in the East with Khayros, in the Southeast with Asthar and the south with Kohya

Khayros

The spiritual center of the continent, Khayros is partially encircled by the Lei-Mayard cordillera in the south and east, which gives out to canyons, mountains and dangerous ravines. It has a dry climate with long days and short nights. The north plains of Khayros are rich cropping fields that benefit from the tropical rains. On some part of Khayros lays the mount Summ which is the most sacred place, being not only the residence of the Avealem messenger of the gods, but also where the relics of the Mother and Father gods rest. The exact location of the Mount Summ is a well kept secret in order to protect the Avealem, only the Lioky -an order of messengers that come and go from Khayros- know it for sure. Khayros is also the origin place of the Mashiroi, a strongly ritualized and devout sect characterized by their habit of hiding their faces, even in death. Most Lioky are also Mashiroi.

Kohya
Located in the southwest of Lizia, Kohya is a relatively minor and isolated area. The port cities in the north enjoy a certain degree of prosperity from trade with ports and Huran and Ahiban, exchange of goods with Asthar and Yauh, and the boon from the tropical climate. The southern areas of the region are mostly virgin lands with few small villages scattered around, some renegades, thieves and outlaws have their hideouts on Kohya taking advantage of the proximity with Yauh.

It is separated from Huran by the Lei-Mayard mountains in the north, it borders with Asthar and Yauh on the East.

Mithan
The starless country, Mithan is located on the north of of Lizian, it is covered by dense forests and its climate is very cold at winter, except on the southeast were it is mostly a wasteland since the mountains that separate it from Mee-Xal block most of the incoming rain. It is composed by many small states that keep on fracturing as leadership there is very unstable. Large chunks of land on Mithan are currently inhabited by aberrations and monsters that have displaced most of the population. Mithan is home of the School of Darkness, and was formerly ruled by the great council of henkabis, but they now control only a small portion of it.

Mee-Xal
Located on the eastern Coast of Lizian, Mee-Xal is known as the main battlefield on the holy wars, and the first line of defense against the forces of the Dark lord that come across the ocean from the eastern continent. The school of Light is located in this region, but so are off-shots of the other six schools. The region is Ruled by the Kyosho of the Light along with representatives of the other schools.

Military industry is spread all over the region which also produces most of it's supplies locally, making too little actual trade, most of it is done with ports on the Yauh region as travel by land is very difficult thanks to the Lei-Mayard muntains all over the west and the very active volcanic areas that border with Yauh.

Yauh
The jewel from the south, the most prosperous region of the south, it not only enjoys good temperate climate, with abundant rains and some tropical areas, many trades and crafts are very developed in Yauh. This region is the only one where shikhes do most of the law enforcement, the Kyosho of the Forest School not only has full control of the region, but also rules on an almost autocratic fashion. somehting easilly explainable since Yauh is very vulnerable during the holy wars, being the only other region with ports on the east coast and lacking the natural protection of the mountains.
It borders with Kohya in the southwest, Asthar on the Northwest, Chirahud on the norht and Meexhal on the Northeast.

Yidsha

The most northern region of the world. It is covered in Ice during most of the year. Most of it's inhabitants are nomadic hunters, and as such it lacks a true government. So far only a small off-shot of the water school lives in there.
It borders with Ahiban and Mithan on the south

The people of Lizian

Lizian is a mostly human land. Aasimars and Half-elves live freely among them as a sole culture.

Dwarves
They live on the mountains of Chirahud, most of them on Dwarven only settlements. Few ever leave the mountains.

Elves
They are native to the Western continent, the only elves known to Lizian live on the northern islands of Ahiban and a few can be found as north as Yidsha. All of them are immigrants from overseas.

Halflings
They live on the Archipelagos of Ahiban. The very few who travel to the continent have an easy time fitting among and are thought by people as "pigmies" the casual onlooker easily confuses them with gnomes who they are more familiar with

Gnomes
They are found all over the Lei-Mayard cordillera scattered in towns while they don't usually leave that area, they are one of the few groups that make travel across those mountains, as a result people is very familiar with or them.

Orcs, Drows, Goblins and others
They come from the Eastern continent, people has grown to fear them, since most of the forces of the Dark Lord during the holy wars is formed by them. They stick in the crowd.

The Shikhes
The people of this land is watched and protected by a group of elite warriors known as Shikhes, their number and importance varies by region, while they may be limited to just a few representatives of a school on some regions they are even full on governors and highly visible on others. There are seven schools of shikhes and they are ranked on circles from the humble shikhes of the third circle to the powerful masters of the first circle.

The shikhes are divided on seven schools, each one of them ruled by a Kyosho, a shikhe of the second circle who keeps the secrets and teaches the next generation. on many regions the Kyosho of the resident school is also a figure of high political power. The seven schools (and a sumamry of their teachings) are:

Air.- Life is ephemeral and in constant flux. Accept and embrace change, don't work to preserve or stall. Air shikhes are more likely to destroy in order to transform than protect current order or save a current life.
Darkness.- Your dark side is as part of you as the rest. Don't deny nor fight pain and fear, embrace them. Darkness shikhes aren't above using underhanded methods like backstabbing, lies, poison or double crossing.
Fire.- Be brave, don't relent. Fight to protect the happiness of the people.
Forest.- There is life and death, while nature is cruel and merciless your duty is to protect the weak and the defenseless.
Light.- Chaos is a cancer that must be stopped at all costs. Be disciplined and aim for enlightenment.
Sky.- Life is void and meaningless, only truth and justice are eternal.
Water.- Without a future present life is meaningless, strive to protect the future.

On magic
Wizards and Druids are known by the people as Henkabis and they know magic as Henka. Doing any of the following is very frowned upon, as such they are known as the three sins of magic:

         Creating matter out of nothing
Transforming the nature of an item or being
Giving life back to something death

Any of those sins is also known as a "Fundamental transmutation"

On Gods
Despite acknowledging the existence of multiple deities, most clerics and priest worship the Mother and Father, and gain power from them not by spreading the word of them, but rather by taking vows of personal sacrifice, the smallest transgression of those is grounds for losing their favor. On the other hand clerics of the dark Lord are more like traditional evil clerics. If you want to worship another god you can, you'll just have a little harder time finding someone to atone with.
