What is the default gear that we have?  Riggins is already carrying his limit with just the Ratling gear.

The real by the book reading of the carrying capacity rules are to ignore them.

That's something I wanted to hash out with you all before we got started.

The regiment will have the standard fare of Flak vest, Lascarbine, pack and kit, magnoculars and Vox Caster, but is primarily a fire-support force meant to stay put.  I'm not going to bother with carrying capacity on a one-shot, and you are able to leave most of your kit on the ground nearby, anyway.

We can either give you three a Hydra Flak Tank to share while your comrades man a defensive line of Sabre Batteries, or alternatively you can man the Sabre Batteries while calling in occasional fire support from your comrades in a Basilisk/Mortar pit nearby.

For other gear, you will have a Survival Suit (to endure the frozen surface of the planet), and Preysense Goggles (to let you see the heat signature of your foes against the darkness).  That accounts for 23/36 points, so there are 13 more to assign.  Here's a few options...
  1. Substitute a M36 Lasgun or Accatran Heavy Laspistol for your lascarbine (5pts) and add a Respirator (8 points)
  2. Add a Handheld Targeter (10pts) and a Chrono (2pts)
  3. Upgrade your Survival Suits to Best quality (10pts) and add an Entrenching tool (3pts)

What would you guys prefer?

What does Best quality add to the survival suit?

Will the respirator matter they tend to either be required or not needed at all. If they are required they should be mission assignment gear.

I should have a heavy weapon but even then the M36 upgrade is nice.

Happy new year everyone!

Regarding gear, Riggins I feel would be out scouting and calling down heavy fire perhaps, which could be done with either major upgrade (the tank or the nearby mortar/basilisk).  He's going to use the Long Las regardless of the weapons, so whichever personal weapon upgrade you like is fine.  Option 2 does look good too.

I'd say though number 3 (Best Quality Suit and entrenching tool) kind of gives the idea that we'd be posted there for the long haul, which I think goes well, concept wise.  I like 3.  But if people want a Las weapon upgrade I'll go with that.

Changing my vote for the Chrono and targetter, now that I see what bonus that gives.

Then as a compromise, we'll set the gear to include the following...
  • Lascarbine => Lasgun upgrade
  • One Handheld Targeter per squad
  • One 9-70 entrenching tool, for shoveling snow.

I'm getting the write-up of the first mission ready, so we should be ready to start by Monday.  Lemme know if you need any help with character Creation stuff!

No new adds, yet.  I think three is all we got.

Still waiting for everyone to finish filling out character sheets before we get into the action so I can scale the threats appropriately, to give you guys an equal opportunity to shine.  However, if you just wanna do some RP while we wait for that I can open up the first thread.   Do you all feel ready,  or would you like some more time to fill everything out?

Happy late New Year all!  I was away from home for most of the holiday weekend so am a bit behind on my character details.  I will be able to spend quite a bit of time on it tomorrow afternoon after work however.

That is a big kit...that Riggins will be leaving at the platform.

For Riggins' comrade, he has Quin, who is a bit Green, but is a very competent...assistant cook.

Like I said the straight rules in the book is to ignore carrying capacity. 90% of the standard kit doesn't even have weight. knives weight the same as a roman gladius. missile launchers weigh more more than a modern rpg with my alienware tower duct taped to it.

I once calculated the weight of all the standard kit stuff based on real world numbers and it would take a 4 in S and T bonus to carry everything no specialist stuff added.

In reply to Laine Mackinjohn (msg # 21):

That is correct,  except that there is 1 Sabre Defense Platform per PC.

And yes, you can ignore the weight of your Regimental Standard Kit :)

What is the loadout on those? There are 4 completely unbalanced option.

So is this mostly going to be a turkey shoot?

Mostly.  The main objective is to protect the tithe convoy so most of the game is going to be holding off the waves of ork raiders, followed by frantic repair and resupply.  There will be longer lulls for interaction with allies and administration, as well as strategic control of terrain, but most of it is (as you said) a turkey shoot.
