I've had a large influx of RTJ's and have at this time closed submissions to the game. For those of you that have applied, I will be working to contact each of you in the coming days. If it takes some time to get to you please don't feel that you have been overlooked.

Awesome.  Guess I'm gonna have a temporary portrait 'till I get the one I want submitted :D

Name is pending, but I'll have it this afternoon. It's one of the last things I actually *DO* getting an idea together, but I feel like I have a strong-enough concept ready that I'm good to go.

Nice to meet you all, everyone. I'll be playing our High Elven Artificer (Artillerist).

Character sheets are open and everyone should be able to edit them. Let me know if your not able to. I also uploaded a sheet that I like, though your free to use one of your choice.

I'll also be posting some House rules in the next few days. These are combat related and down time related rules as of now.

The Boar Hat (OOC)

So, yeah, as an artificer, I'm pretty curious if we're using some of the rules in place in Xanathar's Guide (Specifically the perks for tool specialties, and the expanded downtime rules, which do include some thoughts on actually making magic items.)

For the curious, so far, I'm probably looking at a hybrid supporter-blaster sort of action role. I'm going to have a familiar (though, per current chatter with GM, it's going to be a construct, so it won't be able to 'fit in' as an animal as well as your regular familiar) (Find Familiar by way of Magic Initiate, because the Artificer Homonuclus is terrible for any of the subclasses that use their bonus action constantly) and will have Guidance, Thorn Whip, Mending, Mind Sliver, Minor Illusion, and my All-Purpose Tool can snag a cantrip from any class once per day, treated as an Artificier Cantrip (for 8 hours)

Also considering the Observant feat, to really step up my perception and investigation.

Speaking of skills, in the interest of sharing, I'll be proficient in Arcana, History, Perception, Investigation, and Insight.  Very much leaning into the intellectual concept here.

Hello all!

I will be playing Ve (short for Vehemence) your local cleric of the Silver Pillar. I created Ve using the mechanics for a Twilight Cleric. Ve is proficient in Insight, Religion, Medicine, and Persuasion and speaks Common, Celestial, Infernal, and Elvish.

Due to an earlier "toe-dip" into rift-beast hunting, I used the beginning feat to allow her to have the Warcaster feat.

I think Ve should be a reasonable job of keeping everyone "up" but do not be afraid to save 300 gp in diamonds for the material components for the Revivify spell.

It's kind of embarrassing how bad I am at concocting names.

High Elf Artillerist Artificier with blonde hair, green eyes, a very intellectual and scholarly sort of attitude but also the drive to really put all that knowledge to practical use. I've managed to name her familiar, her family, and even her essence cannon, but I can't settle on her name. XD...

The Boar Hat (OOC)

Also a worthy question.

As of right now, I'm thinking I will be taking Magic Initiate and Observant to round out my Intelligence to 18, with plans to bump Int to 20 at level 8, and then 12/16/19  I'm thinking I'll take whichever of the feats from this list seem appealing to me at the time:

Resilient (Wisdom), Skill Expert (Acrobatics, Athletics, or Persuasion?), Lucky, Spell Sniper, Warcaster (I want to be at range generally, though), Fighting Initiate (can give some AC), Elemental Adept: Fire

Heads up, I'll be at my sister's most of today (today being'after I get up, because it's 3 AM currently :D)

Also, @ our Twilight Cleric (Such a cool class, and I love that art too) - you wanting to take Guidance to drop the blessing of the gods? I was going to grab it with the flavor of being all smart and calculating some choice advice to offer, but there's room to collaborate (or just do whatever and we can use our 'trade out cantrips on level ups' if we're stepping on toes :D hehe. Should be fine.

Amarantha's another noble, who moonlights as a mysterious and reckless masked heroine known as  the Moonblade.

She's a surprisingly dexterous Warlock who fights with a pact rapier and Armor of Shadows. She's almost always running Mask of Many Faces, either as a disguise... or simply to wear a really fancy outfit :)

Her free feat is Resilient (Dexterity).

Rheanna West is a half-elven librarian who had to leave her job due to Unfortunate Circumstances and became a fighter (battlemaster).

I'm still working on the details, but her skills will probably be pretty scholarly. I'm not yet sure about the feat.

(Can anyone with more experience with 5e tell me if Defensive Duelist is as good as it sounds? Because it sounds really good to me. But I also want to take Martial Adept for the extra maneuvers.)

Hello all. Crazy oldman Druid here. I think I can help our Cleric with some of the great Druid healing spells like goodberry etc perhaps we can even program the robo-familiar to deliver them?

XD

Will be using wildshapes to help soak up damage but pretty easy to hit at this stage (but better that attack go to a wildshape than a PC).

I settled on the Warcaster feat (to help Dagda maintain concentration on spells) for his Variant Human fear and Healer as the Free Campaign feat. Healer allows Dagda to expend a use of the healing kit (of 10) and heal 1d6+4(+an addition 5 for character level).

Dagda focused on Animal Handling, Athletics, Medicine, Nature and Survival.

I'm playing a Hithari barbarian inspired by classic swords and sorcery cliches, but hopefully with a bit of a twist.

I'm new to pbp, 5e, and first time NOT gm'ing! So feel to yell at me for doing it wrong, lol.

Looking forward to it!

Halgor the Hithari is geared towards brawling and grappling, and his Enchanted Buckler is something of a local legend.

More notable though, in Halgor's estimation anyway, is his great skill at campfire cooking, and he will gladly handle the group's cooking in the field, if no one objects.

Oh. Interesting :D

At the very least, we're both in the academic fields so we may have some shared footing that way.
I'm imagining Claira as more of a sort of 'academy student' who has been taken under the wing of a skilled, possibly indiana jones style professor who's imparted the passion of field work (though she doesn't have a lot of experience yet), and her particular skillset and interest is ancient technology that she's been able to recover and reactivate and operate. (Her artifice is a mix of ancient technology recovered and current tech developed, often mixing principles between the two) Still waiting for some feedback on if that actually has its own language associated with it, which she'll grab via background if needed.

Also, I'm still yet to finalize a lot of things like all the tool proficiencies she has (via Tasha's, she's actually trading a lot of elven weapon proficiency for that sort of thing...)

Also, hey, Halgor :D

If you aren't using your reaction for anything else, go for it. Shield is a great spell, in a pinch. Magic initiate still a great feat.

Vee, I think that's a great idea. I love the idea of using the guidance cantrip that way.

I'm still thinking about my infusion options. I definitely am taking the bag of holding, but I'm not sure about the other options available at this level. I will probably be turning some of these into higher-level infusions as I level up with the ability to trade them out when I level. It is worth noting that I can give infused items to other people and they can attune them if they require Attunement and use them like normal magic items. Still if we're using costs as depicted in the expanded background activities in xanathar's guide it won't be too expensive to make common and uncommon magic items especially once I reach level 10.

Re: The Boar Hat (OOC)

Wow, I'm torn on a cantrip selection.

Race: Mending
Magic Initiate: Mind Sliver, ?????
Class: Thorn Whip, Guidance
All-Purpose Tool: 1 cantrip of any class for 8 hours/day.
Trinket: My random trinket gave me Create Bonfire as an Artificer Spell. Neat

My second magic initiate spell was initially going to be minor illusion, but I'm now finding myself considering Control Flame, Toll the Dead, or Shocking Grasp for various reasons. I've got spells among my cantrips that hit AC, Dexterity Save, and Intelligence Save. Control Flame adds some neat functionality and flavor, but it only works with nonmagical fire, such as that spawned by bonfire, not bonfire itself :D  Still, it could be quite good (and using it to put out fires makes sense for a tinkerer, too...)  Toll the Dead offers a high damage Wisdom Save cantrip.  Shocking Grasp gets advantage vs metal-armored targets and can be delivered via her familiar, and broadens her damage types.

Minor Illusion is also *really* good, though. but she's neither sneaky or socially adept enough to make full use of it, I think. input welcome.

As the one who designed it, if the 'table coding' is a pain, there's no reason you have to use the table format, as long as it's got the essential info there. I only use trackers like that because editing the sheet constantly is annoying (and sometimes a recipe for a mistake)

Thanks for the tracker! I was wondering how we would handle character stats during combat.

Should we each add a tracker to our cast page, or should we have a separate thread where we keep the trackers for everyone? Meaning everyone who wants to use them, of course.

Also, a question about the house rules -- under "Level Advancement", it says we start with 2,250 XP. Just to make sure I understand it correctly: is that 2,250 XP in addition to the 6,500 for 5th level? Also, it says that's half the XP for our level, but in that case shouldn't it be 3,250?

Re: The Boar Hat (OOC)

My understanding is that the GM is somehow using experience for item crafting, though I do not have the details. So far, I've been hoping/expecting to use the Xanathar's guidelines for that, though I know the GM has something in mind for it. I'm all for milestone leveling and not having to fuss with XP at all, but yeah. As for starting knowing each other...

I could see Claira starting with awareness of the following PCs, potentially:

Lady Amarantha is (in one identity) a fellow noble, and (in the other), a figure that I think Claira would find intriguing, depending on what is known about the masked heroine. She does have great Perception and Investigation (passive and otherwise), and it's possible she knows they're one in the same if you're game for that...  If not, I'd still love for her to know you potentially, in one way or another.

Rheanna - As an academic of sorts, I think some interaction is completely viable :D I don't know the details, and would be willing to take ideas for such a thing. It seems like she's maybe facing more difficulties or problems, or has some other main goal than academic pursuits, so we could get into ideas regarding that.

Vehemance - I don't know a ton specifically about Vee, but I just in general love the concept and wouldn't mind tinkering up some past encounter~!

=====
I think we've all received a separate invitation to come and  hear out Lord Corvan about what he wants to hire us for.

Re: The Boar Hat (OOC)

To answer Questions.

Actual Level advancement will be done using Milestone. The experience you receive will be strictly for magical item creation. A process that is different for each person and each item. Thus if you wish to make something you'll be working with me. This mean anyone can make magical items not just the magic users. And yes it should be 3,250 for the exp you start with.

Writing. I'm mostly a fan of 3rd person present tense. Though I'm not super strict on  how well its done. Just do your best. We are here to have fun.

Most of you will have little to no knowledge of each other. Those that do will most likely just be a passing knowledge and nothing too in depth.

Amos, are you sure about what you posted in the IC thread?

I thought Astriale was the floating island that we were on right now. The Shattered Island sounded to me like a different one. But maybe I've got it mixed up.

Re: The Boar Hat (OOC)

If he is, that makes two of us. :-) I think I misread both the setting information thread and your post.

Astriale was the name of the moon that was destroyed, so it makes sense that it's now the common name for all of its fragments together. For some reason I assumed it was just the name of our current fragment, but I think that one simply doesn't have a name yet (that we know of).

Is that right, or am I even more confused than I thought, GM?

Te world that you find your self in is named Astriale. Most of the floating islands do not have names. Your currently in The City of Etheris. Pretty much the largest city in the world. Most large cities have a population of around 500 thousand. The City of Etheris has a population of 1.5 million. In truth The City of Etheris is more like three cities, with each tier acting almost as separate cities in and of them selves.

Wow. Let me summarize that I believe I understand.
1) The world is called Astriale.
2) There are floating islands.
3) The City of Etheris is on one of the floating island. Population of 1.5 million.
4) It sounds like the Shattered Isle is another floating island.

Question
A) Are there any land mass that is not floating?
B) Are there any bodies of water that is not floating? (this question is not relevant if the answer to Question A is no.)

Interesting world :)

Technically yes. The world its self is divided into three plains. Astriale, Etheros, and Undarro. While all part of the same world, they are separated by plainer barriers. Thus travel between them is not a simple matter. Astriale would be the floating islands surrounded by sky. Ethros would be more akin to a normal world with oceans and land masses. And Undarro would be the underdark.

I've updated this in the setting Info section.

quote:
B) Are there any bodies of water that is not floating? (this question is not relevant if the answer to Question A is no.)

There are islands that are made up mostly of water. Most water tends to be in the form of lakes and such on islands. There are no formal oceans or seas in Astriale. Unless one of course counts the endless sky as an ocean.

Sorry, Amos, I would give you inspiration, but I'm on the other side of the building right now.

And I agree with Sin, maybe we should use the guards as an excuse to give up and return to the mansion. If everyone was here I'd say let's keep trying, but with only half the group being able to participate, I think it's taking too long.

Hello all-Happy Easter for those who celebrate that holiday.

I have a small little game I am starting. I have one player thus far. The game is set in a new world which uses all the canon deities. The premise is that a domain of dread is forming around a small town and its community.

I am hoping that this will lead to a caravan type adventure where heroes protect townsfolk as they try to stay alive long enough to understand what is going on and to avoid the dread otherworldly domains.
