Down by the river were three goblins; two were turned to the river, drinking or filling containers, while the third stood watch.  When it caught sight of them it gabbled to its comrades.

Kasumi moved up to one of the goblins and in one swift motion drew her sword and slashed at one of the goblins with no wasted motion.

The goblin fell to the ground, a deep cut in its side, but was not quite dead.  It cursed at Kasumi and threw a sharpened stick at her, but it fell short. [16]

The scout goblin pulled out a crude bow and fired it at Jiro, but the arrow flew wide. [17]

The third goblin lowered its head and charged at Jiro, waving a crude sword, but the attack bounced harmlessly off. [13]

Heavy Weapons (Tetsubo) Hida Jiro rolled 2,8,4,9,5,12 using d10,d10,d10,d10,d10,d10, rerolling max, rerolling ones, unique dice ((2,8,4,{1}9,5,(10+2)12)).

Attack total 29.

Probably a hit; a mere 17 wounds however.  Reduces their Resistance by 2, too.


Jiro gave the one nearest to him a backhanded swipe with his Tetsubo!

The goblin was thrown across the clearing, landing with a sickening thud, but still appeared to be moving.

Kasumi slashed at the one she had already wounded.

Her stroke bisected the goblin, its halves falling to the ground and spurting black blood.

The archer turned its bow on her, but the arrow went wide again. [15]

The goblin Jiro had thrown staggered to its feet and drunkenly charged him again, but misjudged his location and flung itself on the ground three feet away. [15]

In a display of contempt for the wounded one, Jiro charged the archer.  He hadn't expected to get married like this; he was quite put out that a goblin would attempt to puncture his wife.

((4,7,{1}2,2,3,9)) is a 20; damage is ((9,5,2,1,1,6,5,3)) or 19.

The goblin was slammed into the ground; its armor might have protected it from another goblin's weapon, but the weight of the tetsubo rendered it irrelevant.

Kasumi moved up to the one that Jiro had wounded first and put it out of its misery.

The goblin's head separated from its body and rolled toward the river.

"Grab that and the other two and bring them back," Ishiyo's voice came from behind. "Seventeen more and we can make you a proper Crab."

"A fine beginning!" said Jiro, helping collect the heads.  He hoped that this would ease Kasumi's transition; other members of his family were, doubtlessly, looking down on her.

"Thank you, Ishiyo-san," Kasumi said with a polite bow.

"Jiro, the commander said someone needed to talk to you," Ishiyo said. "Sounds important."

"What?  About what, I wonder?" said Jiro, heading off in that direction.

"What happens now?" Kasumi asked.

"Well, first blood in the Shadowlands usually gets a celebration at the barracks," Ishiyo said. "Don't know if it would be your thing so much--it gets pretty rowdy."

"Far be it from me to deny tradition," Kasumi said.

"Great!" Ishiyo said. "We'll get the sake."

Kasmui waited.

"Not out here," she added, "back in the barracks."

"Ah, silly me," Kasumi said and headed there.
