"We're being sent to Roko Owari to investigate the fate of some investigators," said Jiro.  "The intent is clearly that we be gone or some time dealing with this."

"Ah. I am ready to go as my belongs are in storage, still packed," Kasumi said. "Last night is a bit hazy for me. I don't remember much once the drinking started."

"You became very affectionate," said Jiro.  "And confessed to great fondness for me in a rather... public manner.  Also, what do you know about Ryoko Owari?  I mostly only know rumor."

Kasumi din't hear the last bit and shot up and down with a deep seated bow.

"I am very sorry for my improper behaviour."

"It's all right," said Jiro, cheerfully.  "You were drunk!  And properly drunk, for it was a celebration that calls for it...

"...how do you feel about investigating missing clan members?"

Sitting up properly now.

"I would have no problems with that. If that is what we were ordered to do, there is no helping it."

"It is, yes," said Jiro.  "...in the honesty a husband owes his wife, I will tell you that there are reasons beyond the obvious, but they must not be spoken of."

"You need not to," Kasumi. "I will do my duty as expected."

"Yes, I know you will," said Jiro.  "...suffice it to say, at least, that it is clearly expected that we will be away for some time.  I hope we can find quarters you'll find comfortable.  Probably better than the barracks, though."

"I just need something. What is the proper Crab cure for a headache and nausea?" Kasumi asked.

"Tea, honey and sometimes more sake," said Jiro.  "But if the Crane knows more than us in this regard, don't let me stop you."

"I-I don't. I don't handle sake very well and have rarely had it," Kasumi said, the embarrassment obvious on her face.

"Let's try the tea and honey," said Jiro.  "It's said that some Hida go into battle with hangovers knowing that the pain of wounds can be no worse than what they face."

"Thank you, Jiro," Kasumi said.

Jiro brought her tea.

Kasumi set out to get her things ready.

Someone had left a pack of traveling supplies by the door, including two pairs of good walking tabi.

"That was considerate of someone," Kasumi said.

"Indeed," said Jiro.  "Well.  We have a lot of walking to do, so I suppose that we should start."

It wasn't like they'd be given horses, after all.

"We don't have a cart and horses?" Kasumi asked, looking around.

Jiro checked.  It would be better... but it was quite possible that they'd decided to give the newlyweds a rather slow journey.

"We don't have a cart we can spare for you," Tamenari said, "but there's a Yasuki peddler who travels the road north with an oxcart.  I'll write a letter requesting his assistance."

"All right," said Jiro.  "We must do as we must."

He estimated how far he could carry Kasumi if he had to-- far enough, at least, to deal with some bad terrain or mud puddles.

"I suppose we should get walking then," Kasumi said.

They set out on the road.  It was a pleasant spring day, so the trip wasn't onerous so far.
