Character Creation Guidelines

Character Creation is conducted using the standard Priority system found on SR5 pg 65.  The other options have been discussed and are not permitted.

Only standard meta-human races and variant types are permitted.  This means no vampires, artificial intelligences, free spirits, or the like will be entertained.

Please provide explicit notes for points/karma allocation for each step, along with any necessary explanations, background, or other relevant details.  Point allocation should be as realistic and "well rounded" as possible to reflect a fully developed person.

1: Declare a concept & receive approval to build the character.

Approval will result in the creation of a private character creation thread to provide discrete space to work on the character.  You will receive a PM at this point alerting you to the creation of your character thread.  After this you should edit the first post and start your character creation there.

We will discuss and approve concepts individually based on a variety of factors and no concept is absolutely guaranteed approval.  We do however also believe that you are entitled to feedback and clear reasons regarding any denial, with the chance to make alterations or pitch something different instead.

When your character thread is created it will contain three placeholder posts in your name intended to hold in order your character sheet, background material, and gear/equipment list.  Edit this material into the appropriate post when you have a final version for review.

Anything taken/purchased for the character aside from core attributes/skills needs to have a reference provided (book and page) for ease of review.  Shadowrun is a very deep system, and while we like to think we are knowledgeable everyone has their limits and this will speed up the review and approval process significantly.

2: Character Background

One to two paragraphs for each of the following topics.  More is welcome if needed in any category with a feasible use cap at somewhere around five paragraphs to a category.  If in doubt, feel free to ask and show your current version for feedback.

quote:
- Cultural/Ethnic Background.

- Geographic/Economic Origin.

- Immediate Family/Relatives & their Relationships with them.

- How did the race/metatype of the character affect their development/lives?

- Where & How did the character learn their Active Skills?

- Where & How did the character learn their Knowledge Skills?

- Where & How did the character learn their Languages?

- Overall Personality in general terms.

- Motivations & Desires in general terms.

- Goals, In More Quantifiable Terms.

- Greatest Strength & Weakness

- Describe the characters Highest Personal Value, The Abstract Thing That Is Most Important To Them.

- What is your characters moral code/sense of ethics?

- Describe your characters significant personal beliefs, in terms of politics and/or religion, if any.

- Any established and still viable Loyalties?

- How does the character see Magic?  Keep this in line with their degree of knowledge and/or experience with it.

- How does the character see the Matrix, and especially Technomancers and the stranger aspects of Matrix happenings?

- What are your characters personal likes and dislikes?

- The characters Favorite and Least Favorite Things.

- Typical Relationships & Interactions w/ Other People

- Physical Appearance & Any Distinguishing Features

- Mode of Dress & Personal Style

- Married?  Single?  Dating?  Looking For Someone?  Strictly Pay To Play?

- Describe three non-Contact people that are especially important to the character & why.

- Motivation To Be A Shadowrunner

- How Did the character become a Shadowrunner?

- Biggest Mentor & Current Relationship

- Biggest Mentor as a Shadowrunner & Current Relationship

- How does the character view their role as a Shadowrunner?

- How does the character believe a Shadowrunning Team is "supposed" to work/operate?

<u>- How does the character handle the harsh realities of living on the wrong side of the law?

- Perceptions Regarding Other Shadowrunners?

- Perceptions Regarding Megacorps?

- Perceptions Regarding Organized Crime & Gangs?

- Where does your character live?

- Where & How did your character acquire their starting gear, especially items of particular note/value?

- General Additional Background (Try to fill in any perceived gaps here)

3: Declare Priority Category Allocations.

State which Priority Code is assigned to each category, and write a paragraph describing how these assignments tie into and reflect your concept, in particular your A and B priorities.

4: Provide a list of intended Qualities

List both Positive & Negative Qualities with at least a paragraph of description/background for each describing the impact and/or significance of this trait on the character.

- Negative Qualities should affect your life in tangible ways to be worth extra points.  For example an Adept who never intends to take cyberware should not properly be deriving benefit from Ware Intolerance.

5: Provide a draft build of your character sheet and gear list.

Use the character sheet template provided.

Remember to show your point allocations/totals and karma expenditure notes.  This can be in a follow-on post in your character thread for ease of review.

If you want a piece of gear that you might not otherwise be able to get (its availability is higher than what you might otherwise be able to get for example), reach out and we can talk about getting you that hot piece of gear.  For a price.
